Needing to switch from OVO energy and find the maze of energy supplier offers completely overwhelming.

Any way of filtering/recommendations are welcome.

Octopus - happy. Good customer service, good app, fast to reduce your payments if needed etc. Like them.

Haruka · 20/08/2024 11:17

Eon (eonnext division). Found them very reasonable and good experiences with the online portal, too.

Barneysmomma · 20/08/2024 11:18

Agree with PP - Octopus are great , our fix is coming to an end & tried to sort new fix last night but website not working. Emailed them & within 2 hours emailed back with new fix in place. Also agree quick to reduce payments.

Coastalcreeksider · 20/08/2024 11:20

Octopus, been with them about five years, no complaints and very helpful when contacting themm

TheDandyLion · 20/08/2024 11:21

Octopus, they're fantastic. I have a sign up bonus of £50 if you're interested in switching. Full disclosure I also receive £50.

Killingoffmyflowersonebyone · 20/08/2024 11:21

EDF - app is super easy, they always let me haggle down how much I pay when other suppliers wouldn’t and the tariff is good.

As with Octopus they also do £50 (for both) if you refer a friend. So you may find someone in RL who uses them is happy to help!

TheFairyCaravan · 20/08/2024 11:21

We’re with Octopus. We’ve been with them for quite a few years now and have no complaints at all. When we moved house they were really efficient too.

DrRiverSong · 20/08/2024 11:22

Octopus - no complaints, in fact I actively recommend them. Great service, very helpful if you need them

Ihavenotaskedyou · 20/08/2024 11:24

Edf, simple app, was easy to fix in, can easily change my direct debit and they actually reduced it for me this time.

Cyclebabble · 20/08/2024 11:26

Octopus. good add, clear charging and very good with the FIT for my solar panels.

Spendysis · 20/08/2024 11:26

Octopus got moved from bulb to them no complaints

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 20/08/2024 11:26

Octopus. Fairly happy with them, the customer service dept are responsive if there are issues & they're fixed quickly. I left SSE when OVO took over as the customer service went rapidly downhill & it wasn't great to begin with.

🐙 👍🏻

MereDintofPandiculation · 20/08/2024 11:29

Octopus. Customer service excellent.

Seaitoverthere · 20/08/2024 11:31

Octopus, been with them for a few years now and all been good.

Snippit · 20/08/2024 11:41

I’m with Utility Warehouse and very happy with them. I originally signed up via an agent and if there’s anything that I struggle with she will step in and help. The call centres are in the Uk, very friendly and professional.

Both my daughter and myself moved over to them after the most awful experience with EON, bloody nightmare. Their call centres appear to be everywhere in the world, it was difficult with some operators and their grasp of the language.

Autumn1990 · 20/08/2024 11:42

eon next were awful kept me on a commercial contract when I should have been on a domestic one. Currently with British Gas. Who put me on a domestic contract. Not cheap but customer service is ok.
Octopus wouldn’t let me have a domestic contract
I do have a domestic supply and meter but previous occupants had a commercial contract and it was difficult to find a supplier.

AuntieMarys · 20/08/2024 11:44

Octopus. No complaints

WomanInTheBoat · 20/08/2024 11:46

Octopus are great. I switched last year.

Jasmin71 · 20/08/2024 11:47

Octopus are really good

Beezknees · 20/08/2024 11:49

Octopus also, no complaints with them either. I work for another energy company and most of the complaints we get about other companies seem to be about British gas.

gano · 20/08/2024 11:51

I'm currently with E.ON Next and I'm happy enough with them.I like their app and website, find them really easy to use. Any issues have been resolved efficiently.

I was with EDF previously though and did prefer their service. As someone else mentioned, they were always good about letting me haggle my direct debit payments down. Also, they refunded a large credit on my account very quickly and without hassle.

Worse supplier I've had is British Gas. I found the website abysmal and could never get through to them on the phone. When I did manage to speak to someone they were never particularly helpful either. I changed supplier as soon as my fixed term product ended.

blobby10 · 20/08/2024 12:02

Been with Octopus for nearly 5 years now and customer service has always been good - however they've spotted that they overcharged me for the past 8 months. Something like 34ppkWh rather than 23p and it seems to be taking forever to resolve. First I had £1700 credit then I owed them £400 then they owed me £925 and now we are down to them owing me £548!

its been escalated to another department apparently - have to give 'Amy' credit as she updates me by email each week but I don't understand why its so difficult. I have a smart meter so surely they should still have those readings and be able to work it out?

Zow · 20/08/2024 12:56

British Gas. Been with them for the 40 years of my adult life - since I first had my own place. I find their rates pretty affordable - and I find them (as an energy supplier) to be absolutely. fine. I did switch to Scottish power about 10 years ago. (For one year - just for my electric only.) They tempted me in with a monthly tariff that was a 3rd less that I was on.

Of course, it was an absolute con ... I was using the same amount of electric, so how COULD it be a third less?!!! After a year, I found myself £150 in debt. So the direct debit was bumped up by an extra £14-15 a month to get it to what it should have been - and then another £15 on top of that to recoup the money!

I was conned! So I finished with them, and then I went back to British Gas for electric and gas.

My only problem with British Gas is it's really difficult to get to speak to anybody and get any sense out of them if you've got a problem. I had my electric meter break last year, and I couldn't get anybody out to fix it. They were just insisting they come and put a smart meter in instead. (I do NOT want smart meters!)

I resisted and resisted, and spoke to around 10 different people over a couple of weeks, practically begging them to come fix my electric meter. Every single time I rang - they told me they will only put a smart meter in. When I said 'I DO NOT WANT A SMART METER!' they all said 'WHY don't you want a smart meter?!' Over and over again like a broken record! (Even though I had explained why - over and over and over again - to multiple people.)

It was exhausting explaining myself continually. I never got the same fucking person twice! In the end I put in a massive complaint with Ofgem about their appalling behaviour... They came and fixed my meter within 3 days, and never bothered me about smart meters again!

Letgoofitall · 20/08/2024 13:09

Wow, thanks all. Really appreciate it. Looks like Octopus is the winner.

Thanks for helping with the mental load
