Plenty of comments underneath about small man syndrome.

So did I, but I am 5'4" and have been told I belong in Santa's Workshop numerous times.

And Elf is my favourite Christmas movie.

Are you a man? Because if you’re a woman you’re not really considered very short.

Average height for women is something like 5ft 5 is it not? Short is 5ft 3 and under.

Short women aren’t ridiculed in the same way as short men are or viewed as having lower value in the dating world or less attractive outside of the modelling world anyway!

Even when jokes are made about our height it’s not the same, as “petite” is overall thought of as good /feminine /desirable.

I’m 5ft 2, lots of tall men love women my height. And short men too. In some ways it’s easier for shorter women.

OP, no it’s funny. Not remotely. Yeah it’s mean spirited but also just not funny.

This is very true, short women don't get the same derision as short men, but unfortunately very tall women do have the piss taken out of them. I've rarely witnessed very tall men having to put up with this. I had a very tall female friend when I was college and the snarky comments that were aimed at her were unbelievable.

Edited

I was in a pub once during a World Cup match many years ago. This very tall thin woman stood up and someone shouted “there’s Crouches sister” in a mocking tone and everyone at their table exploded into laughter.

She tried to smile to be a “good sport” but she looked so embarrassed and she already had a very hunched posture. I wonder if it was years of trying to appear smaller.

Crouch is a super tall football player btw.

And yeah my ex was 6ft 3 and he’d never been ridiculed for his height AFAIK.

I'm worried you weren't sure about your opinion so needed to share it to ask about it.

Hateam · 26/08/2024 08:49

Either it's OK to laugh at people's physical characteristics or it isn't. You can't pick and choose. If it's OK to make jokes about short men then it's OK to make jokes about weight, skin colour and disability (physical and mental).

Kissing someone your height is………..better. Just feels so good.

Hugs are also better with someone of a similar height, when you are chest to chest as it were.

A very valid point !
Additionally , when comments like ‘man up’ are now heavily discouraged , comments about physical attributes should be too !

In your opinion. Other people would argue its better to be hugged by someone tall and strong or tiny and fragile, or soft and fleshy. That sort of thing is part subjective taste and part seeing the positive in what you've got, either because you're a short man or you are in a relationship with one. Are you a short man, or are you a woman in a relationship with one, out of interest? Because if you're the latter, you should be careful your partner doesn't pick up on how preoccupied you are with height. Finding and posting memes to seek reassurance on MN and 'protesting too much' just come across like it's a big deal for you. Which is a shame if you are a woman dating a short guy.

tommyhoundmum · 26/08/2024 09:12

Very soon no one will dare make any comment whatsoever to any other human being and possibly not a pet.

I'm not saying nobody should make jokes about physical characteristics.

Just that if people do, don't moan if it bounces back on you.

tommyhoundmum · 26/08/2024 09:31

I have a huge dog and when he is (rarely) out with my daughter people, instead of saying "does that dog belong to that tiny old woman", just make horizontal signs with their hands at the height of about 3 ft. and say "is that her dog?"

I’m a short woman, 5ft 1.5, happily married to a man of 5ft 7.

So what prompted you to draw (unnecessary) extra attention to this particular form of mockery? Have you had negativity about your own height? Because it's seems on oddly random thing to pick out if it's not personal. A bit like starting a thread about mockery of the Birmingham accent when you're from Hull.

Aduvetday · 26/08/2024 10:23

Yeah it’s mean.

However, you must be new to the internet and the dark side of human nature. I;d strongly advise staying off the internet. Right or wrong - this is mild. Particularly when you think the internet facilitates horrific abuse on a world wide scale.

NPET · 26/08/2024 12:14

Right the ONLY element of a person's being which they can't help which I would joke about is dicksize.
Why?
-I'm 20 and it's funny, especially on a gno or hen night
-Men almost incite us to by making comments about us
-To some of us it DOES make a difference and we shouldn't be discriminated against for that!

Otherwise no, nobody's physical (or mental) characteristics should be joked about.

Hateam · 26/08/2024 12:45

What about errr... tightness IYSWIM.

And you have to admit, saggy tits are funny!

Nothing funny about a man who won't pay his way. And if his pecs are a bit droopy, we'll that's aging for you isn't it? I wouldn't laugh at him. If it was really bad he could always keep his shirt on.

I wasn't using tightness on that way...

if you think something is mean, awful and in poor taste, why give anyone the satisfaction of sharing it more widely.
As distasteful and ill judged as the original post.

BeyondOlympicLevelProcrastinator · 26/08/2024 18:13

"Tight" (medical reasons excluded) isn't the flex you think it is, bro.

I'm guilty, I laughed.

I 100% would send that to my (short) husband

Me too to my short husband.
Fortunately I'm retired or else I would be sacked.

I know. Just my little joke to amuse myself, while I wait for a man with a small penis to happen by and render me speechless with mirth. (Also joking!🙂)

Why is it written in such weird English?
