Valentina Petrillo only started transitioning 5 years ago and previously competed as a man. How can that be fair? I appreciate that she did not make the final, but she's taken the place of a woman who has worked her arse off, but couldn't surpass Valentina's natural advantage.

He's a cheating man taking advantage of this ridiculous zeitgeist of gendered souls. I can't wait for the Galileos of our time (aka JKRowling, Martina Navratilova, etc.) to finally get the credit deserved for saying, "uh, no. This is nuts."

The big question future generations will ask is why the hell sports governing bodies, and indeed governments, suddenly started saying that a man’s a woman if he says he is.

Things is they don't allow males to compete on the female catagory in AB sport.

They have female and male/open categories.

So why is it allowed in para sport.

Is it because they think those with disabilities should be "more inclusive" or something because they expect inclusivity and equality?

Para sport is just as tough and competitive as AB sport. It should be treated as such.

I mean they haven't thought about it at all. If they had, that athlete wouldn't have been there. So yes, they need to think about it. Properly. If they want to be inclusive to trans athletes, they need to put thought into how they do that, rather than just dumping them into women's events.

NGB - national governing body

AB - able bodied.

The international bodies mostly also have the same transgender policies where only females born female sex can compete as females and the rest compete male/open.

I have to admit I assumed it was the same in para sport. And I'm embarrassed I didn't realise as my ds is a para swimmer.

I want to see if WPS (world para swimming) have the same male/open and female as AB. But part of me is scared to look!

Yes they claim.

But they can't compete when it comes to competition under the NGB license.

That's why Lia Thomas can't race as a woman in swimming. A local unlicensed club gala may allow it. Anything licensed is male/open and female. It's the same for swimming in the UK and also international swimming.

Most sports bodied nationally have adopted this as most international sports bodies have the same rules. (I know boxing doesn't).
