P*rn blackmail email

Germainefear · 18/08/2024 13:23

NCd for this as I am both ashamed and scared.

Last night I used porn (I didn’t come here to be judged. I hate myself for it, so go easy). This morning I have had an email from a stranger saying that they hacked my webcam and will reveal the footage unless I pay them. Now I know that these are fakes (there has been a thread about them on here I think) but this one has worried me because it’s come so soon afterwards. It also named the site I used, which although a common one is still a red flag for me. Those coincidences make me worried. Please reassure me because I am feeling very useasy.

Just report it as spam. It's pure coincidence and they rely on people like you falling for it.

Georgie743 · 18/08/2024 13:27

I get one of these most weeks. Delete it and forget about it.

Motomum23 · 18/08/2024 13:28

So someone is saying they hacked your webcam and filmed you pleasuring yourself watching porn?? Bog standard porn?? Nothing illegal or particularly unusual in that. Most people will have watched porn at some point or it wouldn't be a billion dollar industry. Ignore it op. Who is going to care you watched porn anyway?? Its not like it was at work or watching illegal stuff.

redalex261 · 18/08/2024 13:28

Spam. Delete and report. Use porn if you like, it’s no everyone’s bag but it’s not illegal.

Universalsnail · 18/08/2024 13:29

It's just a scam ignore it.

twomanyfrogsinabox · 18/08/2024 13:31

Did you use that email to sign up for the site? If so someone may have hacked the site and got a list of emails which they are using for the blackmail attempt.

Ignore and see if they come back, if you don't reply they may think the email is a dead one. Or it could be coincidental.

If you just 'used' porn what would be on your webcam? Or were you doing sexual things on your webcam?

Bax765 · 18/08/2024 13:32

Definitely a scam! Theyre sending thousands of these emails every day so chances are they will happen to send them to a number of people who have watched porn recently, from popular websites.

DoubleCoatedDogs · 18/08/2024 13:33

The last one I had was entitled "Hello Pervert". I did laugh at that. It's a scam, ignore it.

TheKingCobraIsNotStrictlySpeakingACobra · 18/08/2024 13:35

Scam, I sometimes get multiple a day. Often saying i watched on my laptop, which I never have!!!

TheGoddessFreyja · 18/08/2024 13:37

Girl I get those emails all the time 🤣 Just delete and move on. It's purely coincidence you received it after you had watched it xx

TheMarzipanDildo · 18/08/2024 13:38

Is it the ‘hello pervert’ one? I’ve had that too and it did freak me out for a minute even though I never watch porn. It is comically fake when you read it back.

friendshipover24 · 18/08/2024 13:38

Agree with the PPs. Also you don’t need to hate yourself for watching porn.

Andwegoroundagain · 18/08/2024 13:39

Do you have a webcam ? I mean is it just the integrated camera on your laptop? Because if it is .. in order to hack that they'd need to hack the laptop and believe me they'd have far more than some shots of you watching porn. They've have your emails and your saved passwords and all that. So that tells you immediately it's just bs !

LilasPrettyCafe · 18/08/2024 13:40

I’ve had one of these emails before. Ignore and delete, or forward it to report@phishing.gov.uk. That’s what I did. These scammers hack for basic contact information but they never have very much info on who an email address belongs to. they send out pretty generic threats to thousands, hoping that a handful will believe them and send money.

Germainefear · 18/08/2024 13:41

@twomanyfrogsinabox My laptop has a camera. I presumed that’s what they meant.

@Motomum23 I suppose in the cold light of day I’m no different to lots of other people, but I don’t want people seeing me doing it.

Thanks everyone. I am less worried now. Just a freaky coincidence. I felt bad enough about porn before but this might put me off for good!

It's just spam.

Run a virus check and forget about it.

cantpullthetrigger · 18/08/2024 13:42

Were you actually engaging through your webcam at the time? It's not clear from your post but I am guessing you must have or else you wouldn't be worried.

Most likely a scam anyway. I'd just ignore.

MissMoneyFairy · 18/08/2024 13:44

Maybe the site you used sent the blackmail email, report it

delilabell · 18/08/2024 13:45

Ibhad an email saying that. I completely panicked. Came on here to ask. Then realised I don't watch porn 😖🤣.
If you do want to again and want to feel safer cover up your camera but I think it's just one of those fake ones

Toottooot · 18/08/2024 13:46

I received images of someone I know into my spam folder on Facebook messenger so it’s not true to say it will never happen. They must have found the persons Facebook page and sent to everyone in their friends list. I don’t know how the scammer obtained the images as I never asked the person involved what happened.

JabbaTheBeachHut · 18/08/2024 13:47

In fact I bet if you copy and paste what the email says into Google, it'll confirm it's a virus.

Germainefear · 18/08/2024 13:47

No I wasn’t. But my computer has a camera. I’m no IT specialist but I worry it could be hacked in some way and I could be recorded.

I wasn’t doing anything illegal or unusual. Just what people do when visiting that website. But obviously it’s the most private thing in the world so the thought of it being shared is awful.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 18/08/2024 13:47

I found one of these in my spam folder once. Made me laugh as I wouldn’t know how to even find a porn site if I wanted to. Delete it OP.
Possible you entered your email on the site and it’s a site employee chancing their luck?

PinkCast · 18/08/2024 13:48

Like PPs have said, it's a coincidental scam.
Does your laptop have a cover for the camera? If so, close it when not in use - if not stick a bit of tape over it.

OldTinHat · 18/08/2024 13:48

It's spam. Just delete, block and forget.
