AIBU to think I will never get a refill for my (£620) pen?

I have a few pens that I use, one of my favourite being my Chopard Brescia. The pen still sells on Chopard's website, but I am finding it hard to source refills for it.

www.chopard.com/en-gb/rollerball-pen/95013-0439.html

I'm in a bit of a panic now as I installed my last cartridge for it today. It writes lovely, but worried as have ran out of refills for it now. I normally use a Parker Duofold or Cross Townsend for day-to-day use, and my Brescia normally only comes out when signing important things (quite sentimental!).

Does anyone have ideas as to where I can source refills for the Brescia? I can't seem to see them for sale on Chopard's own website, and Selfridges didn't have any in stock when I visited recently.

Is it not compassionate to respect the fact that others are in fact entitled to speak on things relevant to them, without always having to centre the delicate sensitivities of those actively choosing to be triggered? Especially on a forum explicitly open to those from all walks of life?

A poster ought not assume the authority to police what others can and cannot discuss.

The tricky thing is that it's the Internet... A lot of communication is lost when posting online. Words only account for 7% of what is important when communicating. Tone of voice and body language account for the extra 93%. So on that basis, when tone and body language are removed, I personally believe that yes - posters have a duty to be compassionate and sensitive with their words, if they don't have the body language or tone of voice to back it up!

I will no longer resent paying £4 in Tesco for 10 zebra Z-grips.

Decent pen they are. DH I'd always stealing one.

£4 for 10? Pffft. I get my work pens for 10 for 89p from Home Bargains. AND they've got a triangular barrel so they feel nice to hold. That's nearly SEVEN THOUSAND pens I could buy for what OP paid.

Mind you, I work in the NHS and all 7000 would still disappear within a week. 🤣

I think that people from all walks of life should be able to post on here and it provides so much value to discussions.

But PP is right here OP.

The decisions you made have impacted the response you have received and the you just haven't been very classy about it all.

Mentioning the name of the pen without the price would have been appropriate.
We all know the brand is expensive, but declaring the exact amount in the title is tacky.

It wasn't your post but the way you went about it.

I celebrate people who have beautiful things and I don't think you should be ashamed of your pens... but also remembering the situation of others and showing compassion would go a long way.

I am in pretty desperate circumstances with my finances right now and feeling beyond anxious and hopeless.

I'm not sure what my future is going to look like... but your post wouldn't have bothered me if you had approached it a bit differently.

I don’t agree. As I said earlier, my finances are poor but I don’t go on style and beauty and knock the people posting about expensive coats and handbags, which they do, often. OP posted the price maybe to emphasise how important it is to get cartridges and not get a new pen or maybe because she wanted to, but so what? It’s a choice to be jealous and bitter about it. I choose not to be. I’d love to be able to spend money on something so fancy but I doubt it will ever be the case for me unless I won the lottery. But I don’t do the lottery as it’s too frivolous.
But we have people with millions posting on Mumsnet and they’re allowed to be able ask questions too and if they feel the financial points are important then that’s up to them, not for us to tell them they can’t because we can’t afford the things they can.

wonderingwhatlifemeans · 09/09/2024 19:02

No one has mentioned them but my current faves are Toms studio pens. They come with different nibs and you can get different colour inks. They are between £40 and £80 and as a teacher I use them a lot.

Ellington pens are my new fountain pens I use when marking English books. When I am marking handwriting I have to make sure mine is pretty good!

I am not jealous or bitter.

I celebrate people who have far more than me both offline and online.

But I do think we can also operate in this life in a way that is conscious of others.

It's not saying someone can't talk about these things, but how they talk about them does matter.

We can agree to disagree on this.

We can, as I think she talked about just fine.

Why do people lose their heads on here when someone spends a lot of money on something?

And how do we know it wasn't a gift. We don't. People making assumptions. It could have been won in a raffle for all we know. Who gives a damn?

i do wonder how some people get through their day. So much seething resentment, it's staggering.

MysweetAudrina · 09/09/2024 19:53

I paid 750e for my puppy. I wish I had just bought a nice pen.

You’re of course free to act according to your own personal sense of duty, but that isn’t something anyone else needs to pay the slightest bit of attention to.

Not every conversation about a topic has to centre you, and especially not on a website that isn’t for the exclusive use of, or a ‘safe space’ for, those in financial difficulty.

You are free not to click on or engage with threads you find triggering. You don’t get to set ‘the tone’ on a message board that is open to all.

HotPotato123 · 09/09/2024 20:19

i say good for you op. I love a good pen.

ignore the pile on by those who had the opportunity to not rtt but did so anyway just to berate you.

JudgeJ · 09/09/2024 21:11

Wokeuptired · 09/09/2024 12:21

But at least the pen is better value than an oasis concert ticket, and will last longer.

And give more pleasure!

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 09/09/2024 21:16

Well, that's what you get when you buy cheap tat @MelanieD29

I wouldn't spend less than £1000 on a pen.

itsmylife7 · 09/09/2024 21:27

I'd never be judgmental of anyone's handwriting.

The price of the pen didn't need to be mentioned just the make/name would do.

It's like when boastful people mention their car by brand name.....so bloody boring and never impress me.

Cars get you from A to B who cares how expensive they are.

SweetSakura · 09/09/2024 21:31

HellnoH20 · 09/09/2024 02:12

Because it's plain ignorance, that's why

Of course all people from all walks of life are here, I didn't say there was anything wrong with that did I? Putting the price in the title screams 'look at me and all my money' and makes people click on it because it's absurd

People could Google the price anyway.

I know heaps of people with fancy pens, I don't see how it's any different from an expensive handbag or pair of heels or whatever.

In fact op has reminded me I need to stock up on refills for mine!

Exactly. I owned several eyewateringly expensive pens as a student. They were gifts from my dad who was really proud of me for overcoming some serious adversity. I still really treasure them now, as a reminder of him and also of everything I overcame.

hilariousnamehere · 09/09/2024 21:38

Probably missing the point again but do the pen fans on here know you can get rollerball pens that take fountain pen cartridges or converters so you can use any colour ink? Blew my stationery-obsessed mind when I discovered them!

Does the parker pen write like the OPs picture? It writes beautifully. A pound shop pen doesn't write like that.
The idea on this thread that poor people can't see the beauty in something made well or we shouldn't see it at all because of being poor and it might offend us is ridiculous.
Enjoy your pen OP, I certainly have enjoyed your posts, and I hope you find your refill.

I don't think the pen made the ops writing beautiful at all. The writing looked like they had to press quite hard, and the letters were cramped and tight. I would have expected something lre flowing.

I know that it's subjective, but these are nice.

SquatWeightaMinute · 09/09/2024 22:16

You can use your fancy pen to write me a big cheque if you like op .

That’s Squat with a capital S.

In all seriousness though who is anyone to judge how others spend their money. Hair extensions, Botox, handbags, spa days. People spend on what’s important to them and it sounds like OP takes great pleasure from that pen.

TofuTart · 09/09/2024 23:01

Each to their own but I couldn't pay 625 quid on a pen as it'd only get lost down the back of the sofa cushions like all the other pens 😭😁

You used a fake handwriting example to illustrate your unnecessary criticism of OPs handwriting?

Oh, right.
