Feral children

Several children, have been arrested in connection with the death of an 80 year old dog walker.

What is wrong with children today? I remember the Bulger case and it sent shockwaves around the world, now people just accept that children kill.

Absolutely don’t agree with comments about parents. Of course some parents (Sean mercer’s parents for example) would protect their children.

But I’m from a WC background and have grown up in rough areas. There are parents who are lovely, and despite best efforts haven’t been able to prevent their child meeting unruly, disrespectful and violent peers. I’ve first hand witnessed a mum I knew who completely lost control of her child. He got in with bad people, she tried everything from grounding him at the start escalating to reaching out to services. People have to realise some of these kids get big, strong, even by 13/14 and it’s physically impossible to stop them as a woman from leaving the house.

What do they mean by "the Police are keeping an open mind about the events leading upto the attack"

shuggles · 03/09/2024 21:26

It means the police don't know what happened.

It means that unlike most people here, the police aren't leaping to conclusions.

It means the police don't know what happened.

Aahh OK. Wasn't sure as I've never seen it reported like that and whether it meant something more as in there was a reason for it or whether they just don't know.

Thank you!

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 03/09/2024 21:27

People have to realise some of these kids get big, strong, even by 13/14 and it’s physically impossible to stop them as a woman from leaving the house.

This is why we need a society with discipline and high behavioural standards.
Because as you say if a child gets big and strimg enough and goes off the rails, there are no consequences and nothing to stop them.

So single mothers in these situations are stuffed.

This isn't surprising at all. This is the consequence of a breakdown in traditional values and morality. What did everyone expect?

You might want to take a look at the crime stats for Victorian cities, with specific reference to criminal minors.

It matters in terms of actually understanding why these children have done something so horrific. It doesn’t mean they’re not culpable.

People are all over this thread complaining about irrelevant nonsense like gentle parenting and how awful kids these days are.

The reality is that the ringleaders at least will be very far from typical kids, and their lives will have been far from gentle.

Understand why they did it? For the purpose of what? Nothing will ever change sadly, understand these kids will have neglectful, abusive even childhoods, no proper attachments etc. We know all this causes damage in children. They did it because they could and thought it was fun no foubt. So no idea what a solution is either.

So they call the police on their own children. They do whatever needs to be done. What they don't do is let them roam the streets and MURDER someone.

Why are people assuming that the parents of these children are on benefits?

Because hard working families tend to hold it together much more and have aspirations for their children.

You can almost guarantee they ( The parent/s will be on benefits.

Not really comparable given there was no social state as such, children were not required to attend school until the 1880s or so and many many things were crimes that were not these days

Not to mention that there is an approach now by police, schools, public services that we are not to criminalise children. So many crimes that are committed by children, even quite violent crimes are usually NFA. You wont hear about them and theres no consequences within criminal justice.

Very true.

DS2 by 14 was physically bigger and stronger than me. If he was so inclined to play truant or leave the house and do stuff like this, I couldnt stop him.

This is why it bloody annoys me when parents, but especially single mothers get taken to court because her 6 foot, 12 stone,15 year old son wont go to school and she is in trouble for not getting him there. How on earth can she reasonably be expected to do that?

Auburngal · 03/09/2024 21:33

I live in Leicestershire. Unsure what race these kids are.

Takking of feral children. About 7 years ago, a young man living at the back of me was arrested, charged and given a 15 year sentence for raping an elderly woman in her home. Plus his sister was given a 5 year prison sentence for something (can’t remember what for). The mum who has 3 other kids was at my work said she is proud of her kids! Erm proud that you have your two eldest children in prison? Don’t be stupid

EsmaCannonball · 03/09/2024 21:34

I'm sorry, but it is always the parents. I remember seeing a woman on the television moaning that her sons were criminals because once they got to the age of 13 she was no longer able to stop them doing what they want. A child psychologist agreed with her that is was difficult to stop boys that age from behaving as they like but then told her that it was still her fault because she had failed to parent then properly up to the age of 13 and instill them with basic decency and proper values. If your 13 year old is susceptible to yobs and gangs and drugs and doesn't know it's wrong to harass elderly people then you have spent 13 years being a terrible parent.

It isn't always poor parents, either. Affluenza is a thing. Some wealthier parents raise their children to be arrogant and entitled and thinking they are untouchable.

Thevelvelletes · 03/09/2024 21:34

Just read that a young woman in Tranent Scotland was pushed off a bench by two teens at a bus stop..poor woman miss carried because of it .. sorry no link.
Wtf is happening with our country.

If you work with children you wouldnt be surprised at this. Im more surprised that people are surprised at violence from girls.

I agree. Girls can be very violent.
They can also be manipulative and sly.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 03/09/2024 21:37

This is just awful. We live close by and DD and her friends would often meet here.

That poor man and his family Sad

Mumoftwochildrenand6furkids · 03/09/2024 21:37

This is awful reminded of the 13 and 14 year old girl who beat angela wrightson to death in her home, Iv watch an movie on it and what that poor women went through was terrible. Its like some people are bringing up feral kids with no discipline, no doubt their parent will come up with some excuses for them.

It's truly awful. I couldn't believe what I was reading. I wonder if any of the parents are openly racist and condone such attacks, particularly in light of the recent riots.

We had this exact discussion this evening. Almost as if the riots made such violence "acceptable " now in some circles

Absolute bollocks. There are many middle class/upper class parents who barely see their children and assume they'll be just fine because of their wealth and the peers they interact with. On the other hand there are many parents on benefits who are fighting tooth and nail for their children to have a better life than they've had and would do anything to drag them out of the poverty pit and all that comes with it.

WalkingaroundJardine · 03/09/2024 21:40

The poor elderly man. It sounded like he had possibly been harassed prior to this as there was prior contact with the police on the victim’s part. I grew up in Leicester and that part of the city was (back then) lower income and mostly white. It did make me wonder if it was related to the discontent behind the recent riots. Quite a lot of children were involved with the rioting and detained at the time.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned the impact of social media but quite a lot of far right content is directed at young people. Not excusing their actions of course but when Elon Musk himself wants to see civil war in the UK he is obviously making it easier for extremists to spread their message on his platform.

Bellamari · 03/09/2024 21:42

I wouldn’t be surprised if the crime was committed by one or two of the kids and the others just happened to be there. That’s usually the case when someone has been killed. It’s dreadful anyway.

It’s about getting on in life and contributing to society. These loser parents don’t value such ideas so they have loser kids. Therefore the kids don’t go to school and stay in their council provided homes with benefits and crime funding alcohol, drugs, fags, vapes, internet. An easy life of doing nothing to improve and causing misery to others through crime. True scum.
