In the last year I've met three separate couples that are so into Disney.

I know we all like different things, but isn't Disney for children?

@Calliopespa i feel the same as you in regards to sun lounge holidays. i went on one with a friend and was utterly bored by day two…

i appreciate both the disney and cultural holidays. so would be thrilled with either of the options lol

I've been on one sun lounger holiday in my life, at a time when I needed to stop. That's the only time I've enjoyed it.

Other than that, we've tried a couple of times and always ended up hiring a car or hopping on the bus to explore. Gotta be doing stuff. Always enjoyed the Disney holidays for it being busy but just fun so you're still relaxing (and so exhausted by the end of the day you just pass out!).

I think sun lounger holidays are more for people who just want to drink. Which is fine if that's your thing, but it's not my bag. I'm not going to judge people who enjoy it though, or call them pathetic like many in this thread have done.

Taylor Swift is a musician in her 30s. She is not "meant" for kids. She's meant for anyone who relates to or enjoys the music she creates.

Harry Potter is a story. You can enjoy a story at any age. It's not "meant" for kids.

Disney is a wide collection of characters and stories. Which is why their appeal is so wide.

I bet there's things you enjoy that people would say aren't "meant" for you. Does that make you pathetic?

Give me an example of something that wasn't meant for me?
All my interests and activities are age-approrpiate

Adults 'into' anything meant for kids are rather pathetically sad, particularly if they wear the costumes in public.
Disney, Harry Potter, Taylor Swift..

Do you not think it’s nice? People can relax and have fun? The world is so awful sometimes people just want something nice. It’s also like cosplaying isn’t it.

Youre making yourself sound like a very grumpy , pearl clutcher who hates everyone else.

Sadly, we'll have to disagree!
Cosplay is just dressing up for adults!

And there we are - throwing in the pearl-clutching trope
Be as rude as you like, it's pathetic

I saved my judgement for people's behaviour and in particular their behaviour towards other people.

Enjoy Disney. Wear mouse ears. Don't. Dress up as a furry. Don't. Read comics. Read chick lit. Read horror. Love movies. Whatever.

Deliberately do or say something to hurt someone? You're awful.

Why are you calling me awful? I’ve not said anything to hurt anyone.

Talk about judgemental.

But your viewpoint exactly matches mine, which you said was vitriolic. Ho hum.

Oh, please
you really are scraping the bottom of the barrel

FatmanandKnobbin · 06/09/2024 08:56

The ironic thing here is the mindset that you're not allowed to enjoy certain things at certain ages is completely childish and the sort of thing you hear in primary school.

Past the age of 18 you're only allowed to enjoy museums and opera or be doomed to a lifetime of being looked down upon by adultier adults than you.

ThePrologue · 06/09/2024 09:02

WTF type of question is that

Carouselfish · 06/09/2024 09:03

Ah the Little Britain sketch.

Presumably it's annoying the adults are queuing to meet 'characters' because they're old enough to know it's a spotty teen wrapped in polyester?

I never used the word vitriolic. I said I don't judge people on their interests. You, apparently, do. Very different view point.

DancingLions · 06/09/2024 09:08

I'd rather listen to someone talking about Disney than listen to them droning on about work, Strictly/Bake off etc, their cleaning routine or their running times!

I do like Disney, not hugely into it, although I do like many other "childish" things. I don't really care what people think. I like the fact that there are lots of things that still make me feel "joyful". That's an emotion that can be hard to find as an adult.

The thread I read before this was about someone in their 40s who is feeling flat and not excited by anything any more and plenty agreeing that it's a common feeling. I'm 55 and never felt like that. There is always something I can get excited about. If someone can still feel "childlike joy" that is something to cherish, not feel embarrassed about.

Yes, the logic's not strong with this one...

I would love to be that sure about someone I have never met. Clearly you have some sort of gift. Offer your services to OLD couples - you could make a fortune assessing people on a couple of lines of text
So you think drinking alcohol is pathetically sad? If I had responded 'yes, I drink alcohol', you would deem me sad? Based on what - assuming I get off my face or don't drink enough? how exactly does a yes response lead to your conclusion, even with your amazing gift?

I don't know what your interests are, because you won't tell us.

My point is that nothing is "meant" for anyone, other than the people who enjoy it.

The fact that you believe interests need to be "age appropriate" just suggests that you can't actually just enjoy something for what it is. You have to assess whether it's for you or not first. Which is quite a sad way to live. Just enjoy what you enjoy.

Is it creepy or pathetic when younger people like things more traditionally associated with older people? Is it creepy or pathetic that I, when in my 20s joined the National Trust so I could visit fascinating places?

And?

Does it matter if adults enjoy dressing up?

What about actors? They make a living from it. Does it make them sad? Pathetic millionaires we watch on our TVs?

Why the different train of thought though?

Why is Disney only for children? Or HP? Or Taylor? Explain it to me.

The people who aren't into Disney on this thread all agree with you on this point, you moron. You and a couple of others have invented any nastiness or malice on our parts by deliberately misreading 'laughing at'.

I'm pursuing this 'argument' only because I care about critical thinking and holding up logic in debate, and usually I don't bother because it's fucking mind-numbing. But sometimes I just feel 'well somebody had to, and this is one of those times.
