Now that she's the official nominee, is anyone else excited about Kamala Harris's chances?

Just to get it out of the way - I am completely against Trump being elected President. I'm pretty excited to see Kamala being officially nominated, and looking forward to her fighting a strong campaign - albeit slightly nervously. Anyone else?

Ah but it’s a good line; it has got right under his skin. Now that’s interesting because being a crim, felon, pussy grabber, incendiary anti democrat or being called those doesn’t bother him.

Being called weird does.

Hmmm. It is annoying to be inaccurately insulted.

Maybe she’s onto something. She should call him a shortarse next.

He could have instantly revealed that the suspect wasn’t a Muslim for example.

It wasn’t up to him, tho.

cheezncrackers · 02/08/2024 22:37

I hope she beats Trump, because Trump is a despicable human being. However, no one has ever been particularly enthusiastic about Kamala as a prospective presidential candidate until recently, so I'm a bit sceptical about whether this enthusiasm is real. I think, for the Dems, it's just relief at Biden having said he won't run again and Kamala being the only real candidate with a chance. That doesn't mean she's a great candidate though. I hope she picks Mark Kelly as her running mate. He's a good guy.

Surely he could have taken the executive decision in the interests of calming things down.

The level of debate and understanding about US politics on this thread is embarrassing. We are down to debating whether Taylor Swift will win the election for Kamala Harris.

Echobelly · 02/08/2024 22:39

I feel the Dems' chances are considerably improved but it's not a shoo-in. From what I'm seeing, Trump and GOP are running scared BUT in know I'm in a bit of a lefty echo chamber online. IRL there are plenty of people who will still vote for him for some ungodly reason.

Though cracks do seem to be genuinely showing and it sounds like Trump and Vance may be turning off the undecided to either vote Harris out not vote at all. The Red Hats will vote for him come what may but they are not the majority of the GOP vote.

@Justcallmebebes

Why do you think she isn’t bright? She was a lawyer and rose to District Attorney of San Francisco and the Attorney General of California before she became a senator and then VP. That takes a lot of intelligence plus resilience.

Yes, look into why she climbed the ladder. Far more of who she knew and slept with rather than what she knew

Which would be illegal. What else should he just randomly decide to do?

Careful you’ll be accused of being misogynist. Even though this is widely known to be true.

When the US Supreme Court makes a ruling, it’s for a reason that can be found in existing US law. People can argue about interpretations of laws, but SCOTUS doesn’t just pull complete nonsense out of their asses. They have labored-over judicial opinions with citations and legal history and past case law.

What legal history and past case law do you think they would use to rule in favor of the US being ruled by a dictator-for-life?

This used to be the case. When Justices were appointed based on their profound understanding of Constitutional law and their ability and willingness to uphold that law. It also required an intellectual ability and honesty that some of the current Justices don’t have.

Overtheatlantic · 02/08/2024 22:36

That’s what I’ve been thinking. Hopefully Kamala Harris’ campaign are on top of this. It will ultimately come down to this sort of fraud.

Not really. When polled about what matters to people during an election, the economy comes first followed by immigration. Trump polls better than Kamala on both of these issues.

bombastix · 02/08/2024 22:44

i think it’s end of the go high approach. Trump is thin skinned. He doesn’t mind being notorious because that’s good politics. Implying he is odd, old or weird is not powerful. It’s demeaning, and he hates that.

He has predictably come back with a declaration that Harris is weird, but it’s all a bit lame. Watching with interest as he really dislikes woman politicians

Of course it’s misogynist and untrue. This place really is a cesspit sometimes.

So it would have been impossible for Starmer to get in touch with the police and say “we’ve got a far right riot brewing. I need you to reveal to the media that this bloke is neither a Muslim nor an immigrant.”

Why? They revealed his identity anyway after the riots.

bombastix · 02/08/2024 22:50

Democrats would do well just to go through the playbook Trump had for Biden; I reckon most of those lines represent his real fears about himself.

It’s not his decision. Didn’t you know that

Jesus Christ. It is not the police who make the decision either. I think you’re on a wind up here.

GinAndJuice99 · 02/08/2024 22:52

Who cares? It's America, a foreign country. Do you think they care who wins our elections?

FayeGreener · 02/08/2024 22:53

So it would have been impossible for the killer’s identity to be revealed before the riots? Is that what you’re telling me? Starmer couldn’t possibly have set something in motion to do this? No?

How much do you know about the UK? Not much it sounds like

TheHateIsNotGood · 02/08/2024 22:54

Not quite "excited" but rather pleased she's now the Demo Candidate that stands/squares up against Trump.

I'm in the UK so no direct 'skin in the game' but whoever runs the USofA affects us and others. I'm not frightened by Trump but I'd rather Harris got elected.

We got plenty o'shit going on in the lil'ol' Ununited Kingdom, rioting and stuff, etc, etc to be too concerned what the US does.

Okay so a judge lifted the anonymity order and revealed the identity of the killer

What I want is an explanation of why it wasn’t possible for Starmer to prevail upon the judge to do this before the riot.

How would it have helped? They’d still have rioted because he’s “forrin”.

Presumably they wouldn’t have thrown bricks at a mosque.

Actually I’m stumped as to what they would have thrown bricks at. What’s Rwandan?

Why wouldn’t they? They don’t give a shit where he’s from, he’s not white that’s good enough for racist thugs.
