The biggest Sunday blues ever, first day back to work after a long summer off.

The work place sucks and so many people I know are just sick of it all.
Not sure how we all got to this situation, but we have.

That's a great goal to have, wouldn't that be a lovely feeling? Knowing that you didn't have to go to work to pay the bills but could go to work just for the enjoyment if you wanted to.

Totally. Some days I have hope it'll happen, other days I think I'm wishing for the moon 😂 I suppose the reality is that doing something through obligation will always feel rubbish some days, but it would be great to find an income source that had a minimum of dread involved.

fuffymeloncauli · 01/09/2024 19:55

I love my job. I get to train people (adults) and geek out with a spreadsheet.

fuffymeloncauli · 01/09/2024 19:56

But yeah if anyone hates teaching then don't do it. I know "someone has to" but it really doesn't have to be you

Bogginsthe3rd · 01/09/2024 19:56

It's time for those endless summer nights to end for you. Put on a proper suit, do up your tie and sing the national anthem while you get back to work.

Are you primary? I have noticed that the further down the school we look, the more challenging the behaviour. I am in Year 6 and this is probably the last cohort we have without lots of various behaviour/emotion/sen. I don't know if that's predominant everywhere or just the area I am in.

Yeah I'm year 5! Behaviour of this year group coming up is very challenging with extreme amounts and levels of SEN 🫠 my class last year were lovely, I miss them already 😂

Do you work in adult Ed? Or L and D? Curious as I'd quite like to have a viable non zero hours job with adults.

Yellowaveo59 · 01/09/2024 20:03

First day back tomorrow after maternity leave 😢

FlippityFloppityFlump · 01/09/2024 20:05

I don't work in schools tend to only have a week or two off at a time. I get awful back to work blues even though I enjoy my job.
Can't imagine how hard the back to work blues must hit after 6 weeks off. You have my sympathy.
DS goes back to school on wednesday and is starting high school. I imagine he and I won't be sleeping much Tuesday night!

I’m back tomorrow after my first summer holiday as a TA, sahm prior to that, dreading it and looking forward to it in equal measure. I had a significant & unexpected illness/injury prior to the holidays after being at home/not in work for a couple of years which threw me a curve ball and I can’t wait to catch up with the kids on Wednesday & meet the new intake too.

I’m considering teacher training (secondary) next year but thinking of leaving it a few more years (I’m 43 with kids 9,8,7 &5). Time is not in my side & torn between career/job & being more ‘present’ for my kids.

suburburban · 01/09/2024 20:18

Yes it's very hard

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 01/09/2024 20:25

Dreading it. I work in a Preschool with a very difficult manager. The children are wonderful though (mainly!).

wonderstuff · 01/09/2024 20:25

Dreading it, not helped by the fact I found out I was presenting tomorrow by reading the INSET agenda sent out last week! Moved schools in January and I’m hating it. Counting down until I can hand my notice in in May (hopefully with another job but I’ll go on supply rather than face another year here).

Choochoo21 · 01/09/2024 20:33

I used to be a teacher and would always start before the kids to get used to it.

Once you’re back through those doors you’ll be fine, it’s just the anxiety of going back and it all feeling overwhelming.

I think INSET days are nice on the first day of term to give the staff a bit of an ease into it.

Good luck!

BirdFeederFun · 01/09/2024 20:39

I'm trawling through job adverts and career websites. It's overwhelming.

OneBadKitty · 01/09/2024 20:45

TA here too! Safegaurding training day tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing my lovely colleagues, but the challenges ahead, especially the serious under-staffing of SEN and umber of children starting in reception with issues such as not being toilet trained is daunting.

Notellinganyone · 01/09/2024 20:58

I’m actually looking forward to it. I’ve had 8 weeks off and am ready to roll. Starting my 31st year!

fuffymeloncauli · 01/09/2024 21:01

PeterCapaldiBae · 01/09/2024 19:33

Another TA here dreading going back. :(

Considering a job vacancy at tesco. Not sure all the holidays are worth it anymore.

Fair enough. Retail is hard too mind. All sorts of abusive members of the public there.

Are you in an independent school?

FcukTheDay · 01/09/2024 21:05

Inset day tomorrow and Tuesday for me. We have had to cut some staff and we was already understaffed last year. The job itself would be great if we were properly resourced.

If it helps I'm sure a lot of the parents who have been trying desperately to get their kids toilet trained are also dreading it

No sorry. I'm a trainer outside the education sector.

BirdFeederFun · 01/09/2024 21:09

Ah yes. I'd like to love across to that. It seems a lot more civilised! Although a lot of trainers do come up from within their own sector it seems.
