😂

We help run an annual event locally. There is talk of moving the dates due to Heaton Park and there being no one available to help run the event.

So I think complaints about TV coverage don't know the half of it!

This is like the reverse of saying you don't believe in fairies.

Every time you start a thread about Oasis you make someone else remember how much they liked Oasis and that actually they might well try and get tickets.

So instead of killing a fairy you create a new Oasis fan through Streisanding.

It's kinda epic.

Who needs to spend money on advertising when youve got a bunch of people on MN whinging about Oasis?

😆

Oasis were on a completely different level to Taylor Swift.

Unless you actually follow Swift you never hear of her (I don't), it was impossible not to hear about Oasis regardless of whether you followed them. There have been much bigger bands than them (The Rolling Stones, Queen, Pink Floyd etc.) but not since The Beatles has a band taken over the mainstream as they did.

In terms of publicity they were on the level of Princess Diana and the Spice Girls.

Now I like Oasis a lot right enough, but I'm not going to agree that they're on a 'different level' to Taylor Swift. (ie; more superior.) I think she's equally as good, as amazing, and as epic as Oasis are. You're entitled to disagree. Of course.

Taylor Swift and Oasis are both brilliant. For different reasons. But I can't agree that Oasis are better than Taylor, they're just different, and are both are legends in their own time IMO. It's possible to love 2 totally different acts.

The ' I'm getting my arse handed to me after starting stupid thread" retort!

Johnny Marr is friends with Pet Shop Boys, Brandon Flowers and…Noel.
He publicly blasted Donald Trump for using his music
He’s known to be a supporter of unknown young bands, even lending a skint Oasis a guitar back in their early days.
He worked on an Oscar winning Bond theme with Billie Eilish and with the late great Kirsty MacColl.
Know who he’s not friends with? Morrissey.
So I’m prepared to trust his judgement on the Gallaghers.

At least it makes a change from learning how many people have died in Lebanon today or hearing that some kid got stabbed or some mosque or synagogue got torched.

It's a bit of nostalgia for a lot of people. That's all.

ssd · 28/08/2024 20:43

It wasn't on the news tonight, good!

Im not fussed about their reunion either. But I havent been bothered at all by the media going on about it. Its as simple as switching off or to a different channel etc. Do something else.
Oasis is the medias current obsessive topic, they will move onto something else in a day or so.
Starting a thread to moan about the media going on about it is the opposite of wanting to avoid the topic.

Don't worry, they'll be in the news a lot for the next year, particularly when they're touring a lot! And they'll be mentioned a lot by fans on here as well. You might want to hibernate until the end of 2025. 😂

ssd · 28/08/2024 21:37

I'm sure I'll manage to avoid them if it gets too annoying 😊

I feel a bit sorry for their old drummer mentioned in the papers who isn't rich at all and seems to have been overlooked when the big money rolled in. (I didn't read it all , so no idea why he isn't a millionaire like the others)
It's a brutal game the music industry.

Appalonia · 28/08/2024 23:11

I wonder if all the Oasis tribute bands will now be reforming...?!😂😂😂

'Mammies on MN'

Hahaha😂😂😂

Appalonia · 29/08/2024 00:14

The main thing I've learnt recently about all this hoopla is how many, many songs they'd ripped.off and got sued for. This one, Whatever, is a classic example ( which is especially funny as this singer was part of a spoof band of The Beatles , The Rutles ) 😂

Lonelycrab · 29/08/2024 00:21

This is hardly headline news but apparently it is.

The fact they won’t be recording any new material <—- lazy bastards

Id be similarly excited by a reunion of the spice girls. Ie not much.

PuzzledParrott · 29/08/2024 00:46

I DON’T LIKE A BAND SO NO-ONE ELSE SHOULD LIKE THEM OR BE EXCITED ABOUT THEM

toys out

Lonelycrab · 29/08/2024 01:17

Hardly toys out to observe that a couple of washed up Beatles rip offs are going to come out the woodwork to sing a bunch of ancient tunes.

Go for it if it floats your boat.

They are hardly 'washed up' if it's going to be the biggest music event in the UK in 2025.

Odd how people insist on saying that.

By all accounts, despite my own initial expectations, there's also a new album in the works. Which again might dispell comments about being 'lazy'. It's also liable to sell incredibly well (even if it's shocking).

It's likely to be passable though. Liam and Noel have continued to make albums independently which have done well and the critics have tried hard to dislike but begrudgingly have not been able to completely pan.
