Sainsburys Toilets

I have no words to describe the toilets in Sainsbury's.
I walked in and the smell was disgusting, I try to avoid but in general I think why shouldn't a big Supermarket have clean toilets! So maybe every other month or at stations I use public toilets.
Anyway I walk into the 2nd cubicle surprised there is only two for a large store in a small popular city..
The toilet was clean I suppose but to the corner of my eye I couldn't help but see the open toilet brush and it was stuff out of nightmares. 😫
I was almost in shock and after 10 seconds thought no I can't use the toilet.
I wasn't quite at the absolutely desperate stage. But even so the fucking smell!!!
Afterwards I could barely walk round the store to get the minimum I needed.
Yuk yuk 😷 🤢 🤮
SAINSBURY'S toilets need burning down. The taps to the toilets to the doors going into. Gross.

Publicly shaming Asda Bournemouth toilets here (next to the train station). Last time I visited a few months ago I had to hold my breath and do a 'racehorse piss' and legged it out of there. retched multiple times on the way out - some other customers saw me and avoided the toilets...

Worse thing is there is a McDonalds Uber pickup hatch down the same corridor that leads to the toilets....

HighlandCow78 · 26/08/2024 00:17

Write a complaint letter to the Sainsbury’s branch in question. Moaning about it on MN is a) pointless and b) immature.

FWIW both of our local branches always have perfectly clean and well maintained toilets.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 26/08/2024 00:24

Did you complain to customer services about the toilets ?

I don't know why supermarkets bother having public toilets, they don't need to - unless there is a restaurant too and by that I mean restaurant that is actually serving food during the hours the toilet is open.

LucasNorth1 · 26/08/2024 02:04

you only have your fellow humans that are responsible

LucasNorth1 · 26/08/2024 02:05

people need better manners

Sweetteaplease · 26/08/2024 02:07

People are disgusting, they should start having cameras outside and people checking them tbh. My supermarket has a sign telling people that it is unfair to mess them up and for the cleaner have to clean Filthy toilets and for people to clean up after themselves! I dread taking my young DC to public toilets

YourHangryQuail · 26/08/2024 02:08

I complained at Park Royal Asda toilets. They had no toilet seats in the women’s toilets. No toilet roll. I ended up using the baby change that had a toilet in there

PoopedAndScooped · 26/08/2024 02:08

I presume you raised the issue with the store?

Lentilpasta · 26/08/2024 02:13

I very rarely use public toilets. Don’t think I’ve used a supermarket toilet since I was a teen. Last time I did was at a local coffee shop a few weeks ago and the month before that was a bookshop cafe and pizza express. I find cafes , restaurants etc tend to make more of an effort to keep toilets clean.

Sometimes the toilets in my work are disgusting though! I’m so glad I work from home 95% of the time 🤨

Edingril · 26/08/2024 02:21

It is not the supermarkets fault but the customers

I think should get rid of them if people can't be bothered to use common-sense and think of the next person

MsYamada · 26/08/2024 02:34

The ones I've been in are grim. They really smell even when they aren't 'out of order'.

MsYamada · 26/08/2024 02:35

It's not the customers. It's the toilets not being fit for purpose, inadequate drains, sinks etc.

longlocks · 26/08/2024 06:03

Some people don’t know how to use a toilet properly. They don’t flush after used - I knew this concept aged 3.

Then get people who poo on the toilet seat (seen this myself)

If you drop loo roll in the toilets, please pick it up. You don’t need to use that loo roll to wipe your bum with this paper. I doubt that people who accidentally drop loo roll on the floor have loo roll all over the floor in their bathrooms.

longlocks · 26/08/2024 06:10

MsYamada · 26/08/2024 02:35

It's not the customers. It's the toilets not being fit for purpose, inadequate drains, sinks etc.

Exactly. Your toilets at home are probably used 4 times a day per person if you are out most of the day. Then probably double that if at home all day.

Supermarket toilets are used about 15-18 times an hour - so about 200 times in a 15 hour trade day (7am-10pm).

So a supermarket toilet is used ten times more frequently than a toilet at home.

Plus the older people produce stronger smelling wee adds to the stinking

Bulkypeepants · 26/08/2024 06:33

The Sainsbury's where I used to live I had those horrible blue lights in the toilet so you couldn't see anything (is this to stop junkies from injecting? I was never sure).

Where I now live the Sainsbury's has a security guard that is a six-foot-something man that wears women's clothes and feels he can use the women's toilet so it's another one to avoid

StrawberriesandMango · 26/08/2024 06:37

My local large M&S has a row of about 10 toilets. The last cubicle which is at the very bottom is a slightly larger cubicle which is for parents and prams. This cubicle is so I can change my child's nappy and also pee myself or bring the pram into the cubicle so child's safe with me. It has a parent and pram/ child picture on it.

So why every single time I go to use it I'm waiting outside the door for ages and lo and behold an elderly women comes out alone every single time after taking a shit. Loads of empty cubicles but no they want that one. I have to walk away in disgust at the smell. Happens Everytime

SusannaSpider · 26/08/2024 06:47

All our local ones are fine, not sure I've ever seen a grim Sainsbury's toilet.
I tend to avoid Asda loos (but Asda seems to have become filthy in general). And one particular Morrisons which has closed down now.

I worked as a supermarket cleaner when I was a student, you wouldn't believe how filthy some people can be and I hate urinals - they always stink of piss and the floors get sticky infront of them as men shake off the drips or just have bad aim.

Worst toilets ever are the ones in 5 Guys in Liverpool One , unisex and piss everywhere. Never been in there again.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/08/2024 07:42

Caffè Nero toilets are the worst!

LlynTegid · 26/08/2024 07:57

It is other customers, though you should complain to the store, let them know about the vile people who have been there before you.

For anyone with conditions that mean a toilet is needed at no or almost no notice, such disgusting conditions may mean they avoid a place altogether or in some cases, don't go out. I remember during 2020 a question at a Covid press conference about access to toilets- Matt Hancock was dismissive about the valid concerns raised.

Justleaveitblankthen · 26/08/2024 08:29

My Tesco Extra was the same. It was so constant I was sure a staff member had a serious health issue. 🤢
I try to keep my brews' on the small side on a shopping day now ☕

Tomatina · 26/08/2024 08:46

Mama2many73 · 25/08/2024 23:34

Our Tesco was great until they introduced the stupid 'all in one' soap/wash/dry units. Absolutely hate them!

I loathe these too. Sometimes there is a button thing for the water which is more or less hidden, so you end up with soap on your hands and nothing to rinse it off with. And then the dryer bit comes on without being asked. Absolutely crazy, just give us hot and cold taps and some soap FFS!

ErnestClementine · 26/08/2024 08:50

The ones in my local sainsburys are vile. And only cold water to wash hands with <boak>.

Duckyfondant · 26/08/2024 08:52

I think they keep them gross on purpose. My old local Morrisons toilets had blue lights for drug use prevention

jen337 · 26/08/2024 08:54

Aquarius1234 · 25/08/2024 23:18

M&S in the clothes department have a nasty smell but in a different way.
Some restaurants that have unisex toilets are disgusting. Five Guys ewwwwwwe
Often nice little proper restaurants massively let themselves down with a disgusting small toilet. Can ruin the whole evening.
It's the wee over the seat and floor that's horrible.
It would be better to have public toilets outside the shops in stone buildings with windows and proper cleaners.
Sainsburys are dire at never updating stores.
