The biggest Sunday blues ever, first day back to work after a long summer off.

Dreading it.

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 01/09/2024 19:20

Why did you have the whole summer off? Are you a teacher?

Teaching assistant and I know we're lucky to have summer off but it's like any job when you have time off you don't want to go back. The longer you have off the worse it gets!

Ahhh, after a few days it will feel as if you've never been off......! 🤣

BCBird · 01/09/2024 19:23

Teacher here. Not easy going back I know OP. Not helped by all the BS we will hsve to.listen to either. Going to zone out.

AppleKatie · 01/09/2024 19:24

Just think every day brings you closer to the next glorious summer off!

Decided this is my last year. Think will go earli and become a TA. After 32 years I've had enough. The pace is relentless

Me too. Year 28. Doesn't get easier.

Honestly, it's eye opening the pressures that teachers have to face and the crazy hours. I have a chance to do my QTS but I am just not ready to put in that many hours while my children are young. Hats off to all the teachers that cope with the relentless timetable.

Same

Type2whattodo · 01/09/2024 19:29

I imagine many kids are also dreading it.
Hats off to teachers, I think dealing with the attitude of teenagers and the entitlement of parents who protect their children from consequences of their hideous behaviour must be soul destroying. Hopefully a few nice ones in each class to offset the horrid.

I’ve spent the day in dread! I’ve got such a shit September ahead. It’s like all the tasks I hate hate hate doing have ganged up and invaded my calendar 😨

PeterCapaldiBae · 01/09/2024 19:33

Another TA here dreading going back. :(

Considering a job vacancy at tesco. Not sure all the holidays are worth it anymore.

I agree, many children will be dreading it! My own children are. I have DD1 going into year 9, DS1 going into year 8, DD2 going into year 6 and DD3 going into year 5. I can safely say none of them are looking forward to it

Teacher here... absolutely dreading tomorrow and this year in general! It will be my most testing to date thanks to the cohort we have coming up 🫠 if I survive this year, I deserve a trophy!

tattygrl · 01/09/2024 19:38

It is a major goal in my life to reach a point where I'm earning enough (I mean enough - not wealth, just enough), reliably, without dreading the work I do. I mean I guess that's everyone's life goal, really. That dread feeling before returning to work is just awful and I can't stand the idea of that being my future forever.

Are you primary? I have noticed that the further down the school we look, the more challenging the behaviour. I am in Year 6 and this is probably the last cohort we have without lots of various behaviour/emotion/sen. I don't know if that's predominant everywhere or just the area I am in.

I left education 2 years ago. I really don't miss the Sunday blues especially going back after the holidays.

So much pressure and stress.
Happy new school year to those still doing it. 2 days in and this will all be a distant memory.

That's a great goal to have, wouldn't that be a lovely feeling? Knowing that you didn't have to go to work to pay the bills but could go to work just for the enjoyment if you wanted to.

BirdFeederFun · 01/09/2024 19:42

Same. Teaching in a different capacity and scanning the job ads.

I'm not able to do anything at home in just stuck waiting for the inevitable.

This isnt a way to live.

notsureicandoitagain · 01/09/2024 19:43

I'm with you @FcukTheDay - luckily (?!) we have an inset day where we listen to all the usual stuff, but at least the kids aren't back. Just as well as I've got some quite troublesome kids this year to teach and support and I know that alone will exhaust me as I try and meet their needs. And knowing that I'll probably fail and feel bad that not enough is done for those children struggling.

And yes I am looking at other jobs in other industries.

TwinklyAmberOrca · 01/09/2024 19:45

I'm looking forward to INSET day!!! Can't wait to go back go work and have a wee without having to shout "I'm having a wee" to kids who apparently cannot cope without me for the 2 minutes it takes to wee. 🙄

ERest · 01/09/2024 19:47

Got to say it's not just in teaching primary and secondary kids that gives that feeling. I have been off now for the better part of three weeks and I am not jumping for joy at the thought of resuming work tomorrow.
Work is work, not bad at all but also something I wish I could decide not to do if I wanted. Well, got to pay the bills somehow.
