Made a bolognaise pasta sauce type thing with 1 kg of minced beef steak.
Onions, peppers and mushrooms added.
Have come home from work and DH and DS 18 have polished the bloody lot off leaving me with a measly ladle full of sauce
( pasta was cooked separately for clarification)
They are most of that too
Twats

I cook normal portions for us, 2 adults. I always give OH more, so he gets 2/3, I have 1/3. I tend to put his on his plate first and there have been many occasions when he has tried to take my third before I have put it on my plate. He would eat EVERYTHING if I let him. He has no idea of portion control. He would literally stuff his face. No self control.

GiddyNavyJoker · 08/08/2024 20:12

Wow, greedy sods! I've recently got in the habit of using 50% beef and 50% pork in ours. Tastier and cheaper 😊

Mince is the new magic chicken I see

Thats exactly what i was thinking 😂

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 08/08/2024 20:15

I'm not even sure I have a pan big enough for 2kgs of mince. I usually use 450g of mince plus onions, mushrooms, small pot of soffrito, can of toms plus a cup of passata and that feeds me, DH and teenage DD and leaves a large portion for DH to have with a jacket potato the next day. So 4 decent portions - I'd expect 1 kg to do 8 portions. DH and DD like to have a lot of pasta with it.

OP of course your DH and DS were greedy bastards, I hope you got a decent apology from them (and fair play on the wrap hiding).

Jeannie88 · 08/08/2024 20:15

Yes, greedy shits, how rude! Next time make something similar but swap mince with mealworm, tomatoes with chillies, oh and add anything else you can think of that won't harm but prove a point 😉 😀

Alternatively stop cooking, their turn, then you eat/hide/freeze the same portions. Xx

Oblomov24 · 08/08/2024 20:16

I used to like the Sainsbury's 1 kg of mince packs. I'd buy 2, ie cook 2kg of mince and batch cook it into a dinner, plus a few bags of spag bol, for the freezer. Now I don't like, so don't buy these new air tight packs of 500g or 1kg at Sainsbury's.

Same here. Please feel free to share your recipe roughly!

2lbs mince, 4 large carrots chopped into tiny piece, 2 tins chopped tomatoes, tube of tomato puree, minced onion (some of us don't like actual onion just the flavour), 2 stock cubes, Italian herb seasoning, bacon! A portion for me is 1.5 small soup ladles.

Just no. Not for bolognese. Meatballs yes.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 08/08/2024 20:20

I'm not sure I could live with someone like that, I'd find it such a turn off.

ChildlessCatLadiesRuleOK · 08/08/2024 20:20

Greedy and inconsiderate 🐷🐷

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 08/08/2024 20:25

That's a pound of beef each, most people would consider four quarter pounder burgers greedy and a Bolognese has added veg and tomatoes etc.
It's greedy and selfish.

TortillasAndSalsa · 08/08/2024 20:27

That would do us 2 days. I cook for 4, 2 adults and a 9yo and a toddler and have half one day and half the next. They should of left you some that much between them is plain greedy

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 08/08/2024 20:31

I think there will be discrepancy here about what people put in a Bolognese, an onion, mince and a jar of dolmio you will eat more meat. I use 1kg mince 2 rashers of smoked bacon, 3/4 large carrots, 3 large mushrooms (the Portobello/large field mushroom size), 2 large courgettes (can't use celery DH is allergic), 2 red onions all finely diced, 4 cans of chopped tomatoes, garlic, oregano, tomato puree and some water and cook it slowly for 3+ hours tweaking the seasoning along the way, wine if I have any open.
My kilo of mince will go much further than if it was just meat and jarred sauce

I5itm3 · 08/08/2024 20:32

Jesus! My husband is a tank, and that would still do us two dinners for two adults and two little kids and a baby.

UnctuousUnicorns · 08/08/2024 20:36

I forgot to mention that there was also a large carrot in my pasta bake. Would have been mushrooms too if we'd had any in, but the fridge was a bit empty. Still made plenty, though!

SD1978 · 08/08/2024 20:38

I think 1kg of mince may become the new MN chicken.......some people can feed a family of 10 for a week on it........I would be fecking livid that they did this, it's utterly selfish and disrespectful. I don't care what their job is. To come in, knowing others had to eat and basically oldish it off would have me absolutely furious with the both of them, and seriously considering not cooking for them

MorvernBlack · 08/08/2024 20:39

cannellonies · 08/08/2024 20:04

Put what you want for you in lunch boxes before you eat, and leave what’s left?

There is no way in hell my dh wouldn’t leave more than enough for whoever isn’t there to eat.

I portion it up straight away, but it has to cool on the side after portioning and that's when he strikes.

GettingStuffed · 08/08/2024 20:41

Even DH and DS1 wouldn't manage that. DS says he makes a chilli with that amount of mince and it serves him for 2 meals ( enormous appetite)

Yes, i'm wondering how the hell people are (claiming to) get 12 meals out of 500g of meat. With a teaspoon each?!

LuckySantangelo35 · 08/08/2024 20:52

HunterDuke · 08/08/2024 17:28

I once cooked an entire side of salmon, left it in the oven and went for a shower. It was to be mixed with quinoa, veg and portioned out for a week. Came downstairs and my OH was finishing it off. The whole.bloody thing. He doesn't like salmon much. If I am cooking I need to be there at plating up or he would eat everything - literally everything in the pans or in the oven. It's insane.

@HunterDuke

thats not normal.

HunterDuke · 08/08/2024 20:55

Cornflakes44 · 08/08/2024 18:46

That's actually disgusting behaviour. How selfish and greedy of him. Not sure I could respect someone with such little impulse control. He sounds like a child.

He's not. He's a great guy. He's also very very sporty and disciplined - but not massively thoughtful in the moment. He gets hungry and to be fair to him, he doesn't eat crisps, sweets or shit, so can often be a hoover for proper food. That said, he got a bollocking that day.

I'm always quite bemused by it tbh. I tried batch cooking but gave up because there was never enough left for a second go round. And, I'm a rubbish cook, it's not like I'm offering up cordon bleau.

Booksandflowers · 08/08/2024 21:07

Projectme · 08/08/2024 17:49

Exactly my thoughts 😉🤣

Was thinking this too! 500g would only feed 4 of us in our house. And that’s bulked out with veg! 🤣

CluelessAboutBiology · 08/08/2024 21:10

@HunterDuke what did DP say when you discovered the lack of salmon?
