Now that she's the official nominee, is anyone else excited about Kamala Harris's chances?

Just to get it out of the way - I am completely against Trump being elected President. I'm pretty excited to see Kamala being officially nominated, and looking forward to her fighting a strong campaign - albeit slightly nervously. Anyone else?

Hi Melania!

I'm pretty sure @Viviennemary likes him more than Melania does.

This is such a typical Republican move - to try to sully someone's military record.

It happened with John Kerry about his Vietnam service, with all claims proven false.
And as for Trump - he said John McCain was a loser due to him being imprisoned and tortured as a POW for five years. Trump managed to get a series of deferments and then a medical note to avoid the draft. He called American soldiers who died in war 'Losers' and 'Suckers'.

Trump did get shot at though which is more than Walz did

knitnerd90 · 09/08/2024 02:22

Someone with Trump's record going after Walz for retiring from the NG instead of going to Iraq is showing a shocking level of self-unawareness, and so is anyone trying to defend that.

What's next? Complaining about Walz winning the Minnesota Congressional Hotdish Cook-Off?

The GOP is completely adrift right now. It's too clear that Trump just has boilerplate shtick.

It’s Vance going after him

Indeed, he should be awarded the Medal of Honor

Vance is the one saying it... but he's not going after his boss' record now is he? It's hypocrisy no matter which one of them says it. By any measure, Tim Walz served longer and outranked JD Vance, and promotions past a certain point are very much not automatic. I can't remember if the NG has the same "up or out" policy as regular army.

FWIW I think Trump IS weird. Not as weird as his running mate, but definitely weird.

Weird as in, he appears to choose that shade of skin, but be happy leaving his eyes and hairline white. Weird as in, he seems to have a weird way of thinking about his daughter. Weird as in, he doesn't appear to care everyone knows he's lying all the time. Weird as in, his line of thought seems totally off kilter.

I mean, not weird as in fucks a couch, I grant you. But he is weird to me. Always has been and I guess that weird got him slots on comedy shows and films and helped him there. Like Boris' weird did here.

PrincessOlga · 09/08/2024 08:24

If other politicians like Elizabeth Warren (I believe) did better than Harris in the primaries, should they not have been selected? I cannot understand, given technology, why the Democratic party could not have had a re-vote to choose a candidate. Can anyone explain?

Also, would Hillary Clinton not have been a prospective candidate? Or has she completely withdrawn from wanting to be president?

Someone explained that the selection of Harris was done to the satisfaction of the Democratic party as evidenced by the roll call/vote that chose Harris after Biden dropped out, but I don't think they quoted the actual vote numbers (winning percentage?). Or was it just a single-candidacy vote?

Good to see another January 6 rioter (who struck police officers with metal polls, stomped on 5 officer's heads, bear-sprayed others and committed various other acts of violence) getting sentenced to 20 years today, after pleading guilty.

Not a word of it on Fox "it was a peaceful protest" News, of course.

That Trump says he would consider pardoning each and every one of these violent thugs is beyond deranged but, based on yesterday's helicopter story, it's probably just the case that Trump's brain has completely failed him at this stage.

Hard to tell if he should be locked up in jail or a room with padded walls at this point.

Still, Kamala's weird laugh eh?

Just in the name of accuracy, the couch fucking thing isn't true. I mean, he might have, but it wasn't in the book. If he did, I'd still vote for the cushion before I'd vote for the Trump/Vance ticket.

WildLemur · 11/08/2024 00:21

Geez, he's doubling down on the helicopter story.

It's amazing how regularly he, completely needlessly, makes an absolute twat of himself.

I know Biden came across as more frail but it's astounding how Republicans continue to give him a pass when Trump has been incapacable of getting a truthful and coherent sentence out of his mouth for at least a couple of years now.

On the positive side, nice to see Kamala is ahead in all of the betting markets now.

Maggiethecat · 11/08/2024 19:02

What’s the name of his media platform 😂

Maggiethecat · 11/08/2024 19:05

Not a couple of years, he’s always had a long distance relationship with the truth.

He knows that he just needs to put the lies out there and a load of people will lap them up without question.

Whenwillitgetwarm · 11/08/2024 19:11

Haven’t read the whole thread but I’m glad the couch fucking thing has resurfaced. I vaguely remembered a US politician admitting to fucking a couch years ago because it was so crazy.

He had the admission removed from the paperback and later versions of his book. Thank goodness someone had a copy of the first version hardback. What an absolute freak.

He also gives me massive incel vibes. He’s obsessed with controlling women. He even demanded to debate Harris last week. Does he think he’s running for President? I bet Trump seriously regrets taking Musk and Thiel’s man as VP, but he’s so greedy he just wanted their money.

I should say I read that it was in the hardback first edition. Removed from later editions and paperback. Also updating to say I haven’t read it though.

To be fair, this "it was in the first edition" thing isn't true either.

The picture of him "in drag", released today, looks like it might be legitimate though. Lay-D Vance, perhaps?

knitnerd90 · 12/08/2024 03:18

Also, I'm fairly sure that in Minnesotan, "weird" means something that would take 4 "fucks" in New York City.

(A friend swears that when she lived in the Twin Cities and was working as a waitress, she heard an older woman refer to ketchup as "spicy.")

Yes, sadly, it's not true.

No, 1st Edition of JD Vance's 'Hillbilly Elegy' Doesn't Mention Couch Cushion 'Eroticism'

It's the 2024 election rumor that simply won't take a seat.

HC went for it twice and failed, that's just not viable. Plus never admitted her own mistakes during her campaign, which were pretty significant. The Clintons have huge baggage now too.

Not to mention that trump claimed to have bone spurs to escape the draft. Him making fun of anybody's military record is laughable and this was brought up on numerous occasions in his first run, his idiot supporters don't seem to remember any of this though.

Republicans love claiming that they love the veterans and military yet all of their policies cut funding for veterans.

I suppose it's like Brexit voters complaining about how hard it is to now do business with Europe. Absolute morons.

Seriously. Although I wouldn't assume a trump supporter understands irony or meaning of the word.
