Glitter should be banned

Apparently it was banned in the EU last year! Not for the first time I'm wishing we still followed their rules, and we should follow suit now. We never buy glitter or items with glitter on but somehow it makes its way into our house anyway. If we get something like a card with a glittery front my heart sinks. In DD's bag of crafts from the school year that she brought home, there's an egg box decorated with glitter that already covered all the other crafts and I've left the egg box in the bag for now because I dare not bring it out! A few weeks ago DD found a little packet of glitter in a craft kit that we didn't know was there, and she emptied it all over the carpet and into her art box. It was hard enough clearing it out of the carpet and we're still finding it everywhere and cleaning out the art box will be so difficult we haven't even started yet. And it's all just bloody microplastics! The existence of glitter does no good for anyone.

Completely agree with you. I am trying to avoid any polyester, acrilic clothes. Try to buy mostly second hand wooden toys for DC. The only issues are sports/gym clothes for me, there’s no way to avoid synthetic fabrics in these sort of clothes at the moment.

Community Clothing has started doing plastic free sportswear. Community Clothing sportswear

Nobody needs glitter. Surely the environment is more important?? No wonder the environment is fucked when people say they can't even go without glitter. And no, kids don't need glitter to make them happy. Give me strength.

Porridgeislife · 06/08/2024 13:52

I agree! Mostly because I am so fed up of washing it out of my toddler’s hair after a day at nursery. For some reason they use loads of it for their artwork.

Apologies - in my defence this is a predominantly UK based forum.

You are incredibly selfish and misguided. Do you have pets so I can come and terrify them? So they can die horribly choking on the plastic and string you've released?

Selfish idiot.

Nope, no pets here.

No. I like a particular arrangement, and also the attitude of the eco posters just makes me even more determined not to compromise even a little bit.

Keep tarnishing the memory of a baby by killing animals if you like then. Delightful poster!

Her memory is not tarnished, it is lovingly celebrated ❤️

Exactly. Would be funny if it wasn’t so depressing that some people actually think like this.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 06/08/2024 14:25

People getting called a cunt for liking glitter. What a time to be alive.

This is exactly why nobody takes you people seriously 🤷‍♀️ Such hysteria.

You haven’t read the thread obviously. That wasn’t about glitter

Balloon realises have an affect on your immediate area... it is not like microplastics that go in the ocean and we can pretend they don't exist.

The balloons you realises could end up in the mouths of horses and cows... some are live stock and some are beloved family members... and you don't give a shit because someone who is dead and is not able to actually give a shit, is more important.

Read the thread. This person wants to cause EVEN MORE ecocide because people point out how idiotic it is.

That is sociopathic.

I thought you meant Gary!! He should be banned!!

I did too!!!! I think he is banned isn't he?

Glitter police, please see above. It isn't an either or. Life needs some sparkle!

Edited

Your comment is stupid and makes no sense. Plastic glitter is being banned, biodegradable glitter isn’t. No one is stopping you from using the latter.

I think he's still in jail?

Also, billions of those grubby single-use face nappies masks are now in the oceans, thanks to the worldwide panic, probably killing all kinds of wildlife, yet to many Mumsnetters, anyone who refused to wear one was the devil incarnate.

Glitter does me good. It brings me joy.

Unfortunately until people stop having dumb thoughts like this it will still be popular. I agree that it should be banned.
