To think being short is mostly rubbish!

For context…. I’m 4ft 11. And it’s rubbish! Here is why -

  • Food! I can only eat about 1500-1700 a day. I exercise a lot, I try to be healthy but a couple of biscuits and boom, I’m a fatty!
  • Food no.2..eating out.. If I have a main meal then a pudding it can be more than my daily allowance.
  • Gaining weight! One tiny bit of weight and I’m a fatty. And it’s far easier to gain then loose!
  • Alcohol - I just can’t handle it. I’m a ‘cheap date’ but who wants to be drunk on one glass of wine!!
  • Cloths - they just don’t fit! At 14 I got a sewing machine so I could take up all my jeans but often it’s not just the length. The curves and shape just doesn’t fit!
  • Cloths no.2 - short person, little feet! I used to be a size 3, now most size 3 are too big! And 2.5 are less common.
  • Respect.Im an adult, a full on grown up but I constantly feel younger than I am because often feel like people treat me that way. I’m sure there is a statistic about career success and hight/earnings (tall people do better)
  • Running! A 5k for me is a LOT longer than a 5k for someone with longer legs!!
  • Supermarkets - why put things so high up!!
  • People thinking I’m ‘cute’ if I was me, but taller, I wouldn’t be cute.
  • concerts - I can’t see. Any group of people and I’m stuck looking at people’s backs.
  • nose in armpits on busy public transport.

Im sure there are more!!

I also suspect being taller than average is equally rubbish - public transport seats, cloths not long enough etc (but could eat soooo much food!!)

Sofas/chairs /seats I hurt my back recently and needed to sit "properly" I usually sit on sofa with feet tucked up to one side realised there is no a SINGLE chair in the house, other than hard kitchen chair, where I can sit with with my feet on the floor.

Some sofas, the type with a very deep seat pan, are so uncomfortable that all I can do is perch on the edge. If I lean back I’m virtually supine, if I push myself far enough back so I can lean back my feet hang over the edge of the seat. And I’m aware that the type of sofas that I have, which are comfortable for me, are probably not quite as comfortable for taller visitors.

Tbh part of what prompted my passionate irritation about my hight is gaining 7lb and having a tall colleague say she’s on a diet and has lost 12lb in a month…. I’d need to eat nothing to achieve that!

The one time I lost weight unintentionally… we got a rescue dog. She used to make snacking and eating a serious chore!! In hindsight, probably shouldn’t have trained her to ‘beg politely’!!

I've found 2 ways of losing weight.

  1. Keto 800 diet/Shakethatweight etc. Yep, 800 cals. (10kg lost in 3 months)
  2. Low cal diet with regular cheese and wine nights, followed by a late night 2 mile walk up a hill and back. Sadly this is no longer an option because we have kids and no longer have a dog. (10kg in 3 months, but a lot more enjoyable).

I couldn’t do an 800 calls diet. I have an underactive thyroid and it needs a moderate calorie intake to function.

Yes to this.

I hurt my leg recently and couldn't work out why sitting upright was so uncomfortable until the physiotherapist pointed out that most chairs, sofas etc were the wrong height for me. There was only one chair that I could sit on properly ie with back support and feet flat on the floor ... it was a child's chair!
It's funny but it's also not funny. I get a lot of back and neck ache. All due to kitchen work tops, desks at work, etc being too high for me. Also sick of seatbelts garrotting my neck!

Another thing I realised today that is hard when short, I went to tip today and had to empty bin bags with garden stuff in to the skips. Couldn't reach over. Husband had to do them lol.

I am on holiday, in the bathroom mirror I can see ....my forehead!
And yes about the car! I've never been able to see the whole bonnet or where the car ends. Newer car has parking sensors which is helpful. I can't actually reach to close the boot! Blush
I can't close lots of the windows at home. (I have a step-stool thst has to accompany me round for shelves and closing windows)
