Aibu for being frustrated with a colleague

So, we had lunch delivered yesterday and it’s a rare treat for us at work to get this. It was sushi and wraps and cakes.

A colleague of mine, who is somewhat greedy I feel. Took one of the boxes that things were delivered in and says to me “I’m going to take some of this home for tea” she took 12 wraps so 6 full ones, 10 sushi and a few cakes.

I ended up telling my team leader but didn’t want to be horrible about it but it was sort of greedy in my opinion to take that much when it was supposed to be for our spread today. I would understand if it was a case of food poverty or something, but the issue is she goes for regular dinners that are pricey and gets regular take outs.

AIBU for being annoyed here.

She's a CF. Taking it home for tea? Was she expecting a coach party at home?!

What did your team leader say?

ShortColdandGrey · 03/09/2024 12:13

What a cheeky madame. Did your team leader go and get it back off of her? You should have called her out when she told you what she was doing.

I was actually a bit like. Do I moan about it. She took so much and literally filled a box.

I told my team leader in the morning bc she left and was packing the box when everyone has gone home and didn’t realise I was still there.

Was there still enough of each thing to go round, OP? If she took it before lunch had been finished, YANBU at all.

If there'd been loads left after lunch and people were invited to take it to save wasting any, that'd be a different matter.

SallyWD · 03/09/2024 12:17

That's bad! We only ever rate food home if there are leftovers that will be binned. Very cheeky.

Spinet · 03/09/2024 12:18

If everyone had gone wasn't it leftovers then?

KrisAkabusi · 03/09/2024 12:18

You had lunch for today delivered yesterday? Because I would assume anything there at the end of the day was leftovers.

SD1978 · 03/09/2024 12:19

The real question, did everyone have enough, or did this mean people went without?

BabaYetu · 03/09/2024 12:20

If this was leftovers YABU. Sushi can’t be kept, it needs to be eaten. If everyone else had left except you, surely she’d just taking what would be binned?

PuppyMonkey · 03/09/2024 12:22

If it was things that could have been leftover for a second lunch today, or cakes that people might have wanted more of today, that’s bang out of order without checking first. Fair enough if most of you said you wouldn’t want leftovers a day later but at least ask.

MartinCrieffsLemon · 03/09/2024 12:24

Wait, so it wad delivered yesterday for today?
Why?

If it was used yesterday and left out then it's leftovers and would go in the bin otherwise so it's better someone ate it...

Truetoself · 03/09/2024 12:28

If it was leftovers then I don't understand the issue. Did you want some too?

MissUltraViolet · 03/09/2024 12:31

First post made it sound like she filled her take home box up before or during lunch but it sounds like everyone (except you and her?) had gone home for the day so....she took left overs? that would probably have just been thrown out?

GaryLurcher19 · 03/09/2024 12:33

OP, we need clarity on the timeline. 😁

I think your colleague is a CF either way but how much of a CF she is depends on whether it was leftover or not, whether she checked it was free to take and, if so, whether she let others know they could take some.

If she:

1, Took it before the lunch was had = CFing Thief!

2, Took it after lunch without asking or sharing = CF

3, Took it after asking but without sharing = Bit of a CF

GaryLurcher19 · 03/09/2024 12:35

Number 4 would be her checking it was free and letting others know. That would be fine as it reduces waste, but I assume that didn't happen because OP would have been asked if she wanted to take any too.

needsomewarmsunshine · 03/09/2024 12:36

I'm being dense, but this doesn't make any sense without time line.

SquatWeightaMinute · 03/09/2024 12:37

I'm confused but agree with others;

taking left overs - ok
taking before the lunch even happened - really not ok!

KreedKafer · 03/09/2024 12:43

So did she take her share of the food home instead of eating it in the office? Or did she eat in the office and then also fill another box to take home?

itsmabeline · 03/09/2024 12:44

Leftovers are fair game.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 03/09/2024 12:46

So you’re complaining about leftovers?

ActualChips · 03/09/2024 12:49

You wanted to do a 'spread' of old sushi and stale cake?🤢

SatansBobbleheadedDashboardOrnament · 03/09/2024 12:51

She sounds like a greedy madam, but if it was leftovers after everybody else had gone home, surely it would have gone in the bin? Are you pissed because you wanted to take some of it home and she got in there first?

cosyleafcafe · 03/09/2024 12:51

Even if it's leftovers, it would be rude to take that much without checking if anyone else wants some.

MartinCrieffsLemon · 03/09/2024 12:53

But it sounds like everyone had gone home

So it was left to presumably just go in the bin when the cleaners came in?
