Plenty of comments underneath about small man syndrome.

Women are relentlessly mocked for their appearance, not just infantalised. Men aren't judged on their appearance in any way comparable to women.

Yep as the pp said, you clearly CBA to read that poster's post properly! 🙄

@Loveandhatred SAID

Women don't get relentlessly mocked for being short in my experience but do get infantalised. Short men get a much harder time of it.

She did not say women don't get mocked for their appearance FFS!

SpidersAreShitheads · 23/08/2024 11:50

It made me laugh too. Shoot me.

But I’m not offended by most memes/jokes that are designed to be rude/insulting - even if my own characteristics are the target. That’s just my sense of humour.

We all have things we find funny, sometimes even though they’re childish. It doesn’t make you a better person declaring that you don’t find this funny. Sharing this to someone who’s sensitive about their height would be mean, but smiling at it as you scroll past? Don’t see an issue really. Some people will find it funny, some won’t - just like any other meme.

I have to say though, this post is bloody odd. I could probably find a whole page of memes which are INFINITELY meaner and more insulting than this one. The internet is quite literally full of mean memes. No clue why this has been singled out.

HappyMummaOfOne · 23/08/2024 11:51

OMG it’s just a joke! Why do everyone have to take offence at everything now? Lighten up, and if something like this bothers you just scroll on and ignore 🙄

redalex261 · 23/08/2024 11:52

I think it’s mean if it’s aimed a specific person, but if the meme is actually witty/funny and just a generalisation not aimed at a particular individual then it’s ok. The objectification of the male Olympians is wrong but can’t get excited about it.

People are allowed to think that a certain meme or 'joke' mocking people (about something they cannot change,) is not funny! You don't get to tell people how to feel or how they should think. Or tell them to 'lighten up.' And who said the people who think taking the piss out of short men is rude and not funny 'take offence at everything?'

Stupid post! Hmm

No the poster didn't clearly say that at all. Let's analyse it shall we, since you're so invested.

Women don't get relentlessly mocked for being short in my experience but do get infantalised.

Short women will attest to being mocked for being short. As will tall women.

Short men get a much harder time of it.

Get a much harder time of it than what? It can't be women, because women are shredded on their appearance on a daily basis. There were whole magazines dedicated to picking apart the appearance of women. Now it's all over the internet. Men do not get the same kind of attention dedicated to their appearance as men.

PureBoggin · 23/08/2024 11:56

sunnymountains · 23/08/2024 10:53

I think with the way men treat and talk about woman it's fair play tbh.

But this comes from the same toxic masculinity/misogyny. Short men = not as manly = more like women = worthy of no respect. If you support one, then you support the other.

This doesn't work as a rationale unless there's a perfect venn diagram of men being twats about women and men being ridiculed.

My husband is 5ft7. He's also a kind and considerate individual who would never in a million years mock someone's appearance.

So did I, but I am 5'4" and have been told I belong in Santa's Workshop numerous times.

And Elf is my favourite Christmas movie.

Nope !!! 😆 I CBA explaining to @cupcaske123 how wrong they are any longer now! They're clearly not even arsed to read the posts properly, (that are telling her how and why she is wrong, about the original post by @Loveandhatred !!! )

As well as not reading and understanding @Loveandhatred's post!

Batshit!

Do you think all the short men are sexist violent thugs and the tall attractive men with nice hair are kind?

Bit like saying all mil are cows. I don't think sweeping statements are ever a good idea. My sons friends thinks all feminists are evil. Sometimes, someone has to sit people people down and explain that equal rights it is not the same as man hating. When is is a blanket hatred of all males we the feminists will be shut down even harder. Like it or not, 50% of the population is male and we need to kind one's on our side to help shut down the rapists and partner beaters.

If we belive all men are evil then we need to accept are fate for things to never improve

I thought bullying ended in the playground.

BashfulClam · 23/08/2024 12:05

I have been dumped for being ‘too tall’ had guys actually say it to me. I’m not even that tall I’m 5’9”…wish I had the details of the guy that broke my heart because I am tall I’d send this to him. I’m only 1 inch shorter than DH and he doesn’t care.

Ilovelurchers · 23/08/2024 12:06

Personally I'm much more attracted to short men - all my long term male partners have been not much taller than me. I would have no interest in having to crane my neck to kiss somebody!

But given that it seems a lot of women do favour taller guys, and this could therefore be something shorter guys genuinely feel paranoid/upset about, it does seem a bit of a cruel meme. Like mocking people who are plus size, that type of thing.

So it's not something I would share widely myself, though I can see it's meant to be light-hearted humour. In terms of any kind of teasing about their height, some shorter guys would laugh/join in themselves, some wouldn't. We should always err on the side of kindness I reckon.

PureBoggin · 23/08/2024 12:08

Yeah body shaming is bad unless we do it to men.

And we wonder why so many kids are bullies?

Does he work for santa ? 👀

Jealous are we? I have a good husband and not a complete twat like so many other women on here?

Yep, a few posters (very likely women) sure are showing their true colours on here. Wink

The santa comment was obviously uncalled for. But I'm not sure there's much moral high ground to be claimed by defending short men by implying tall ones are twats. Being a twat is an equal opportunities role enthusiastically embraced by men of all heights. So whether you chance it with a tall or short one is really just down to availability and taste.

People are awful to short men. It's disgusting.

Women don't get relentlessly mocked for being short in my experience but do get infantalised. Short men get a much harder time of it.

I am a small woman under 5feet and it is commented on daily by the children I teach.

Comedycook · 23/08/2024 12:26

Yeah that's shitty and not funny. I'm amazed to hear it made some people laugh....

Thebaguette · 23/08/2024 12:27

Crushed23 · 23/08/2024 11:02

This.

Also, who pays attention to FB memes anymore? They’re complete gash.

It's not spreading further. People talk about a lot of issues here, I don't think discussing social problem is any different to discussing others.

biscuitandcake · 23/08/2024 12:28

Its cruel.
But also - since when did we stop saying Father Christmas and start saying Santa?
