AIBU to think I will never get a refill for my (£620) pen?

I have a few pens that I use, one of my favourite being my Chopard Brescia. The pen still sells on Chopard's website, but I am finding it hard to source refills for it.

www.chopard.com/en-gb/rollerball-pen/95013-0439.html

I'm in a bit of a panic now as I installed my last cartridge for it today. It writes lovely, but worried as have ran out of refills for it now. I normally use a Parker Duofold or Cross Townsend for day-to-day use, and my Brescia normally only comes out when signing important things (quite sentimental!).

Does anyone have ideas as to where I can source refills for the Brescia? I can't seem to see them for sale on Chopard's own website, and Selfridges didn't have any in stock when I visited recently.

I have less money than most people here and it doesn't bother me

KenAdams · 09/09/2024 23:23

Oooh it's bitching hour!

Stop being nasty keyboard warriors.

You used a fake handwriting example to illustrate your unnecessary criticism of OPs handwriting?

Oh, right.

What was the criticism?

I said I didn't like the writing, I thought it's not lovely.

So what, are you suggesting that people who have money shouldn't post on AIBU? As that is where you're going down this line. Or do they need to be overly sensitive with their wording just not to offend those without? Wow, I am a terrible person as I have more than one pen and have "established myself as a true collector" hahaha!!

I don’t understand spending £££ on a pen but then using GENERIC refills? Surely part of the value is what I presume to be beautiful silky ink? Otherwise any shit pen would do?

nappyvalley1992 · 10/09/2024 09:44

Maybe invest in a pack of bic rollerballs

zingally · 10/09/2024 10:43

A bit off topic, but I love the idea of having a special pen to sign important stuff. I have a special necklace that I wear for important life moments. I wore it only yesterday when I went to the bank to pay the final balance to purchase my first home.

I think that's lovely! You'll have lots of moments where you think "this is a special moment, but is it necklace special?"!

I have a special necklace too that I used to wear frequently. I then wore it on my wedding day because it meant so much to me and now I wear it less frequently but it means even more to me now when I do.

Having a special pen to sign important things is a lovely idea, but knowing my luck every time I went to use it the ink would have dried up!

PfishFood · 10/09/2024 11:04

Oh and I don't think OP was trying to say anything including the price in the title other than "Can you believe this pen cost me £620 and I can't find refills for it anywhere - have I just wasted a colossal amount of money?".

People can spent as little or as much on pens (or anything else for that matter) as they want. You might not agree with it, or be envious of it, but why not just be happy for someone that has the ability to buy something they enjoy??

You’re of course free to act according to your own personal sense of duty, but that isn’t something anyone else needs to pay the slightest bit of attention to.

So don't be offended when someone else is offended? 👍 That's the way to go! 😊

Nothing quite like luxury goods to summon the vipers 😂

That’s not what I’m doing at all, she gave an example of writing with her £600+ pen and I said it didn’t improve it from a cheaper type.

Unless your son has also written with an expensive pen and there was no difference how is what you've posted relevant?

Big whoop to him if he was born with an to write neatly, unless he's at primary school or a sign writer it's not really worthy of comment is it?

I’m not sure why pointing out that your values here are not something you can expect anyone else to adhere to suggests offence has been taken 🤷🏻‍♀️

Kjpt140v · 10/09/2024 18:15

Buy a Bic, cheap enough just to replace the pen. Are you showing off?

BooBooDoodle · 10/09/2024 18:17

FinallyYouSaid · 09/09/2024 00:08

My my. I've bought cars for £620 in my time 😂

What is it about a £600 pen that makes it worth £600? Not snarky, genuinely curious.

I’ll stick to my Bic rollerball 🤣 Jesus wept

These ones?

Not expensive enough. How can she show off, with such cheap trash?

Any better? It's gone midnight and I didn't expect a handwriting test!

Judgemental.

Single50something · 10/09/2024 18:25

Cult Pens?

Debs2024 · 10/09/2024 18:32

A beautiful pen, and yet you write ' it writes lovely', 'have ran out' and 'source'.
It writes beautifully, I have run out, and bought.

SquirrelSoShiny · 10/09/2024 19:04

OP ignore the joyless bastards and enjoy your beautiful pen that gives you so much joy! ❤️

Editing to add - some of the comments on this thread are shameful and show just how much mumsnet has changed. Attacking people's handwriting or spelling shows how truly small some people have become. This thread almost sums up what is wrong with Britain at the minute. It's like a collective race to the bottom misery-fest! People can spend their own bloody money on whatever they wish! Some people choose shoes or cigarettes or giant TVs or weekends away. Let the OP enjoy her bloody pen in peace you miserable twits!

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 10/09/2024 19:08

It's a bit ridiculous now. I bet half the posters staying things like, "Get a Bic," don't actually give a shit about the pen and just want to pile in because it's fun.

TheFallenMadonna · 10/09/2024 19:09

I love pens, so I get it. I use fountain pens all the time, and have one fancy-ish one, but my others are £20-30 ones because I can't be trusted not to lose them (I slide them onto my lanyard at work). If I had a different job, I might well have a fancier pen...

MsLavender · 10/09/2024 19:11

I'm broke as fuck but if I had money then this is the kind of thing I would spend it on over a fancy handbag/shoes etc

As for mentioning the price I think it's relevant because why would OP care so much about finding a refill for a pen that costs a fiver? the point is that it is an expensive pen and it would be a shame to scrap it simply because they can no longer find refills for it.

Yep!

Is “judgeful” even a word?
