AIBU to think I will never get a refill for my (£620) pen?

I have a few pens that I use, one of my favourite being my Chopard Brescia. The pen still sells on Chopard's website, but I am finding it hard to source refills for it.

www.chopard.com/en-gb/rollerball-pen/95013-0439.html

I'm in a bit of a panic now as I installed my last cartridge for it today. It writes lovely, but worried as have ran out of refills for it now. I normally use a Parker Duofold or Cross Townsend for day-to-day use, and my Brescia normally only comes out when signing important things (quite sentimental!).

Does anyone have ideas as to where I can source refills for the Brescia? I can't seem to see them for sale on Chopard's own website, and Selfridges didn't have any in stock when I visited recently.

You’re a brave, brave woman, @MelanieD29 . Coming onto AIBU to reveal you have multiple pens costing north of £600 a pop. Grin

Ever entered the lion’s enclosure at the local zoo?

To be fair on the lions they would likely be kinder to op 😁

Alright, that was uncalled for haha! I only scribbled the date to show how the pen writes - I write better normally. Although that said, am typing more and more these days. Maybe that's why!

Not uncalled for if it’s the truth!

mumda · 09/09/2024 00:24

If you can't get a refill then it's maybe the most expensive disposable pen ever?

Uniball are fab if you're looking for a new pen.

PyongyangKipperbang · 09/09/2024 00:24

Why the hate about collecting pens?!

Some people collect luxury watches. Some people collecct shoes (I have an extensive Irregular Choice collection that I have been told are "stunning" "gorgeous" "ugly as hell" and "vile"!). Handbags, cars, antiques..... some people collect stamps costing thousands which I think it aboslutely pointless personally but I dont slag them off for doing it!

The OP's thing is pens, who the hell cares?!

Glad you are sorted @MelanieD29

Any better? It's gone midnight and I didn't expect a handwriting test!

That’s not what I’m doing at all, she gave an example of writing with her £600+ pen and I said it didn’t improve it from a cheaper type.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 09/09/2024 00:34

oh gosh, I wonder what a handwriting expert would make of that.

They'd probably rather it wasn't on lined paper. Fairly even flow and nice and legible. No loops on the descender on the gs, though.

(Also, judgemental rather than judgeful. 😉)

Is this a joke 😭 if you’re going to spend hundreds on pens at least you could write nicely

Was going to, but I started my last one yesterday so have been thinking about to over the weekend and just wanted some thoughts or alternatives in case of the worst and it would be hard to get more. That's the great thing about Mumsnet in a way - lots of people here can think of things I wouldn't have. Had no idea that the cartridge name was generic. My other pens have different size cartridges.

I enjoyed your OP. To PP who say "you could just look it up" you could say that for every post on Mumsnet. I'll never have a 600 pound pen, but Mumsnet is the only place where I can give advice to a woman looking for advice about a 600 pound pen Grin

The fancy pen isn't meant to improve the handwriting, it's more to do with how it feels when you use it. It's always nicer to use a lovely, smooth pen which glides effortlessly across the paper, especially if you write a lot.

I was neither judgemental or judgeful, merely a comment.
Nor did i mention the etiquette of lined paper ' v ' plain paper

ncforcatquestion · 09/09/2024 00:45

Well they are very nice but that's just crazy

Jellybeansweets · 09/09/2024 00:48

I’ve always been intrigued by these types of pens! What are the difference between these and your regular ones? I’m very much a Muji pen person and think they write wonderfully- lines not too thick and no smudging.

Also please tell us what job you do, I think it would be a very cool one 😅 One of my friends has an assortment of expensive pens and he’s a doctor, they use them to sign documents? Is that your occupation too? I’m very intrigued-Thanks for the post OP

ncforcatquestion · 09/09/2024 00:49

I just use Unipin fineliners

How a pen worth £600 ‘feels’, I can only reply with this 😂😂😂
Sorry I live in the real world so I’m out 😂😂

I'm a mechanical pencil person but occasionally venture into fountain pens - nothing over £30, mind! Got given a LAMY safari recently, but it's so chunky compared to my favoured dinky Pentel pencil.

AIBU is not exactly known for its love of pens Grin There are some great pen sub Reddits for all your pen queries e.g.

Some people spend £5,000 + on a handbag and if handbags are your thing you would say "Oh wow, thats fabulous" If watches were your thing and your friend spent £50k on a watch, you would say the same.

Just because its not your thing, doesnt mean that it shouldnt be the OP's.

As I said above, Irregular Choice shoes are my thing. They are the Marmite of the shoe world. I will happily spend £200 on a pair that I will (maybe) wear a couple of times, because I think that they are art as much as footwear. I love owning them. I sometimes wear them of an evening just to see them looking beautiful on my feet. I am sure the Op would look at them and say "How much did they pay you to wear those?!"

At least the OP gets regular use out of her collection!

Not to detrail the thread. I once worked in a very posh area and there was a row of shops and I fell I love with a coat I saw in one of the boutiques. I spent my first month's wages on that coat and i felt amazing. I can still picture how it looked in the window of the shop.
To get back to the thread, I'd say I've spent hundreds on crap pens in pound shops over the years.

Edited for wine reason's.

Dweetfidilove · 09/09/2024 00:53

I love how people wade in with the old - OP should have thought to call the pen company first (likely closed on the weekend), and good old resourceful MNs come along with the answer.

MN remains undefeated in every way possible ☺️.

Rafting2022 · 09/09/2024 00:53

Why the need to put the price of the pen in the title in the first place?
