The Town I live is on the 'list' of planned protests for this Evening. My Work sent all Staff Home before usual closing time.
Town centre is so quiet and Eerie, majority of shops closed and boarded up and even Tesco / Petrol stations plan to close.. we were called to get our click and collect earlier due to the unplanned closure!

Brighton counter-protest is so big it looks like a street party, it has a band and everything.

Have been flicking through Twitter and can't see anywhere that has mustered a serious group of rioters yet, and a lot of places with big counter protests forming new community links.

Lots of quite heart warming footage TBH, I hope it stays this way.

Vintagevixen · 07/08/2024 20:39

No. Not at all. I think that list had a lot of trolling.

My little town is on the list, the only people out are the counter protestors chanting a bit and looking disappointed 🤣

AngryBird6122 · 07/08/2024 20:39

When I saw Brighton on the list I was like 🤔😂

RubyGemStone · 07/08/2024 20:42

Its all been overhyped. I was 'at' as in accidentally passing a protest at the weekend. The photos of it make it look like WW3 about to kick off but in reality I see more action and noise when theres a big football match. It seems like online agitators are using social media to basically troll the mainstream media and then the public into thinking something will kick off when it won't.

Not to minimise some of the horrendous experiences I've read about. Nurses in taxis having rocks thrown at them for example must have been terrifying but I think the bigger concern is that it promotes racism being normalised on a national level. Suddenly, lots of filth coming out of the woodwork thinking its now safe to do so.

3WildOnes · 07/08/2024 20:33

It looks like the massive numbers of counter protesters have scared off the racist thugs in lots of areas.

I can't believe that that is true. Surely it would be beyond their wildest dreams to have a bunch of peaceful demonstrators with placards to throw bricks at.

I just don't think that there are the numbers to make it happen in so many places. Elon Musk was talking irresponsible crap.

I am! We live quite close to one scheduled and have watched loads of the anti-protest people walking past over the last hour or so, but so far no violence

how do you know where the protests are taking place?

Inspireme2 · 07/08/2024 20:47

I am disgusted.
Also concerned for family in the Uk.
What a shameful international embarrsment in this day in age.

Viviennemary · 07/08/2024 20:16

They should just ban those protests, Enough is enough..they are not even protests IMHO.

These are riots not protests! Anyone who suggests otherwise is minimising massively.

These are racist thugs out looking for a fight. They are in no way protestors.

Cantgetausername87 · 07/08/2024 20:47

I was worried but I'm not really anymore. Live in one of the towns on the "list" and all is quiet and a bit eerie, but been rest assured anyone planning will be met with riot shields from lots of police!

MaMisled · 07/08/2024 20:47

I am. Two DC live in Brighton, one close to trouble tonight. DSC are in Manchester, very central. I'm afraid for them.

Ahreepdeepdeepdeep · 07/08/2024 20:48

@Stoptherideiwanttogetoff24 There's a huge list that's been doing the rounds on Social Media today! But as a PP said, it may just be trolling but has caused a lot of panic here!

Daily mail have it on their site top story,
also social media pages

That just encourages it. They shouldnt give it air time

SonicTheHodgeheg · 07/08/2024 20:37

There are people live streaming some of the protests. I mean protests as in what civilized people do, not fighting and mindless vandalism. I’m hopeful that the sensible will win against the violent.

Yes, some of the thugs seem quite accomplished at throwing a brick whilst simultaneously holding a phone in right direction and filming themselves. Fools

BeaRF75 · 07/08/2024 20:49

No, I'm way too busy watching the Olympics! People really need to get a grip.....

Agree, theres more locals out for a look rather than protesters.

Ahreepdeepdeepdeep · 07/08/2024 20:49

@Cantgetausername87 Tons of Police here too, especially at Train / Bus Stations. I've never seen so many if I'm honest!

Choochoo21 · 07/08/2024 20:49

I have seen lots of videos of gang members and scary looking counter protesters.

These rioters aren’t afraid of the police, because they know they can only do so much (especially before the arrests/prison sentences were being dealt out).

But dealing with gang members from multiple gangs or counter protestors who aren’t afraid to give as good as they get and who outnumber them - is probably going to be enough to keep many of them at home.

AnnaMagnani · 07/08/2024 20:49

I saw the tail end of a Tommy Robinson march outside the Houses of Parliament recently.

Loads of police, some guys spilling out of pubs waving beers and a total desperation on their part to get nicked so they could shout about how they were being treated unjustly.

Meanwhile the police were generally avoiding them like the plague and just making sure no passersby or tourists got caught up in it.

There was a general air of disappointment from the EDL lot that nobody was fighting them.

Not when they are so massively outnumbered!! It looks like they all slinked off when they saw massive numbers of counter protests. I know a few turned up at certain locations but now no sign off them.

VividQuoter · 07/08/2024 21:04

Hopefully it stops completely , even tonight
I walked today in a town in the SE, very calm, all kinds of nationalities, it was a paradise

BrendaSmall · 07/08/2024 21:07

Call in the army and get some of the fire brigade out and fire the water cannons at them!

ChallengingFigureUnrulyFlaps · 07/08/2024 21:08

I remember G8 riots in Edinburgh in the early 2000s. I nearly got tramped by the police on horseback on my way home from work! I was told not to wear a suit to the office in case I attracted people who were "anti-capitalist".
