The biggest Sunday blues ever, first day back to work after a long summer off.

You do realise that most people dread going back to work, it’s not restricted to teachers.

Did anyone say it was? <scans thread> Nope.

BirdFeederFun · 01/09/2024 22:40

No it really isn't.

But a lot of teachers want to leave teaching currently so it will add to it.

DanceMumTaxi · 01/09/2024 23:01

Can’t believe I’ve probably got another 20 years of this 😭

Watermelodious · 01/09/2024 23:18

Every year and it's:"is this the year they sack me?" 22 years and I still don't feel good enough. I don't know how those teachers who end up slt at 32 do it. Where does the confidence come from? How can they cope with all the extra work? How can they cope with all the bollocks they have to spout?

And how many years do I have to work until I take my full pension? Some say 35, so I'd be 57, but others say until I'm 68.

I'm half dreading the kids returning to school and half desparate for it myself.

Trying to work FT alongside 6 weeks of summer holidays with no grandparents to help, Is a huge challenge and I am done!

Trying to keep up with multiple childrens school schedules/ homework/sporting events/ parent engagement workshops is exhausting for parents, never mind the kids and teachers.

I wish life was more forgiving all round!!

To those who said there are more sen issues in younger years in schools- from nhs perspective I agree.

I think there are several factors I've seen:

Erosion of special school places and funding for support for children with SEN, meaning mainstream teachers will have more children with sen in their classes and be asked to 'do more with less'.

The covid lockdowns appear to have amplified sensory issues in some of the children I work with. Whether it revealed them early, or meant children were socialised a different way I don't know.

I can see the effects physically - more children seem to have poor core stability and function compared to older kids, amplified by increasing screen time and decreasing time outdoors on playgrounds/ bikes etc. The lack of core stability means poor sitting postures, which means difficulty paying attention and impacts on posture in writing.

Don't get me started on attention. My 9yo is terrible and so are her peers. Helping out in cubs every now and then is enlightening....

Teacher starting back tomorrow too (two INSET days thankfully) - can’t sleep!

I'm not a teacher or a ta but going back to work on the 9th after a few months off due to personal stuff happening . Dreading it

Shesellsseashellsontheseasure · 01/09/2024 23:57

I'm back Tuesday after being signed off for 9 weeks with depression. I'm not a teacher, but I have the summer holiday depressions

Milkandtwosugarsplease · 02/09/2024 00:05

I’m a teacher and subject leader and feel sick at the idea of it all starting up again. 7 weeks, that’s all I’m clinging onto.

grungey · 02/09/2024 00:43

I think dealing with the attitude of teenagers and the entitlement of parents who protect their children from consequences of their hideous behaviour must be soul destroying. Hopefully a few nice ones in each class to offset the horrid

@Type2whattodo what a bloody horrible attitude YOU have.

A few nice ones to offset the horrid? Like the human population between 11 and 17 are largely vile? I work with teenagers - they are lovely in the main - and they are not a homogeneous entity anymore than "children", "the elderly", "middle aged people" or any other age group you'd like to generalise about!

Glad I’m not alone. I hear you. I go back Thursday after having 7 weeks off due to personal reasons. I really don’t want to go back. Not a teacher but work in emotionally demanding role. Wish I spent more time looking for a new job but grass isn’t always greener.
