Has the left now met the right, shaken hands with it then stuck 2 fingers up at the general population?

Womens rights are an area the globe seems to struggle with. Afghanistan has decided women must be covered head to toe, including hands, in thick black fabric and cannot be allowed near men. Australia has decided men must be allowed in women's spaces or face being taken to court for large sums of money, making it all but illegal now to have women only spaces there. Why does the world hate women so much?

flymetoalphacentauri · 23/08/2024 19:39

We've always been hated because most men are psychologically weak and insecure. They make themselves feel better by dominating others ie women and children.

TheSkyRaisin · 23/08/2024 19:40

Yes, different means of expression but misogyny is more fashionable than ever. It's truly depressing.

ilovesooty · 23/08/2024 19:41

I don't see what your thread title has to do with your OP.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/08/2024 19:42

Now? 'Twas ever thus, though it's particularly stark at the moment.

Really? One is the actions of an ultra conservative regime the other a court ruling on a far left ideology. Both aligning on the topic of misogyny.

I get what you mean more re the thread title

It is very depressing and I'd like to see political change to overturn where we are

Hm, tbf they've only stuck their fingers up at half of the general population.

ATenShun · 23/08/2024 20:41

Neither of your examples (assuming you are talking about todays judgement in Oz about a transexual and use of an app) are about political leaning or representative of the majority of Western men.

How many men do you know that expect a woman to be covered head to toe? How many men really couldn't care less is if women had a chat app that allowed them access only. In the same way the majority of the population wouldn't care if a transexual had an app where only he/she could access.

The thing is that it’s not the majority of men but a vocal minority who have gained power in both the OP’s examples. And the majority of men are silent about it because women’s rights are not a priority to them.

Has the left now met the right

There's a quote from the TV show Years and Years along the lines of "you go far right, you go far left, eventually you meet in the middle".

How many UK Women are now contacting the Afghan embassy or Australian parliament about the situation?

Rightly or wrongly, part of the current nonsense of TS in the personal space of either sex/gender or recognising somebody whatever they tell us they are, is partially the fallout from earlier Women's rights activism. The restricted times at golf clubs (now outlawed) is a good example, as is the private gentlemans club that was in the news recently.

I see no issue in certain clubs or times being sex or age only. Neither does the majority of the population, male or female. We all should have the freedom to have our own spaces with likeminded individuals.

I see. So it is women’s fault that men want to invade our safe spaces.
Thanks so much for informing me.
If we had just stayed quiet about discrimination all would have been fine.

Not the fault of Women. The fault of a small noisy minority that wanted only their own version of equality to be the law.

Summerhillsquare · 23/08/2024 21:39

To answer your thread question, not really. Misogyny is still endemic, and sexists come in all religions, colours and nationalities as well as voting patterns, but women generally have more rights and responsibilities under left leaning or centrist governments.

In what way does "being female" mean my mind is like another female person's?

I agree that women should have single-sex spaces, but not on the basis that women supposedly agree on things!

OK let me change that for you. We should all have the freedom to be in a space where only our own sex/gender can access. Either entirely or on a timed basis.

soupycustard · 23/08/2024 21:56

Yep, yanbu.
There is pretty much nothing to choose between incels, TRAs and their 'bekind' handmaidens, and the most regressive interpretations of religion.
My only issue with what you've said is the use of 'left' and 'right'. There seems to me to be nothing remotely left wing about a bunch of middle class rich white men bankrolling the decimation of women's rights. Just as it doesn't seem to me specifically 'right wing' to state biological facts and fight for female equality.
It's all smoke and mirrors. Rich men and global corporations have to pretend that they're not desecrating the planet and social justice. The easiest way currently to do that is obviously not to stop their behaviours (imagine if sweatshops, and zero hrs contracts, and taxpayer underwriting of rampant destructive capitalism didn't exist - they wouldn't be half as rich) but to witter on about the social justice of centering the rights of men. Boxes ticked, and the rights of pesky women taken away. Marvelous.

No, not gender! Only sex. That's been the problem!

Annoying quote, 😆

The Left get very upset if you dare to criticise these extremist Right Wing Anti Woman religions/ideologies...because being Anti Woman is a left and right wing feature.

CorruptedCauldron · 24/08/2024 08:00

The far right: Women are private property.
The far left: Women are public property.

Either way, women’s needs and rights are not as important as men’s.
