Just that really.

I suppose it would partly depend on your definition of one.

I'm coming for you then @Crazycatlady79 with my ancient demon killing knife of the Kurds!

gardenmusic · 16/08/2024 21:09

Yeah, whenever faced with an absolute git, I think to myself 'What would Jesus do?'

I think they’re just a bit pathetic. Grown women taking great glee in kicking people when they’re down (like you see on AIBU especially) is pitiful imo

Hissss! I think you have missed the whole point of viperdom.

ViperHalliwell · 16/08/2024 21:17

evil
/ ˈiːvəl /
adjective

  1. morally wrong or bad; wicked: an evil ruler
  2. causing harm or injury; harmful: an evil plan
  3. marked or accompanied by misfortune; unlucky: an evil fate
  4. (of temper, disposition, etc) characterized by anger or spite
  5. not in high esteem; infamous: an evil reputation
  6. offensive or unpleasant: an evil smell
  7. (slang.) good; excellent

Definitely 5, according to the Reddit Bros and Twixheads. Occasionally 6 when absolutely necessary. And always, always 7.

WhatOnGodsGreenEarth · 16/08/2024 21:30

Evil? No.

The sort of women you’d want on your side as a friend in real life in my opinion.

RockyRogue1001 · 16/08/2024 21:38

Oooo.
Interesting question.

Being prepared to be unpopular - I love it
Speaking honestly and straight- I love it
Cutting through the bs - I love it

Being a twat for the snake of it, not so much
I hate the keyboard warriors
I hate the humourless
I hate the ones who just trope out the mn clichés

I love the vipers. And say that as someone who's been ripped a new one by them

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 16/08/2024 21:44

It’s a place where women escape the expectation they soften every unpopular or challenging opinion.

I found it overly robust when I arrived, but was swiftly schooled in the freedom of speaking your mind with the same confidence a mediocre man enjoys.

Liberating. And if that makes me ‘a bloody difficult woman’ then so be it.

AtTheTurnybus · 16/08/2024 21:44

If Jesus came to earth now, do you reckon he'd wear those long socks with his sandals?

MoreCardassianThanKardashian · 16/08/2024 21:56

Chat shit, get banged. If you come and are a cunt, we are vipers. Mostly we are ok but there are 100% some posts that I simply do not understand the ferocity.
Most posts are dependant on who sees it first. You'll then get one person brave enough to contest and a few will follow. To be fair, Mumsnet has taught me to really think through my responses in a debate on here and elsewhere to make sure that there is no query or miscommunication in what I say. There are still times I fail but it's a skill I wouldn't gain elsewhere.

MonsteraMama · 16/08/2024 22:01

I strongly believe most of them are the kind of people who tut at one decibel when someone wrongs them and then go home to write a post about how they did a head tilt, tinkly laugh and asked "did you mean to be so rude?" and floored everyone in the room with their cutting silver tongue.

Miranda Priestley behind a keyboard, Moaning Myrtle in real life.

Mumsnet Vipers changed my life without me ever posting.

The advice given so patiently over numerous threads to women in abusive relationships made me realise I was in one too and helped me get out.

I can't articulate how much my life has improved. Using the teenage vernacular I am far too old for, 'I'm living my best life'.

The 🐍s are alright by me!

(Sorry for turning mushy on you all, but seriously, changed my freaking life)

GoodieMcTwoshoes · 16/08/2024 22:31

gardenmusic · 16/08/2024 21:09

Oh you've got it, well done! I've only just started trying.

The sort of women you’d want on your side as a friend in real life in my opinion.

@WhatOnGodsGreenEarth Some of them would be friends who would disown you fairly quickly if you did something to annoy them.

Chat shit, get banged. If you come and are a cunt, we are vipers.

@MoreCardassianThanKardashian True but it's also that the 'advice' they give that can be kind of problematic. It is an 'interesting' moral framework.

Like that, but with cats instead, who will eat me when I die alone.

@ThanksVipers People here did help me once when I was stuck in a situationship with a wrong'un too, to be fair. They did accuse me of being a herbert making it all up though, which was upsetting.

Some posters here see all the good advice and all the patient support and accept it as helpful. They see a few nasty posters- and of course there are some- and then they pan the whole site for spitefulness. If you look for dogshit, that’s what you’ll see.

And encouraging women to let go of unhelpful relationships where they do all the work? Well, yes. Sticking with a relationship that isn’t working is only sensible if both parties are trying to change. Where it’s only one, then it’s pointless. That’s self sacrifice for the benefit of everyone else, and in the long run doesn’t achieve anything except the success of the lazy partner.

Errors · 17/08/2024 08:25

What constitutes a viper? Is it an exclusive club?

gardenmusic · 17/08/2024 08:26

You nay sayers - have you not seen the calls for assistance?
It's a bit like the Bat Light that goes up over Gotham City, but sent up over Mumsnet.
'Help me vipers'. Sent up by the bullied and the trapped. Vipers to the rescue! The Vipers are a force for good.

I think our light should be an acid green V with a viper wrapped around it, but willing to concede to a more artistic viper, bearing in mind light pollution, of course.

endofthelinefinally · 17/08/2024 08:39

AIBU is not the best place to post if you are a bit sensitive, to be fair. IME the bereavement and relationship boards are full of amazing, kind, wise women. The FWR boards are full of exceptionally clever, highly educated, generous women.
If they are vipers then vipers are great.

Totally off-topic, but I love the idea that you've encountered enough funny coach drivers in Spain that it's useful to rank them.

Self sacrifice for everyone else seen as a bad thing. Exactly, a lot of the stuff posted on this site is anti the whole Christian value system.

It's the downside of some forms of self-help/therapy culture. I've had some therapy I found very helpful, but some therapists seem to be making Harrys and Meghans who make looking after number one some sort of path of self-development.
