suburberphobe · 27/08/2024 23:03

hardly Bowie, The Stones or The Beatles are they?!

Well said. I could add Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley too.

Thanks for sharing! Things I'm not that arsed about include Jane Austen, beaches and most pasta dishes.

Just snorted

Pasta is so shit

I'm torn. My DCs are fans & I feel they are being exploited. They were big in my day but not THAT big... Pulp, Blur, Madonna, MJ, loads of other people were big. Liam Gallagher has 4 kids, 2 daughters he's barely met. Not sure he's capable of sustaining long term attachments or relationships, but maybe there's a lesson in there for my kids. I dunno!

You mention MJ but then have a problem with Liam Gallagher. I mean I know he's not been father of the year, but compared to MJ, fucking hell.

I like Oasis but dear god, am I sick to fucking death of the same repetitive hilarious headlines ...

Before today: oooh Oasis reunion, definitely maybe, ha ha fucking ha ha geddit, definitely maybe, ain't that slick and funny or what?

No. It's in every newspaper on the planet. It's probably in the Trumpton Parish Newsletter. Fuck off.

God knows what today's is. I daren't look. Mad for it? Roll with it?

Definitely

SoundsBetterTogether · 27/08/2024 23:19

Also, if we start not liking music from artists who have cheated or been bad parents or whatever, there won't be much to listen to. I won't listen to music from paedos, but as much as I hate affairs and shit parents, that stuff isn't my business.

TheCultureHusks · 27/08/2024 23:21

Doltontweedle · 27/08/2024 19:27

You don’t care about them so much you’ve started a thread on a public forum so you can talk about them?

Yeah! Go for it OP. This is quixotic stuff ⚡️

suburberphobe · 27/08/2024 23:03

hardly Bowie, The Stones or The Beatles are they?!

Well said. I could add Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley too.

And I'll add Taylor Swift on to that.

How many more people shall we all add on that we think are better than Oasis?????

Only really cool edgy responses allowed folks. Got to keep up that Music Snob image. 😆

Happiestwhen · 27/08/2024 20:46

Ugh horrible, rude men and terrible music too. They don't appreciate their fans one bit. And they don't deserve any loyalty, they're only in it for the money.

no, that was Supergrass

SoundsBetterTogether · 27/08/2024 23:35

Supergrass! I'd forgotten all about them.

LoveRosesClimbing · 27/08/2024 23:37

I have no idea why the BBC are giving such prominence to Oasis reforming. Ugh.

The Smiths. 😆 Oh my god, The Smiths are the worst, most boring, dreary, band of them all - and Morrissey is an A star knob head. Talentless, boring, physically unattractive, and a SHIT SINGER. Not a single person I know can stand the sight of him. 99% of posters on this forum couldn't name more than two hits by The Smiths!

The cheek of YOU bashing Oasis. with daft comments like 'it's the weird green stuff you stick flowers' and 'it's a pond in the desert' or 'it's a shop' and then go on to say you like the Smiths. 😂

I think that's probably the funniest most hilarious comment on here. The Smiths are absolute crap. Catch yourself on!

I bloody love the Smiths. It's one of the joys of my life that my teen DD is into them now so they're always on at full blast! Just goes to show tastes are different and I don't begrudge anyone their love of Oasis (but they do have a wanky marketing-speak name and I stand by that). The Smiths are a lot more interesting musically but I concede Oasis have some good songs. Half The World Away is a great song.

As for why start the thread, because everyone is wanging on about it in an irritating fashion (and yes all the "definitely maybe" news reports, wink wink see what we did there!? arggh fuck off!) - and it's satisfying to have a moan about it for those of us who have better different tastes.

MrsWhattery · 27/08/2024 23:51

I admit Morrissey is a twat but Marr is a guitar god. I have also seen Marr live on his own and he was brilliant.

HRTQueen · 27/08/2024 23:56

I can cope with the news as I can switch it off

what I can’t switch off though tempted to block for a few days is my friend who is ‘mad for it’ that they are touring again

she isn’t even from Manchester

Solonga · 27/08/2024 19:32

We are not going to hear the end of it, it will be like Taylor Swift again

Oasis were on a completely different level to Taylor Swift.

Unless you actually follow Swift you never hear of her (I don't), it was impossible not to hear about Oasis regardless of whether you followed them. There have been much bigger bands than them (The Rolling Stones, Queen, Pink Floyd etc.) but not since The Beatles has a band taken over the mainstream as they did.

In terms of publicity they were on the level of Princess Diana and the Spice Girls.

Eldrick47s · 28/08/2024 01:01

With "Wonderwall" they achieved which she and her team of songwriters has yet to achieve and that's have a famous song.

Pet Shop Boys singer Neil Tennant says Taylor Swift doesn’t have any ‘famous songs’

https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/pet-shop-boys-taylor-swift-disappointing-b2534588.html

She also doesn't feature in the top 100 most recognisable songs in a public poll (Oasis at #55) which has 6.5 million views.

TempestTost · 28/08/2024 01:04

I don't think Oasis would have been nearly as popular had they not appeared during the grange period when a lot of pop music was pretty boring and shit.

RedToothBrush · 28/08/2024 01:09

This is like the reverse of saying you don't believe in fairies.

Every time you start a thread about Oasis you make someone else remember how much they liked Oasis and that actually they might well try and get tickets.

So instead of killing a fairy you create a new Oasis fan through Streisanding.

It's kinda epic.

Who needs to spend money on advertising when youve got a bunch of people on MN whinging about Oasis?

Saschka · 28/08/2024 01:10

Lostinbrum · 27/08/2024 19:42

Blur were better

Even Shed 7 were better! I’ll grant you Cast were probably worse.

When’s the Ocean Colour Scene and Kula Shaker revival happening?

Having a foreign (and misery riddled) genre you detested definitely helped spur on the Britpop acts.

There were no British grunge bands (of any note) so there was a backlash against it. Oasis and Blur then fed off each other (nothing like a rivalry to generate publicity) and both became massive. They also filled a void, in fact right now there is a void with current music being terrible so older bands are elevated.

QueenMegan · 28/08/2024 01:44

I saw them live they or rather Liam was an utter prat. Couldn't sing and I think he was booed off.
Noel and Paul Weller were amazing.
I'd not cross the road to see them

I was supposed to see Cast at the student union, but went down with an ear infection severe enough that I couldn’t walk straight. Possibly the swerve of that year.

Gutted I missed out on Pulp the year before though.

DogsAtDawn · 28/08/2024 03:09

I don't care for them. Never did. The fact that the BBC has gone into meltdown over it is what is ridiculous. It's 3am and four of the stories are about this reunion and several have already bee and gone. Isn't that a bit much for the reunion of a mediocre old pop group.
