To wonder (thinking about this awful French rape case) if humans are just rotten

1000 replies

OptimismvsRealism · 05/09/2024 15:04

It wasn't just the husband - at least 80 men went along with this. Guys with ordinary lives drawn out of nowhere.

I wonder if it would be better if we were to just wind things up as a species.

@AngelicKaty possibly. Looking at the definition of misogyny, I'll concede that PART of me will default to prejudice against women at times. The other aspects of the definition of misogyny do not apply.

I believe mindset can always be challenged or shifted in open minded thinkers who are malleable like myself. This is the reason I participate in these discussions. I have shifted my viewpoints on a few topics after MN debate. This is also why I don't like seeing a pile on in response to some posters across the various MN topics.

Uplifting and supporting the patriarchy by constantly holding women responsible for the actions of men and how they are raised and not the Fathers is also oppressing yourself (assuming your female)

It's not making your life easier, it's making it easier for the patriarchy to control.

It's hard enough to deal with men using mysoginistic phrases without women then coming on to berate you and use the same phrases while they defend the same men then accuse you of not being a good, kind woman.

DiscoBeat · 06/09/2024 01:56

But that's why a shocking case like this hits the news. It's very rare and most people are good people.
It's so awful. That poor woman will probably never fully recover from that.

YellowphantGrey · 06/09/2024 01:58

WearyAuldWumman · 06/09/2024 01:44

That's true. On another thread, I admitted that as a child I found it easier to relate to males than females. And yes, I've been bullied by females. (Mainly at secondary school - and it did have a lasting effect.)

However, the biggest impact on my life was made by boys and men who have hurt me. (No, I'm not just talking about emotional damage.)

So yes - there's no comparison. Some women and girls can be awful - but in my life I've had more cause to be wary of boys and men.

I've learned the hard way - you can never let down your guard around the male sex, no matter your age.

Of course some girls/women can be awful.

But girls/women's behaviour is never minimised or apologised for or blamed elsewhere the way boys/men's behaviour is.

There's always an excuse for men.

Male violence against women isn't rare.

Nice try.

Tracey Connelly is the mother of 'Baby P' Peter Connelly who she neglected and abused, and allowed to be abused by her boyfriend and his brother. All three were convicted of his killing, specifically "causing or allowing the death of a child".

And she's just been recalled to prison for the second time. She's utterly vile - but no more vile than the millions of men who've committed similar crimes but whose names we can't recall because there are so many of them.

What has she been recalled for?

I think online porn/ only fans

Pantaloons99 · 06/09/2024 02:04

@YellowphantGrey I completely hear that - and I believe it too! All that you say - I don't feel that applies to me entirely at all however. I may well be using misogynist language without realising it.

My view is probably really informed by my own experiences. I do not fit into a neat category and am certainly more complex than that when it comes to this topic.

AngelicKaty · 06/09/2024 02:09

YellowphantGrey · 06/09/2024 02:01

Breaching her licence conditions by posting pornographic images of herself online for money. 🤢

What is wrong with asking why men are like this? Why is it so wrong to put that question out there?

Nothing is wrong with asking it. And nothing in my post suggested there was anything wrong with it. Why are you asking me this question?

Because she has a habit of wilfully misreading things then responding to them on the back of a straw man.

Garlictest · 06/09/2024 02:21

I meant to mention this in an earlier reply, too. USA, 2022: Women in the US are more likely to be murdered during pregnancy or soon after childbirth than to die from the three leading obstetric causes of maternal death (high blood pressure disorders, hemorrhage, or sepsis), say experts in The BMJ.

That would be murdered by their male partners - the report goes on to link intimate partner violence statistics. Just when women are being the most female it's possible to be, men murder them. How much must they hate women, even after impregnating them?

The US does have higher rates of intimate partner violence than the UK - and worse obstetric mortality - so let's hope this is one Americanism that doesn't make its way over the ocean.

sunnydays1364 · 06/09/2024 02:21

I think what is telling is the way women are treated in other countries such as Afghanistan, Sudan and Republic of Congo. In DRC it was 48 an hour.

If men could get away with doing it more they would, because in countries where they can get away with doing it they do.

Pantaloons99 · 06/09/2024 02:34

@sunnydays1364 have you heard of the various red pill female supporters ( if that's what they're called). These might include ' pearly things' and Candace Owens. There's also Rachel Wilson who is married to Crucible podcaster and debater Andrew Wilson. You might not have heard of these.

They are part of a movement towards return to traditional values as they'll call it alongside a pro life agenda, removal of women's right to vote, removal of women in the workplace ( not entirely possibly, but scaling right back). They seem to blame much of the current rights of women for societies ills.

Why do you think women ( many are intelligent and articulate) are such vocal proponents of this sort of thing?

I do not support any of the above at all. Some other arguments did however suck me in somewhat. ( E.g the massive problems with the Only Fans culture).

NonsuchCastle · 06/09/2024 02:39

YellowphantGrey · 06/09/2024 02:21

I can't remember now. Maybe I got the wrong person. I'm sorry if so.

Garlictest · 06/09/2024 02:46

@Pantaloons99, a lot of intelligent and articulate people are just awful human beings. Intelligent, articulate people are often proved wrong, sometimes catastrophically. Knowing someone's intelligent and articulate tells you nothing else about them 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yep. I'm in Australia, and this morning on ABC Melbourne radio the police were saying that DV matters took up 40-60 per cent of their time and they desperately needed specialist staff devoted to DV. We've had some horrific cases here.

OptimismvsRealism · 05/09/2024 17:47

I mean, these guys were men but women have committed plenty of atrocities too. I don't think you can get away with othering them just because you're a woman.

Oh blah blah blah. Hahaha. Jog on mate.

KateMiskin · 06/09/2024 04:31

There have been a lot of diversionary tactics on this thread, by men or their apologists.

In answer to the pp who jumped the shark by asking what we should do: should all men be killed????🙄 No. Nobody is arguing that. But by recognising the problem of male violence rather than arguing that women are bitchy too, we can atttempt to put some measures in place.

For instance, the Met Police is now treating male violence on a par with Islamist terror. And yes, I do realise the irony of the misogynistic Met admitting this. Met Police chief warns of escalating male violence - Tortoise (tortoisemedia.com)

The scale of male violence against women in England and Wales is “an inconvenient truth” that goes way beyond the capacity of the criminal justice system to solve, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has told the London Policing Board....

're the trial, I just saw this on Twitter. Even whilst giving evidence about her terrible ordeal, she is being gaslit...

You have got to be fucking kidding me? 'Sex scene'???
Not even allowed to use the very word to describe what happened, what the man is actually being accused of in legal terms, she's being forced to prioritise her rapist's 'legal rights'...
'Sex scene', like it's some artistic cinematic creation not the brutal rape of an unconscious non-consenting woman, and one of dozens of barbaric instances in which she was horrifically violated. I've just had enough.
This case has filled me with so much rage, I don't know where to put it.
