Now that she's the official nominee, is anyone else excited about Kamala Harris's chances?

Just to get it out of the way - I am completely against Trump being elected President. I'm pretty excited to see Kamala being officially nominated, and looking forward to her fighting a strong campaign - albeit slightly nervously. Anyone else?

To see someone such has Harris is so refreshing, unlike Trump she is intelligent, educated, knows how to be articulate in english language,
It appears she does know what the agenda and policies she and her party want to achieve in goverment .Trump on the other hand just wants to be a dictator, sounds an idiot and lets face it only knows vitriol as his policy, the world leaders all but a few would not want to see him as a leader of a huge country in control, he will destroy America and unleash a civil war.

She's certainly more up to the job than the Hannibal Lecter infatuated, battery vs shark rambling, lying orange felon she's up against 🤷‍♀️

This is what put me off people who talks like this are the same than the one they are criticising. Childish and pathetic.

She’s not up to the job. To elect her as POTUS on the sole basis of race/gender would be a sad day for democracy.

Misogynoir at its finest.

I suggest you look up her qualifications and professional experience.

FayeGreener · 02/08/2024 23:05

Okay I’ve looked it up.

The suspect was arrested on Monday. He was named on Thursday after The Daily Mail applied to the judge to waive his anonymity.

I don’t really understand how a newspaper can do this but it’s impossible for the prime minister to do it. Can someone explain?

So what. I am a female doctor and can attest to the fact there are a lot of “qualified” doctors who are worryingly incompetent. Do not call me a misogynist.
KH record as a prosecutor is poor. She is not good at her job.

dottiehens · 02/08/2024 23:15

This is going to get pointless like when Meghan Markle did the Oprah interview and onwards. Any criticism of KH is going to be met with racists claims and accusations of misogynists. The woman has been in government 4 years as a VP. The US people and the people who follows genuinely the US politics have seen enought to make a judgment. At the same time people”s excitement is that she is black and a woman in spite of who she as a politician but when people say that is not the most important aspect to be the president of the US they get outraged. So ridiculous.

bombastix · 02/08/2024 23:16

Gee I do so love these female doctors

WildLemur · 02/08/2024 23:30

Harris certainly isn't beyond criticism but, unless even if she were an entirely mediocre candidate, that would still place her leagues ahead of Trump, and it's a binary choice at this point.

FayeGreener · 02/08/2024 22:57

Okay so a judge lifted the anonymity order and revealed the identity of the killer

What I want is an explanation of why it wasn’t possible for Starmer to prevail upon the judge to do this before the riot.

I understand your reasoning, but the Prime Minister has no immediate authority over the judicial system. His job does not give him legal powers to make a judge do something.

Fedupmeds · 02/08/2024 23:37

She failed the first law test but ad pointed out at the uni she attended most do the first time , but she did it again and sailed through, Trumps father paid for him to pass his exams thats the level of intelligence and education he has , he pays people so much like his father , I am sorry if I offend Trumpeter,s but really this man pays people off, avoids paying taxes, and is sexist and people are voting for him really , wake up smell the coffee

This used to be the case. When Justices were appointed based on their profound understanding of Constitutional law and their ability and willingness to uphold that law. It also required an intellectual ability and honesty that some of the current Justices don’t have.

No, that is the case. As I said, people can disagree about the interpretation of a law, or whether a past case is applicable, but SCOTUS opinions (and dissents) all cite laws and cases. I’m currently a SAHM, but I’m also a licensed attorney in my state. Every year, I attend an all-day seminar about that year’s SCOTUS decisions, with legal experts laying out what various sides argued before the court and why the court ruled the way it did. There is always, always a reason involving other laws, past cases, past legal history, the Constitution, et cetera. The Supreme Court never issues opinions without extensive write-ups on why they reached their decision.

There is no US law or case history that would support the position of president being replaced by an unelected dictator who gets to rule for life.

a lot of brown people didn’t survive the Obama presidency. Mainly because he bombed the shit out of them.

Don't remember the Donald doing that.

Give a short memory then because he absolutely did.
He just changed the laws around reporting of it so it wouldn't be recorded.

And Obama can go fuck himself for his drone fetish, but so can trump for carrying it on

Starseeking · 02/08/2024 23:48

I speak as I find @3CustardCreams.

Apolloneuro · 02/08/2024 23:48

I think Taylor Swift is one of the most powerful women in the western world, amongst a particular demographic. I’m not that demographic personally, but I see it.

Were she to actively come out and support Harris (has she yet?) I think it would be as effective as the Obama’s support.

My particular hope is that the two candidates will live debate. Trump will be unable to help himself from revealing his deep hatred of women and people of colour. He will come out with such putridness that even some otherwise Trump supporters will be appalled. Some will agree with him, of course, but some won’t.

Also, she’s not old. That’ll do it for some people, as well.

Fedupmeds · 02/08/2024 23:49

Donald Duck oops Trump will cause wars he is about self indulgence a wannabe, hates criticism and women and after watching the Danish reporters documentary last night wow, that just opened up a can of worms .

Exactly

Doesn’t Kamala owe her early success to the er…”sponsorship” of much older political bigwig Willie Brown?

(Im aware this is a sexist trope. Doesn’t mean it’s not true in her case).

You might want to step away from Fox News propaganda for a minute or two? Or are you just following their playbook, that the more times you repeat something the greater the odds of convincing the gullible? Becuse this is so easily fact checked, it makes me suspect the latter.

Harris had a brief relationship with Willie Brown that ended in 1995. Are you seriously suggesting she's coasting on that nearly 30 years later.

I can’t believe your dislike of him can blind you so much to the state the world is in such since Biden became president. Russia invaded Ukraine and hostilities are ramping up significantly in the Middle East. There is intelligence indicating China will invade Taiwan soon which will drag US into another war on top of the current two.

If you're actually interested, this is a dive into her record as a prosecutor. Whether you agree with everything she did is up to you, but calling her record 'poor' is an interesting judgment call.

And yet Russia want Trump to win (because Trump is hostile to NATO).

I can just about get my head around certain types of American wanting to vote Trump but a Trump win makes the world a lot more dangerous for the UK and the rest of Europe.

I cannot stand Trump and to say due to Biden war in Ukraine broke out for godsake wake up, Ukraine has been on Russia,s agenda for years , people will be blaming Biden for catching a cold next. Or shall we blame Trump fo Covid and he said drink disinfectant to kill it

Trump just wants all NATO nations to contribute their required 2% GDP to fund NATO which they weren’t doing before. He was unhappy that US was contributing more than their fair share.

There is no US law or case history that would support the position of president being replaced by an unelected dictator who gets to rule for life.

There's also no us law or case law that supports presidential immunity (in fact, the opposite (Nixon v. Fitzgerald).

It wouldn't need to go to a court. Absolute criminal immunity for official acts under core constitutional powers and presumptive immunity for other official acts certainly give pretty good cover to someone in the oval office looking to cancel an election.

If your legal experts were taking the position that the immunity decision was anything other than the supreme court effectively amending the constitution without ratification, they need some CLE.

Also a lawyer.
