Has the left now met the right, shaken hands with it then stuck 2 fingers up at the general population?

Womens rights are an area the globe seems to struggle with. Afghanistan has decided women must be covered head to toe, including hands, in thick black fabric and cannot be allowed near men. Australia has decided men must be allowed in women's spaces or face being taken to court for large sums of money, making it all but illegal now to have women only spaces there. Why does the world hate women so much?

As Colin Wright put it...

Oh yes, this really.

Flibflobflibflob · 24/08/2024 08:04

I grew up during the 80’s and 90’s, it was so positive, women were making gains in so many areas, it felt like feminism had won. It feels like weve gone backwards but worse.

SensibleSigma · 24/08/2024 08:07

Yep. I’m sure it’s been pointed out already, but men need something from us that they can’t get elsewhere or do without. It’s fundamental to their survival that they control access to us as a resource. We can’t be allowed autonomy. I mean, it’s probably deeply hidden in their subconscious but that fundamental need to feel in control seems pretty ingrained. They seem to need to consciously restructure themselves to accommodate women as autonomous beings.

Flibflobflibflob · 24/08/2024 08:08

Afghanistan though, women can’t even speak loudly in their own homes in case a man outside hears her. Just WTF. I think we should have an open door asylum policy for afghan women.

They'd only end up sending for their husbands and we'd be lumbered with them.

TheKeatingFive · 24/08/2024 08:25

This.

You're absolutely right OP. Just two sides of the same misogynist coin.

I’d happily send every afghan man back and exchange for the women. I’m sorry but I really struggle to give a fuck about men these days, they are often either ignoring or enabling the subjugation of women. 87% of afghan women and girls experience domestic abuse.

Demonhunter · 24/08/2024 09:04

The men who hate women I think have an envy, whether conscious or unconscious, that women can do one thing that they NEVER can - bring new life into the world. They can equal and even potentially surpass women in every aspect of life, but the one thing they can't do is bear children and they hate that, that there is something that is 100% impossible for them to achieve above women.

EasternStandard · 24/08/2024 09:06

Reading more about Afghanistan and also the Aus case I agree with you op

Both male ideologies that are dangerous to women

They use various parts of society to propagate the harm

Flibflobflibflob · 24/08/2024 09:08

That Germanine Greer quote about women not knowing how much men hate them is really starting to ring true.

Same.

We have gone backwards...thanks to the likes of Tate and all his misogynistic followers.

It’s not just Tate is it, it’s all the the incel types, people supporting gender ideology, people encouraging conservative religious practices, our courts don’t seem to be able to jail people for crimes against women and children (plenty of men have been freed despite having vast amounts of CSE material).

It’s fucking appalling. I’m not sure if I’m depressed or furious.

Flibflobflibflob · 24/08/2024 09:24

Is the afghan embassy still there? It’s a shame I’ll be out of the country for a while otherwise I would have stood outside and talked LOUDLY for a few hours. Fucking bastards.

Soloadventurer · 24/08/2024 09:26

How did the TRA and incel movements gain momentum? What was the catalyst? I feel like it was a 4chan prank that got out of hand.

Colin Wright's 2024 update seems to fit your thread title OP

Has the left now met the right, shaken hands with it then stuck 2 fingers up at the general population?
Flibflobflibflob · 24/08/2024 09:35

I think it’s the weaponisation of victim narratives. Incels claim they are the victims of women, TRA’s claim they are victims of women (ha ha ha) religious conservatives claim they are victims of racism or in the case of harrassing women outside abortion clinics “thought policing”. All of them have borrowed the mantle of victimhood whilst happily victimising mainly women. People don’t tend to have as much sympathy for incels as they are seen as sadsacks.

The rest take a grain of truth and our politicians and media fall over themselves to make sure they are on the right side of history. After all you are protecting a minority aren’t you.

Even in the case of afghanistan, many people (including me) felt uncomfortable with what felt like the continuing occupation of a country. Leaving felt like the right thing to do. It felt colonialist didn’t it. I didn’t realise they would sink to such barbarity, more fool me.

Legislation in the case of TRAs

We legislated fiction and every year it builds against women

Flibflobflibflob · 24/08/2024 09:39

Theres a guy called ali dawah who did a joint youtube video with his wife. His wife was wearing the niqab and she wrote down her answers on a whiteboard so no-one would hear her voice. This is not confined to afghanistan.

Helpimfalling · 24/08/2024 09:40

Personally as someone who covers (not on par with Afghan woman) just for me.

I feel safer that way from all these shitty men and protected.

I know I shouldn't have to feel safe from half the worlds population but it is what it is.
This is where we are in the world right now.
I'm not saying we should all Don cloaks far from it but short of killing all the men what can I do?

People are now starting to understand why I won't get changed now in public spaces where any gender is welcome sadly.

Read Vox by Christina Dalcher. Then read about what is happening to Christina Dalcher.
The Handmaid's Tale, (Margaret Attwood) written in the 80s was based on Afghanistan.

SamuelDJackson · 24/08/2024 09:54

Horseshoe theory in action
The only disagreement between the extreme left/liberal men and the extreme conservative/religious men is where to place the boot. Both sides are authoritatian and agree that women are a lesser species that men have the right to control and use as resources.

It’s shit isn’t it, you shouldn’t feel that way, no woman should feel that way.

No idea who the quote is from, but …

Far right and far left = two cheeks of the same arse

FOJN · 24/08/2024 10:02

Right wing misogyny = women are the private property of one man they are supposed to serve.

Left wing misogyny = women are public property who must always sacrifice full personhood for the greater good.
