Abit annoyed at DH

Seatalteaxl · 31/08/2024 22:00

Need a little rant. I work on a Saturday so DH took Dd into town and bought her new wellies as old ones looking abit worse for wear. He reads her current shoe size which is a 9 upside down and has he trying on size sevens! Then he comes away with new wellies that are a size 9, which I know she’s going to grow out of in afew weeks as she’s been that size for ages and her size 9 trainers are now too tight. Aibu to think this is just a whole new level of uselessness they I don’t havr patience for after a long day. Arghh.

OP posts:
SouthLondonMum22 · 31/08/2024 22:53

Can he just take them back for a 10?

BeaRF75 · 31/08/2024 22:54

Why do you think you know better, OP? He bought her wellies that fit. They're not expensive - she can have new ones when she needs them. Why do some women always assume they know better? And then seem surprised when their male partners decide not to bother any more.....

Barbarararara · 31/08/2024 22:50

How is it useless to buy wellies that fit?

Reading 6 as a 9 is incompetence. Tries on a 7 showing understanding of idea of buying a size up. He fucked up.

Because he's of course totally incompetent and clearly wants his child to SUFFER!!

He tried on the 9s in the shop though! He’s not assuming anything, even the OP says they fit. She just thinks she psychic and knows exactly when her child’s feet will grow.

MiniCooperLover · 31/08/2024 23:03

Welly sizes don't follow shoe sizes faithfully, they're massive in comparison.. they'll last ages.

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 31/08/2024 23:05

Almost as irritating as “abit” and “afew”……..

Did you miss the part of the op where it says she’s grown out of her size 9 trainers?

Reading 6 as a 9 is simply a mistake. He then recognised he'd make a mistake and corrected it. That's what parents do.

Neodymium · 31/08/2024 23:17

he obviously knew that he should go a size up when he read it as a 6 and got her to try a 7 🙄. I would be annoyed too kids feet grow so quick even when you get them fitted they tell you to go up a half or a size. I’ve never bought my kids shoes that exactly fit you always have at least the thumb distance from the big toe to the end.

It sounds like she tried on a 6 that didn't fit so he tried a 7 which didn't fit and then he realised it wasn't a 6 but a 9 so tried a 9 and fit

Neodymium · 31/08/2024 23:18

And all the pp defending him. This is just weaponised incompetence. Doing something so badly that you don’t get asked to do it again as it creates more work or costs more money.

Have you measured the wellies this bloke bought to see how much spare room there is for growth?

Maybe you should get therapy.
OP says the wellies fit but thinks dd will grows out of them within weeks.
He got his kid shoes that fit. That is not incompetence 'weaponised' or otherwise.

Sure. He did this job so badly by going out and buying footwear for his child that fits her feet. What an absolute bastard.

No the op said he read the number 6 and then got her to try a 7. He knew to go up a size. She didn’t try on a 6.

there is a big difference between a shoe fitting exactly and a shoe with space for the child to grow. My son currently wears a size 7 in men’s they fit him exactly. He’s had them for about 6 months already. Once his feet grow abit more they will not fit him. If I bought him new shoes today I would not buy a 7. Yes they would fit him right now. But have no space to grow.

I can’t believe the amount of people who have no idea how to buy children’s shoes.

HowardTJMoon · 31/08/2024 23:15

The mistake wasn’t corrected. The mistake was reading the wrong number. Reading 6 and trying on a 7 is not a mistake, reading 9 and trying a 10 would follow the same logic. As I said only OP can tell if this type of carelessness happens often.

🙄🙄 maybe you should. You either don’t have children or you are someone who is also incompetent and useless and couldn’t be trusted to buy a pair of shoes for a child because you have no idea.

the op will have to go out and buy new shoes in a few weeks.

there is a difference between children’s shoes that fit and children’s shoes with space for them to grow. Any person who has ever purchased shoes for a child knows this.

HowardTJMoon · 31/08/2024 23:43

Of course he corrected his mistake. He didn't come back with size 6, did he? Or even size 7. He came back with wellies that fit his daughter's feet.

I know that there is often an intrinsic assumption on Mumsnet that if a father does something in a way that is not identical to how the mother thinks it should be done then he is not just fundamentally wrong, but he's doing it wrong on purpose because he's a gaslighting narcissistic abuser. But maybe, just maybe, that's not always the case.

I have children and amazingly they have shoes that fit! Shocking I know!

Unlike you and OP I'm not the Mystic Meg of foot growth but have managed to keep children in the right size shoes without having to buy new ones within weeks.

HowardTJMoon · 31/08/2024 23:47

The hyperbole is amazing. A man buys footwear that doesn't have quite as much extra space as a woman thinks they should. And that, apparently, makes him "incompetent and useless". Judgemental much?

He should know that in precisely 3 weeks his daughter will have gone up a size apparently.

Of course, if he had come back with size 10 wellies he'd be called incompetent and useless because they're falling off her feet. He'd have done it on purpose, too, as a cruelly calculated act of weaponised incompetence.
