To think Elon has lost his mind?

I used to be a big supporter of his. I was absolutely obsessed with his work on SpaceX and neuralink. His Joe Rogan interviews are some of the most interesting conversations I've ever listened to. Since he bought twitter I feel like he's been radicalised. I honestly can't square the man he seemed to be while building this extraordinary career with who he had become.
I still agree with him on quite a few topics, but his outbursts on twitter this week to stoke the riots is just reprehensible. His comments seriously make me feel sick. I really hope he is held to account when the dust settles. Although I don't hold out much hope.

In the app so can't set up voting properly, but essentially
YABU - Elon Musk is of sound mind
YANBU- you're right, he's lost it

What's he said? I've no idea. I tend to put him in the same box as other conspiracy theorists so zone out tbh.

If you think 99% of Mnetters disagree with Musk, you're not seeing what's right in front of you.🙈

But you've moved towards reality from no one to 99%. I hope you continue to move towards reality and away from "facts" you make up in your head.😊

No idea what you are wittering on about

I think it's his response to Keir Starmer's speech regarding the riots. KS said that Muslim communities must be protected, and Elon Musk retweeted it asking 'Shouldn't all communities be protected?'.

There was also a lot of misinformation on X about the Southport incident.

I don't trust X.
I don't trust many posts on here either.

I think he is getting involved in things that he doesn't know about.

I don’t think you ‘get’ your role when you are on X

It’s not a place where you believe everything, you have to enact some discernment, some critical thinking. I saw the tweet being passed around about a Muslim suspect and didn’t believe it. It had no source, was clearly written in an inflammatory way, and so vague that it just wasn’t feasible. If I remember, it actually started with “a friend of mine…” or something similarly stupid.

The point is firstly, you can’t just blindly accept everything there, but I’d hope people have that same discernment for every source of information, but also that there are reports and reporting that is always directly from source if you can be bothered to find it, and this offers an opportunity to actually get somewhere near the truth, which imo is a better thing than accepting news from outlets who put their filter on it, be that the bbc or gb news

It wasn't just one tweet, it was several. Just go on Twitter and look. You dint need an account to see.

Keepingcosy · 07/08/2024 07:35

Isn't he a huge Republican supporter? I think he dislikes left wing politics & is he provoking our new government?. His 'all communities need protecting' I read as a bit like people saying 'all lives matter', in response to the black lives matter movement?

AllPrincessAnneshorses · 07/08/2024 07:39

YABU because he's always been like this. Classic example of too much power and money equals a. Giant twat. b. Increasingly dangerous

NotTerfNorCis · 07/08/2024 07:42

He's always been an unpleasant person. As an IT professional I was sickened by the way he treated Twitter employees when he took over the company. His latest statements seem in character.

Araminta1003 · 07/08/2024 08:18

What annoys me is that someone like him could in theory say lots of stuff to stoke division/undermine our PM and simultaneously short the U.K. stock market and pound to make money for the share losses he has encountered to buy back his own stock etc.
He could use his influence to antagonise and harm a whole country politically and financially and I find that level of power in this day and age unacceptable. Therefore, I strongly believe that stricter laws for social media are a must and I think governments around the world need to work together on this one. They are undermining democracy in my opinion. And I agree we need to educate our youngsters to apply critical thinking but with these algorithms it’s very difficult. It’s like some social media giants are creating a media reality for many people that does not reflect reality. It’s dangerous.

I'm in IT I cheered it on if I am honest.

They had previously been banning people who had reasonable views from the platform (feminists who don't believe men can be women)

When he took over he stopped all that but he has gone a bit too far the other way now although I like the community notes that combat disinformation.

He is quite bonkers though.

I don’t see a contradiction. He’s just a human. I think there are 2 things at play:

  1. He’s doing the typical middle aged man thing of thinking that because he is very successful at his career he knows everything about everything and we would all benefit from his opinion.
  2. He’s driven by emotion far more than he realises: in particular, his loss of his relationship with his child due to the child transitioning has fed into a general anti woke agenda which his claim of inconsistent policing is part of.

Neah, don't make excuses. Lots of successful a) men, b) middle aged people c) middle aged men are not in love with their own opinions. I could name hundreds. And there's no shortage of successful women who stopped listening to people they don't agree with (eg Margaret Thatcher or Sheikh Hasina Wazed). Power corrupts anybody but having an ego the size of a planet corrupts them faster.

SerendipityJane · 07/08/2024 10:34

Nails it.

To think Elon has lost his mind?
ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 07/08/2024 12:21

He's wrecked Twitter. Ad revenue down 50%, users down 20%.

He may be good at engineering but as a social media mogul he's a big failure.

The texts when he took over Twitter were revealing. Lots of sycophants telling him he's great and then when the CEO of Twitter pulled him up on his behaviour Musk got really angry and it ended in Pooh emojis and the most expensive strop in recent history

Fanofbrianbilston · 07/08/2024 17:48

If he can get a fascist president in power it saves him money, he can avoid taxes and not have to follow wage or employee laws. Billionaires gonna billionaire.

He’s a Trump puppy. Provocative for the sake of it and I am fed up with UK media repeating what he’s posted. Who the hell cares.

One thing I am fed up with, is being told what I am fed up with.

Bowies · 07/08/2024 17:59

No unfortunately think this is actually the real him.

There was terrible racism reported at his company some time ago.

He’s proving himself to be a one man shit show unfortunately one with far too much influence.

SerendipityJane · 07/08/2024 18:07

this is actually the real him.

Any excuse for some classic rock

Can you see the real me ? Can you ? Can you ?

My youngster is in the police convoy heading north this evening. Elon Musk is a dangerous man apparently with lots of power but no responsibility.

restingbitchface30 · 07/08/2024 18:50

He’s a vile person. A disgusting, gross waste of flesh.

No doubt you’ll be joining the rioters. Enjoy your prison time.

OhMaria2 · 07/08/2024 19:37

Grateeggspectations · 06/08/2024 14:29

He is provocative. Nobody with half a brain could imagine that anything can be gained by smashing up your own town and attacking the police who have a shitty job looking after us.

however. Until the rioters are listened to (even if what they are saying is crap) they will keep on escalating. As anybody who has worked in mediation or similar knows, you can’t de escalate a situation by telling off those who feel they have a grievance. And Keir Starmer talks like a head teacher who is keeping everyone in at the end of the day. He’s winding the rioters up.

Couldn't agree more.
