Plenty of comments underneath about small man syndrome.

Yes, if you have a hard line that excludes any characteristic, you definitely limit your dating pool. For some people that won't matter because there will be enough interested and suitable partners who are tall enough for their preference. Its only if a woman finds there are no suitable interested men who meet that criteria that she would need to decide whether to put up with a short man or stay single. Either choice is equally valid for her to make.

BobbyBiscuits · 23/08/2024 18:05

@DaemonMoon yeah. Maybe. I think it's a bit weird but if you can wear a heel and still be a bit shorter than him...is that the rule? It is bizarre isn't it. I certainly don't have a rule other than taller than me. I'm 5'6. But my most of my partners have been 6ft plus.

Lovelysummerdays · 23/08/2024 18:12

I’m very bored of people being perpetually offended on behalf of others. Why do you care OP?

Emberisque · 23/08/2024 18:20

Yes, it’s mean, but that’s because the internet is a total dumpster fire.

PureBoggin · 23/08/2024 18:41

Recognising cruelty and bullying behaviour is not "being offended on behalf of others".

britneyisfree · 23/08/2024 18:49

Things can mean and hilarious at the same time.

I think with the way men treat and talk about woman it's fair play tbh.

Men aren't one unified species who are out to get women. Some men treat women badly, and many don't. Doesn't justify mocking people because of their height.

tommyhoundmum · 24/08/2024 18:35

Really not funny, just mean.

Cosycore · 24/08/2024 18:38

I don’t think YABU OP

I think it’s another form of ableism and body shaming. I think social media and memes have a lot to answer for a lot of the body dismorphia and self body hate that’s out there.

my partner is a short man, and he is the best man I have ever known.

Noodles1234 · 24/08/2024 18:44

It is unkind. Boys / men are mocked for being short, no idea why. I am sure women are more mocked for other things.

OneTC · 24/08/2024 18:45

no idea why.

It's because we're short

Oh really? Why so easily bored? I think it’s great when people speak up for marginalised or minority groups, but also for people being mocked for their hair colour, height, weight etc.

Lovelysummerdays · 24/08/2024 21:18

Out of all the hideousness that’s out there a meme about blokes under 5 4” is what we should focus on? Yes we should call out racism and misogyny et al but who has time to pick apart every meme on the internet. If we are then those naked cat memes really offend my eyes.

Partylikeits1985 · 24/08/2024 21:25

Most memes are pretty mean aren’t they?

Given that cats are naked by default, I had to Google that to see what you mean. I couldn't agree more.

People are awful to short men. It's disgusting.

Women don't get relentlessly mocked for being short in my experience but do get infantalised. Short men get a much harder time of it.

This is very true, short women don't get the same derision as short men, but unfortunately very tall women do have the piss taken out of them. I've rarely witnessed very tall men having to put up with this. I had a very tall female friend when I was college and the snarky comments that were aimed at her were unbelievable.

Jayne35 · 25/08/2024 08:50

Lots of fb memes are nasty, massive woman bending over in the supermarket I see often, and it is usually women who share, not men, which is surprising. I haven’t removed friends who post stuff like that but I have hidden them.

Yes , this is true …..

Many comedians rip the p)£s out of all areas of society !

I read something one someone’s social
media the other day along the lines of -
You're in a mental hospital , tag the first 10 people in your contacts….
? Is licking the windows
? Is rocking in the corner
? Is walking round and round in circles
etc etc
The person who posted this has openly struggled with their own mental health so 🤷🏻‍♀️ !
Some could argue it is why the stigma of
mental health problems continue to exist !

Nadeed · 25/08/2024 13:25

@Jenkibubble Stigma against people with "milder" mental health problems has reduced. I mean issues such as moderate depression, anxiety, phobias. Stigma against serious mental health problems like bipolar, severe depression and schizophrenia has increased. It does not surprise me that someone with the "milder" levels of mental illness would still mock those with serious mental health problems.

Oh please.

It is a bit bad really. It's not like anyone can change their height. My dad was 5'7 and my mum shorter, but he always joked that he'd happily date a taller woman, and just buy a ladder?! I can't say I would be massively attracted to someone shorter than me though. They'd need to be a few inches taller. I don't even know why though particularly?
Some very short women seem to insist on men a foot plus taller?

I am that short woman - more or less. I wouldn't look at a bloke less than 5'11" after discovering that I was often only asked out by shorter men because I was shorter than them.
No thanks! I don't need that kind of insecurity in my life.
I'd rather a man liked me for me than for the fact I'm 5'2"

KarenandFour · 26/08/2024 01:30

i choose to find it funny, others choose to be offended. It’s just a meme and most mock something stereotypical. Must be exhausting to find things like this offensive

MeAgainAndAgain · 26/08/2024 01:41

Beth216 · 23/08/2024 11:03

I prefer shorter men to tall men, I'm 5'5 and like someone around my height.

Kissing someone your height is………..better. Just feels so good.
