Mr Blippi Creepy Energy Confirmed With Horrible Past Career

Members of my family expressed unease with Mr Blippi a grown man in tight trousers and braces talking in a baby voice and walking children through playgrounds and spaces, talking to camera. I also felt this instinctively, something was off about it and tried to redirect my kid's attention away but the kid is hooked. Heavily branded (toys, games, you name it) it turns out he has a degree in marketing and used to put the vilest videos online as a character called Steezy Grossman, involving naked men and his own feces. He's worked hard to try and hide this part of his past, but what gets me the most is that his background is in marketing and search engine optimisation, not in education. He has no idea how to behave around kids and even before I knew a single thing about him, his show seems off to me. Look at how many times he spells out his name to children to memorise, or tells them to say his name over and over again as they wash their hands. He's feeding off our kids, admittedly all entertainment is doing that to some extent, but in this case, there's little else to it. It's parasitic and unwholesome.

I DESPISE his videos, like it actually makes me want to throw something. My son used to like them as he was exposed to them at my mums house which I promptly banned. I tried to block all his content off the YouTube kids app but they kept appearing in different ways. I don't allow YouTube at all now

You can set the app up so it only shows pre-approved channels - much better than the world of weirdness that's out there on kids Youtube.

treadingonlego · 14/08/2024 14:27

Don't let your children watch him then. My children only watched CBeebies ...

I found Blippi less creepy than Mr Tumble, and much more varied and informative. My child used to love the episode with the detective and Blippi's stolen lunch, and any of the ones with vehicles or interactive play places. And we still sing the toothbrushing song sometimes now they're 8!

Admittedly, we were out of the Blippi phase before the merchandise took off, so I might view it differently now. Otherwise though, YABU.

PrincessPeache · 14/08/2024 14:29

Why on earth do you think that presenters of children’s shows should have a background in education? And why is it such a huge deal that he did some grim (but perfectly legal) adult stuff before becoming a children’s show presenter? His (very young) audience aren’t being exposed to it.

No more creepy than peewee herman.

I didn't like my kids watching him I thought he was off.
This blippi guy is as bad if not worse.

hotpotlover · 14/08/2024 15:27

Which Mr Blippi though?

My children love him and the actor changed a couple of years ago.

VeronicaCreepcheese · 14/08/2024 15:34

I HAAAAATE Blippi, and have blocked him on Netflix and YouTube.

I'm less bothered about his past projectile sharting endeavours than I am about the lack of any sort of useful content in his kids' shows. He's not imaginative, and it's not particularly educational. I also don't think that he actually likes children very much.

I dislike Fake Blippi (or Flippi, as he's known in our house) marginally less, and don't have strong feelings on Meekah at all, except that the name is very like that of the raccoon in Pocahontas.

polkadotpixie · 14/08/2024 15:41

This is old news isn't it? I read about it years ago! I'm not really a fan because he's irritating in general but I don't think he's a danger to kids or anything, especially not through a screen!

Thats the old Blippi!! He was sacked off pretty quickly and now and new person plays Blippi who is of good character.

Duckyfondant · 14/08/2024 15:48

I quite like original blippi. He really appeals to my kids. Never noticed anything inappropriate and my oldest learned A LOT from his shows.
I always knew about the shock videos (from Mumsnet funnily enough) but it seemed irrelevant and still does.

Yep, called Flippi in our house too 😁

It was still the old guy when my DS stopped watching, but I have just read a bit to get up to date. The old person was not “sacked off pretty quickly”. It’s still his brand and as far as I can see he stepped down from creating You Tube content because he had a child, and presumably wanted to work in other areas of his business.

Indeed - and he's still making an absolute fortune from it all!

AgileGreenSeal · 14/08/2024 16:09

Never liked him.
always thought he was a bit “off”

Notmushroomforthis · 14/08/2024 16:17

This is old news

GoFigure235 · 14/08/2024 17:14

Dare I say it, I dislike Blippi less than I dislike Bluey. I agree with the poster above that he doesn't seem to like children very much but for me that's part of the appeal. A bit like bored child-free millennials going to adult soft play or doing "mindful" colouring because well, why not? Why should children hog all the good stuff (and parents have an excuse to do it with their kids anyway)? I remember my cousin (who is a bit of a geek and proud of it) laughing at the online outrage from grown-up Lego fans that adults could only visit some Lego experience or other if accompanied by a child. There was some discussion (I think jokey) about who had a nephew (not niece apparently 🙄) or neighbour's kid they could borrow.

Biffbaff · 14/08/2024 17:27

The man's a genius coming up with that character/format and making a fortune from it!

I'd suggest in this instance because it is a children's show marketed at children so the creator should probably have an interest in children, rather than simply be making as much money as possible for the minimal amount of effort?

I'm not sure what you can find to dislike about Bluey.

Whitemale24 · 14/08/2024 21:36

I always knew there was something off about him, he struck me as a man with a troubled past, perhaps covering this up with the overly childish behaviours. Thank you OP you have confirmed this.

Demonhunter · 14/08/2024 21:40

Is Blippi like the new Mr Tumble then?

SalmonEile · 14/08/2024 21:43

Justice 4 Nicky Notes!!!

Notmushroomforthis · 14/08/2024 21:46

Nicky Notes must have had some information on Blippi to have been allowed on that show. I'm an excavaaaaaatoorrrrrrr

Superfrog3 · 14/08/2024 21:47

I saw 5 minutes of it decided he was weird and none of my 3 kids have watched it. Same with peppa pig, bing and the teletubbies. It seems mean to some people but some kids cartoon are weird or the main character is a little 💩 .. looking at you little pig 🐖.

Can you find something else to get him hooked on.

Oohh and I avoid Ryan's world because that's one big money making scheme also (which ultimately they all are but some are just too much)
