Former Director of Public Prosecutions. Now PM.
Following the 'civil unrest' last week, several perpetrators have been not only arrested and jailed, but publicly named and shamed, the speed of which I have never seen before.
Our PM clearly knows the right people to get things rolling quickly.
This, combined with the anti racism protestors, gives me a glimmer of hope for the future. I feel in safe(ish) hands with Keir.AIBU?

There is Two Tier policing in lots of different issues.

He needs to rule fairly. Let's see shall we.

What's two tier policing? Is it a Thing that requires capitals?

Notonthestairs · 13/08/2024 08:04

It's always telling when a poster opts to insult another MNer rather than respond to the substance of their post.

VimtoVimto · 13/08/2024 08:29

It has been argued that the UK does not treat the threat from the far right seriously enough.

@cardibach challenges misinformation, factual inaccuracies and lies on this forum. As do many others. She has challenged you on freedom of speech legislation because you clearly do not understand how it applies to private companies.

Seems it's you who can't take it. You are certainly the one taking an aggressive tone - all caps posting is considered very rude.

I know exactly how free speech applies to private companies, as I've highlighted multiple times. My issue is with perfectly legitimate concerns being silenced because they don't fit a preferred narrative. That is absolutely curtailing free speech. It's worrying that people can't see that.

As for: '@cardibach challenges misinformation, factual inaccuracies and lies on this forum'
Nothing I have said on here can fall into these categories. As I've explained already, avoiding these things is literally my job. This has simply become a catch-all term for policing opinions people don't like. Which goes back to my original point.

Hope that helps.

@cardibach

ignore them. They are well known for being aggressive, poorly informed and intransigent.

No they are not. But thanks for your input.

You're being disingenuous. If you know that private companies can accept and bar whoever they want, where is the problem? There are platforms for everyone. If it's right wing, conservative and nationalist you want, there's Telegram and Trump Social. My views wouldn't be accepted on either of those. I would be banned in no time and I'm fine with that. Equally other platforms choose not to accept posts with those kinds of views. All of that is legal. Everyone has a space to raise their voice.

Jumpingthruhoops · 13/08/2024 09:26

I'm neither left or right wing. But what you're basically saying is that this forum should only accept left wing views. Are you being serious? If that were to happen, it wouldn't be a forum, it would be an echo chamber.

It's not right wing to disagree with a preferred narrative. This is what people need to get out of their heads.

Notonthestairs · 13/08/2024 09:30

"But what you're basically saying is that this forum should only accept left wing views"

Nobody has said that.

So it’s not ok for someone to use gender neutral language to describe you but it’s perfectly fine for you to say I’m a man? Ok.

I didn't say that, I was speaking in general terms. Mumsnet could legally decide to only allow left wing views if it wanted to. (Hint: it doesn't. Plenty of very right wing people on here.)

My God, you are touchy aren't you?

I used the term 'mansplaining' in reference to your argument style. Nothing else.

My issue with the word 'they' isn't anything to do with 'gender neutral'... was merely to acknowledge that I knew the poster was referring to me. Nothing else.

I'm guessing from your responses that you're quite young, which explains a lot.

I'm late Gen X, so grew up in a time where people could have opinions and not everything was political.

My you are condescending aren’t you?
Do you think I’m young because I’m not right wing? Or what? I’m 59.
Mansplaining is a particular thing where a man thinks he knows better than a more educated/qualified woman. You can’t do it if you aren’t a man.
And no, not touchy, or upset, or offended. Just pointing out a double standard.
Anyway, you make so many assumptions and change the basis of your point so often that this is wasting my time. I won’t be responding to you again on this thread, so feel free to have the last word you so obviously want.

Erm, then what would you call:

There are platforms for everyone. If it's right wing, conservative and nationalist you want, there's Telegram and Trump Social.

That is literally saying anyone with those views should be 'over there' not 'over here'. I can't fathom why people would want to engage with views exactly the same as their own. That's bizarre to me.

I think some people are less aggressive and angry when they don’t have their world view challenged.

itsgettingweird · 13/08/2024 10:05

Jumping having read through this thread I can safely assure you that cardi is NOT the aggressive one.

You - however - seem to need to argue every point made. And o don't agree with many of your "facts" either.

59? Wow... never would've thought that.

Interesting that you say I've 'changed the basis of my point so many times'. On the contrary, I think I've been pretty consistent. Which has been the issue: you're used to bashing people over the head with your opinion on this forum and getting away with it. That's why I said 'you again?' initially as I've spotted you doing that to all sorts of people on all sorts of topics across MN.

Also - 😂😂 at mansplaining what mansplaining is! That did make me chuckle.

She can’t “mansplain” - she’s not a man. This really does seem to reaching personal attack territory. Maybe it’s time to stop?

Yes, sick of all the "wah, you're a man!" on here, happens all the time if you don't agree with a poster and have your own opinion on some topics.

Well, if you support her political standpoint, you're going to say that aren't you?

This started with me saying that there is a clampdown on free speech citing people I knew who had had their FB/IG suspended for promoting unity and tolerance. The powers that be want everyone fighting with one another, so these sentiments are silenced. This IS clamping down on free speech. And people are getting sick of it.

BeachParty · 13/08/2024 10:22

Yeah, there's obviously more to that story.
You do not get suspended for just "promoting unity and tolerance."

I haven't said 'wah you're a man'. I merely said that PPs debate style was akin to 'mansplaining' in tone. What word would you use to describe it then? Patronising? Condescending? Passive aggressive? OK well, yes, those things too!

The very fact it's the term 'mansplain' that's got people all worked up explains why political discourse is fast going down the toilet!

Jumpingthruhoops · 13/08/2024 10:25

Nope. That's all it was.

I would like to see evidence of that.

And again, I didn't say there was no place for right wing views here. There manifestly is, as you would know if you read widely. There is also space for challenge and debate, within what is legal and within what the owners of Mumsnet feel is acceptable.
