Someone I know puts hotel TV remotes in plastic bags before using them, because she once heard a standup comedian talking about men wanking on them while watching porn.

WTAF?

What weird things do people you know do that make absolutely no sense at all? Anything as odd as that?

I use hotel remote controls and kettles and don’t even give it a second thought.

I know someone who dilutes squash and leaves in a spare bottle in the kitchen to be used because it ‘saves time’ ……
i have been known to cover the radio remote in the kitchen with a plastic bag to keep it clean but my daughter objected

What do you mean by leaving it in a bottle? And all squash needs to be diluted I thought?

Premixing it?

I do this with squash. Totally sensible.

Me too especially when its hot and I get thirsty. I make it litre at a time and have the bottle and a glass by my chair. The time it saves is trotting back and forward to the kitchen.

I have to open and close door 7 times before I leave the house otherwise everyone I know will die

This is ocd. Are you seeing anyone for this? I would highly recommend speaking to your doctor

BeaLola · 18/08/2024 20:42

Well we don't have a kitchen bin - we used to hut I got fed up of DH cramming so much stuff in it that either the big broke getting the rubbish out or it got stuck. So now I use a carrier looped over drawer handle and it goes out to bin once full.

Also switch microwave off after using - no clock on it

I do unplug tvs when we go away on holiday

I do t think it's weird -just different.

Turning electrical gadgets off rather than leave on standby- advised by brother, fire-fighter. He said he’s been called out to fires started by items left on standby.

And it saves money. I once had a computer energy supply catch fire. If I'd left it on overnight, it would have started a serious fire. I like to turn everything except the fridge and router off though.

Sense, not weird at all!

It will affect us all though…

My mum switches the oven off at the wall - the big red switch that switches the electric supply to the oven.

In her defence, it relates to something from decades ago and she knows it’s superfluous, but she still does it.

I do this as my new oven has a cooling fan and I think it's a waste of electric 🤣

Well, we all know how many hours it takes to make a glass of squash! 😂

People have various ways of doing things and its ok if its not what you would do.

I've always thought the UK practice of handwashing dishes in a basin in a sink to be a bit odd, when we have running water coming out of taps. I appreciate most people use dishwashers these days but I still get the basin in UK Air BnBs.

In addition to the reasons already given:
-better for pouring liquids down the sink while you are washing up (more relevant in the days when people didn't have separate half or second sinks).
-can reuse the water on the garden more easily.
-water stays hotter in a plastic bowl than in metal or enamel sink.

Hennypen321 · 18/08/2024 20:48

I don't like the microwave to ping so I always stand near it when it's near to finished and open the door before it pings.

nosleepforme · 18/08/2024 20:49

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 18/08/2024 18:25

I have a washing up bowl. My sink doesn't hold water otherwise. No dishwasher so I wash all my dishes by hand, but the sink plug lets water trickle out and there's nothing left by the time I get to the last bowl.

Huh? No dishwasher but why the need to hold water? Only seen it done once and thought it was disgusting. Someone filled her sink bowl with soap and water, and put her dishes in, took them out and dried it. Made me wanna throw up. Please don’t tell me you do this?

FedUpMumof10YO · 18/08/2024 20:49

I worked with someone who use to eat their sandwich with a knife & fork.

Absolutely diamond of a person but completely batshit when it came to lunch.

I thought that’s dangerous unless you stop the microwave.

Can someone say if it's dangerous?!
I just don't like the microwave shouting at me to open it 🤣

Of course it's not dangerous. The people who design microwaves aren't stupid.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 18/08/2024 20:54

I always take my own travel kettle with me but hadn’t considered the TV remote. Uuuuggghhhh. I’ll pack anti bac cleaner as well next time.

AutumnBride · 18/08/2024 20:54

@JaneJeffer I've never seen anyone put milk in scrambled eggs, bit of salt and pepper and a good whisk is all you need.

As soon as you start to open the door the microwave generator is turned off. It's fine.
