Now that she's the official nominee, is anyone else excited about Kamala Harris's chances?

Just to get it out of the way - I am completely against Trump being elected President. I'm pretty excited to see Kamala being officially nominated, and looking forward to her fighting a strong campaign - albeit slightly nervously. Anyone else?

He’s been in power less than a month and the bloody country is engulfed in riots! There are police cars and double decker buses being set alight!

And you think it’s due to Starmer being in charge? 🤨

pikkumyy77 · 02/08/2024 22:05

Im in the US. And a citizen. I am extremely excited for Harris and hopeful that she will win and be a great President. There isn’t one perfect person only who can fill this role—from a democratic perspective. We have lots of great, up and coming politicians sho could be great presidents. But she Is there, has been Attorney General of California, Senator, and now VP for four years to a man with 50 years if service under his belt. That is some awesome on the job training.

She has caught the popular imagination on the center/left and that coalition should sweep the popular vote as Hillary, Obama, and Biden all did. Trump may win again by winning the Electoral college but he won’t win the popular vote. So if he gets back in its because of an artifact of our deal with the slave owners and regressive apportionment in the constitution.

I am hopeful. And I like her.

She's now leading in the national polls. She has raised more than double the amount Trump has in donations in one month. The upswell in support is very impressive.

Supporting her she has:

Beyoncé
George Clooney
Taylor Swift
Oprah
Obamas

Trump has

Hulk Hogan
Kid Rock
Alina Habba
34 felony convictions

I'd say she's stands a very good chance

So she basically has the most insufferable phonies on the planet supporting her?! I'd take Hogan any day.

bombastix · 02/08/2024 22:06

Yes! She is such a breath of fresh air. I also love that she calls Trump weird.

Harris for President. Not that I have a vote.

He’s the Prime Minister! The buck stops with him surely.

🤣 Yup, clearly his fault. All of it!

It’s happened under his watch therefore he has to take a certain amount of responsibility for it. Presumably he could have done something to stop it happening.

WildLemur · 02/08/2024 22:11

The weather has been much better since Starmer got in, so I'd say he's doing an excellent job.

Oh god no this heat is appalling. It’s much too hot!

I’m getting nostalgic for overcast days.

If trump and his cronies don't find a way to mess with the voting system, then Kamala will be president. Only misgivings I have is that the Republicans will find a way to tip it over to trump. By messing with voting.

Surely, surely, but surely, there must be a very small number of folks that will now support trump? Or is it just me?

He's a horribly offensive man who attacks everyone. Anyone, who doesn't worship him. He's on his way out, I hope.

He’s not particularly weird though is he? (Apart from his hair).

He's a lot of things - bombastic, rude, sexist, untruthful, egotistical, etc. - but I wouldn’t say say he was weird. He sometimes says weird things - like how he’d sleep with his daughter if she wasn’t his daughter but I wouldn’t say he comes across as weird. Just loud and blustering.

Kamala is weird however. She’s definitely got that “embarrassing aunt” vibe, with her nervous tic fake laugh and nonsensical catchphrases about unburdening.

YankSplaining · 02/08/2024 22:23

WildLemur · 02/08/2024 21:58

I'm not about to attempt to render a judgment myself.

Will you at least accept that Donald Trump and many of his allies made a concerted effort to overturn the election results and that many in his orbit have indicated that they will try to do so again?

I wouldn’t say “overturn” - their claim was “Trump actually won,” not “Trump lost, but we don’t give a shit, we’re not leaving.” Trump and his legal team alleged that voter fraud had taken place, which was found to be unsubstantiated by Trump’s own attorney general and officials in all 50 states. Trump claimed he would never concede the election, the Capitol rioters made a disorganized and ultimately failed attempt to prevent the certification of the election results, and then Trump…conceded the election the next day.

Those aren’t the actions of a man who’s capable of installing himself as a dictator. No attempt to command an organized armed force to keep him in power. A willingness to work within the court system. Leaving the White House under his own steam and running for president again, within the established election system. As we’ve seen time and time again, he talks a big game but he doesn’t deliver.

Yes everyone knows he’s offensive. But it seems pointing out just how weird he is, and his close acolytes are is rather effective.

He is very, very weird.

The fact that he never, ever laughs is far weirder than Harris' laugh. He is a deeply creepy man.

I find it ironic KH calling Trump weird ..when she’s so odd herself. With her inappropriate random laughter and nonsensical talk.

Yeah! I wonder if it’s a sort of strange Preemptive strike? “I know you are but what am I?” sort of thing.

It’s just an oddly inaccurate insult.

MadameMassiveSalad · 02/08/2024 22:31

Yes!!! 🙌 And you

bombastix · 02/08/2024 22:32

Ah but it’s a good line; it has got right under his skin. Now that’s interesting because being a crim, felon, pussy grabber, incendiary anti democrat or being called those doesn’t bother him.

Being called weird does.

Billions were wiped off from the valuation of blue chip companies overnight. Because of manufacturing and jobs data coming out of the US. Kamala Harris is a dud. Any more bad news for the markets and her fate is sealed.

Trump will glide back into the White House.

That’s what I’ve been thinking. Hopefully Kamala Harris’ campaign are on top of this. It will ultimately come down to this sort of fraud.
