How would you feel, if your DH bought you a bib?

He bought me an adult pelican bib! He thinks it's hilarious.

It says on it "if you can read this, I haven't had my dinner yet". I do drop food on myself, fair enough, but I just think this isn't funny.

And, given that I'm never going to wear it, a total waste of time, because to send it back, he has to parcel it back up and drive some distance to a post office, because we don't have a post office in our town.

I don't know if my sense of humour is lacking, but I feel offended. Maybe that's too strong a word, I don't know, maybe belittled or like he's thinking I'm not sexy, if that makes sense? Maybe I need to lighten up!

YABU - lighten up, it's just a joke

YANBU - I wouldn't like that either

I had enough of the ‘funny’ jokes, the “oh just lighten up I was only having a laugh” jokes that were about my weight (I’m not THAT fat, just a little over) or my housekeeping (I never stop cleaning up after him and his kids…) so now whenever he makes one of those hilarious jokes, I fire one back about his thinning hair or his greys or his lack of weight. He looks hurt when I make these hilarious jokes, then the penny for him drops.
shove the bib up his arse, then make a joke about his piles 😊

Diva66 · 29/08/2024 18:43

I’d be unsurprised. I can’t use my left hand so eating can get messy.

Fiery30 · 29/08/2024 18:44

It depends on the nature of your relationship. If you keep dropping food, then a bib is actually quite a practical gift. Surely you don't want your top or nightsuit to be stained and dirty before going to bed? What exactly is upsetting you about it? You mentioned not having sex, that's a completely different issue. Are you sexually frustrated and therefore find every action of your husband irritating? It's quite possible. If that is the reason, then you need to address that first.

funnyoldonion · 29/08/2024 18:46

I wouldn’t like it but not half as much as I don’t like seeing grown adults spill food on themselves - just ick

Growlybear83 · 29/08/2024 18:46

I would think it was funny and would wear it. I can remember a couple of rib restaurants that we used to go to many years ago in central London where the waiting staff tied a bib on you as soon as you sat down - it saved so many ruined clothes.

Wellthatsjustfuckingpeachyinnit · 29/08/2024 18:48

My wife has just said "just burn it along with his favourite shirt" and frankly I cant think of a better response.........😂

TheShellBeach · 29/08/2024 18:52

You don't need to go to the post office to send things back. They'll come and collect things from your house.
We live in a remote area, too.

Btb · 29/08/2024 18:54

Take it as a joke my husband got me one as I’m always spilling stuff down me I use it all the time now lol and I’ll even ask him to pass me my bib lol 😂 it’s a joke and I never have crap down my clothes now 🤣 brilliant thing 🤣

@Bibblunders

is it gold plated or something? How much was it that you've even considered returning it

you know he intended it as a joke (&it is quite funny!)

just put it in a bag to take to the charity shop or put it in the bin.

I am big chested and it's rare I get through the day without dropping/spilling/dripping stuff on me. It's worse when I eat out & try not to. I'm a magnet for mess. I'd find it funny if someone bought it for me.

If you don't feel sexy, do something about that, don't blame this joke.

MrsDoof · 29/08/2024 19:03

Yeah I don’t think this is funny and my husband and I take the piss out of each other frequently. Similar to you I always spill food on myself and he always laughs at me, particularly if I’m wearing white, I laugh too, it’s lighthearted ribbing and we do it a lottt and both of us enjoy having a little laugh at/with each other.
What tour husband has does though takes too much extra effort and time for it to be funny though. Like my husband could laugh and say “you need a bib!” and I’d laugh too - but if then a week later a bib arrived and he presented it to me it wouldn’t be funny, it’s just a bit too much effort/time/money to go into taking a joke too far and it’s just a waste.
Honestly we take the piss out of each other so much, but this would really get me annoyed and I wouldn’t feel happy at all.

Bibblunders · 29/08/2024 08:13

Okay fair enough. It was definitely a joke, that I do know. I just felt mildly irritated by it. It's maybe a bit deep seated in me, we haven't had much sex lately, and this just made me feel a bit shit.

Yeah that's the real issue.
Don't waste Ur energy wondering if he finds u sexy or not. Just get on with Ur life and don't make Ur happiness depend on him.

Linti · 29/08/2024 19:04

My husband bought me a husky fleece, U know the ones with giant dog prints on it. He genuinely thought I would wear it. He was all like ' you like dogs and Ur always cold'. Fair point I wear it at home but out and about!!! Xx

Doubledenim305 · 29/08/2024 19:04

PS everyone spills food down themselves. It's just annoying because u need to change Ur top after it. I don't see how it could offend anyone.

bananamum13 · 29/08/2024 19:08

I'd laugh - I often spill stuff when I'm eating!!

Horses7 · 29/08/2024 19:09

I’d wear it ALL the time, especially in bed 🤣

Fedupandstressed · 29/08/2024 19:09

I need one of these. It's a running joke how my boobage (only singular now 😢) stops the food ending up on the floor. And I have many ruined tops now.

Also OP, the post office/Royal Mail pick up now. For free.

Ihopeithinkiknow · 29/08/2024 19:09

Always the same on here, "he is being passive aggressive" or "showing his true colours" or "he is telling you that he finds you repulsive" it's like having poison dripped into your ear to turn you against your husband or something. Congratulations to the perfect people who never drop food down their tops lol. You know you drop food down your top OP and I do too lol it seems to be a special skill of mine but if my partner/husband bought me a bib it would make me laugh because I drop food on my top sometimes and have said before "fuck sake I need a bib" lol I don't think your husband bought you this because he is repulsed by you though but it does sound like you have taken it that way and that's fair enough especially if you are feeling like he doesn't find you sexy or whatever. I reckon it must be because of our big boobs though lol but judging by some of the replies on here you must have something seriously wrong with you if you are dropping food as an adult lol

Hecatoncheires · 29/08/2024 19:14

Personally, I would laugh as I pretty much without fail drop food down my front. Even when sitting at the dining table and eating with cutlery perfectly nicely. It’s due to a combination of huge bosom and dodgy eyesight. So I’d wear the bib at home in the spirit of fun with which it was intended. But that’s my and my DH’s dynamic. Only you can know if there was fun or mocking behind your DH’s bib gift.

ThePoshUns · 29/08/2024 19:15

Where can I get one from? I'm the messiest eater I know.

TaterTots68 · 29/08/2024 19:25

I think it depends on the person giving the 'gift'. If my DH did this, it would make me laugh because it would be given as a joke and with no malice intended. However if you feel it's a sly dog and he's often passive aggressive or making digs, you are probably right to be offended

funnyoldonion · 29/08/2024 19:29

Tbf a bib wouldn’t make a difference to my family it would still be all over their trousers

supersop60 · 29/08/2024 19:29

Josephinesnapoleon · 29/08/2024 08:16

I’m not sure why you keep refering it to sex. I don’t see the link. If you keep dropping food on yourself it is something to look at as that’s not normal. And bib or not, he will react to that. It would need to be fairly major if you think it’s enough to put him off sex.

I'm guessing that the OP already feels a bit shit (rejected?) by the lack of sex, and this unfunny joke at her expense makes her feel unloved.

AcrossthePond55 · 29/08/2024 19:33

I guess it depends. DH and I are also 'TV eaters', retired and CBA to set the table I guess. I have an 'off and on' slight tremor in my hands & lower arms that happens without warning and can affect how steadily I hold my cutlery. I'm rather large bosomed and there are occasional unexpected drips or drops. If DH bought me a bib as a joke I probably wouldn't find it funny as I'm a little sensitive about it. But if he bought me one because he seriously thought he was being helpful, then I'd put it down to 'caring' and I'd be fine with it.

I wouldn't be having sex for a while.
