Now that she's the official nominee, is anyone else excited about Kamala Harris's chances?

Just to get it out of the way - I am completely against Trump being elected President. I'm pretty excited to see Kamala being officially nominated, and looking forward to her fighting a strong campaign - albeit slightly nervously. Anyone else?

I bloody love her. How anyone can think that the misogynist adulterous racist criminal is somehow a better choice is simply beyond me and almost everyone I know.
I cant wait to see her wipe the floor with him. He simply cannot bear the idea of being beaten by a woman - and a non-white woman at that. Bring it on!!

Kamala Harris seems very strong to me.
Donald Fart seems an embarrassment.

pikkumyy77 · 13/08/2024 12:54

Its weird to watch how easily trump’s fan girls catapult his bullshit even here on a UK site. But given the smashing headlines for Harris-Walz as a team and the evidence of people literally dancing in the aisles at their rallies all these cries of “She is so obviously awful” are starting to remind me if the last days of Baghdad Bob.

Live by the insult, die by the insult. Trump appears to be going down in the polls because people don’t like his vibe. Too bad. So sad.

Maggiethecat · 13/08/2024 13:11

They’ll say they’re not fan girls, willing to overlook his vast inadequacies and unsuitability for the job. They’ll cloak
their support in the focus of the serious business of the economy.

Apart from his bonkers MAGAts... I think everyone is bored with his modus operandi. Insult, demean, argue, lie, hold pathetic news conferences with a chosen few, same old 'jokes' and insults about anyone and everyone at Rallies. Rinse and repeat.
His fans used to go and see him as it was a novelty, now it's just same old same old and beyond boring.

How Fox News still big him up god alone knows

WildLemur · 13/08/2024 21:48

Another Trump supporter, inspired to commit electoral crimes as a result of his lies, looks very likely to be heading to jail after a guilty verdict today.

His narcissim, coupled with the gullibility of many of his supporters, has ruined so many lives.

I think this is true. A few years ago he was a novelty, and ‘entertaining’, now it’s old and stale. You can only repeat the same old show so many times. He’s boring, the nicknames for opponents, the self aggrandising, he has nothing else.

Clock how little genuine impact him even being shot made. It was headline news for a couple of days. This would be unthinkable a few years ago, however, he’s become a victim of the type of politics he popularised. It’s all shock value stuff, making people doubt what they see and hear, peddling conspiracies. It was no wonder many people doubted what happened then got bored after 48 hours.

Interresting on the boring bit....

I've seen a video and exactly what he was saying about Biden, he is now saying about Kamala. His reportoire is severely lacking.

Waltz said in a campaign event on gun control that he wanted to ban the guns he used on the battlefield

And? The battlefield is not a school or a mall or a cinema, which is where those guns usually get used. He's right to ban them.

This is quite striking

Particularly as every other member of his family has come out against him. Also highly amusing as he's approached both Trump and Harris about potential cabinet appointments.

And have your read any of the recent media about him? Bonkers. John Oliver has a very good segment on him, if you're interested.

pikkumyy77 · 18/08/2024 00:05

RFK is a noted crackpot: a serial sexual predator whose wife committed suicide after reading his diaries detailing his multiple sexual encounters. His entire family has disowned him. He doesn’t speak for anyone but himself and his statement about the Harris-Walz future administration is absurd. Biden Harris brought an end to the Afghanistan forever war started by the Republicans. Neither she nor walz can be tarred as neocons—that group went with the republicans years ago. The accusation is just phenomenally out of date.

That may be. However, I do agree with (almost) every point he makes here (I'm of the view that people are complicated. Sometimes people have bad characters but are right in some areas, other people are compassionate and agreeable but have no principles, so I don't mind agreeing with someone like R. F. Kennedy Jr).
I think he's basically summing up everything that's so wrong with the modern Left, which Harris unfortunately epitomises. Namely, being pro-war, Big State, pro-censorship, with a propensity to lock even vulnerable people up for minor crimes. And a complete unwillingness to engage with those they disagree with. I find Harris worryingly ignorant on a number of crucial issues (such as Ukraine), and the way she speaks about such complex subjects is infantile and simplistic.

knitnerd90 · 18/08/2024 10:33

Oh, RFK's nothing more than a brain worm addled antivaccine grifter whose rhetoric killed hundreds of children in Samoa. So principled he offered to throw his support behind both Harris and Trump if they gave him a job.

And that's before we discuss the bear story. By the way, if you hunt, you dress the carcass immediately, you don't stick it in your car and then just freeze it. It might explain the brain worm.

Trump would just let Putin have Ukraine.

simplistic?!

just vote for the guy who says “Ukraine …. woulda neva happened!” 🤨

pikkumyy77 · 18/08/2024 11:36

I don’t see the point of these anti Harris posts? I mean other than as a form of psyop. I really dislike the Republican party and I vote against its goals and policies. I won’t change my mind because random internet person offers me warmed over memes or observations that have no basis in history or fact.

Take these bizarre assertions that JFK and the original RFK were all about peace? Ir that RFK jr is “on the left.” Neither is true. There are many lefts in the US—I, myself, am related to some of the most storied from my great grandparents who were anarchists to my grandparents who were on the left and attacked as communists.

Whatever RFK is he is neither on the left in any political sense—though he sometimes spouts a white nationalist populist line—nor a man of peace or even humanity.

At any rate RFK has zero chance of getting into office vis election. He isn’t on the ballot in most states. Only someone (pretending) to know nothing about third parties in the US would be do naïve as to think he is other than a spoiler. Journalists have uncovered the obvious money trail between RFK and the Trump supporting billionaires. He was intended to siphon off democratic votes from Biden. Alas for the grift! It turns out because if his crazed anti vax stance and fluent q anon speech he actually draws more from Trump’s support.

I know! Politics is so hard!

In conclusion why don’t you anti Harris people start a pro Trump thread and describe all the policies that you like? I will start! Planning to deport millions of people violently on the basis of perceived foreignness. Legitimizing bounty hunting of women who seek abortions snd ending Roe v Wade. Taking 10 million dollars from the Egyptian government as s bribe right before the last election. Declaring there were “very fine people” among the rioting neo nazis at Charlotte. …

pikkumyy77 · 18/08/2024 13:07

But to return to our muttons: I love Harris-Walz for their simple, unaffected, full throated support of democratic policies. The road is clear—we sll want to get to a fairer, safer, kinder US after Trump’s “American Carnage” version. I’m not fussed about the details dnd the negotiations. We won’t know how we move and how we need to compromise until we see what happens in the senate and house.

What do you mean you don't see the point of anti-Harris posts? Are people not allowed to criticise Kamala Harris? Critiquing people in positions of power is both a democratic right and a necessity, lest they become complacent. It's how we hold people accountable. Do you think she's some kind of saint that she mustn't be criticised?

Are you referring to Trump?

Where did I say that I liked Trump?

Is it not possible to think that Harris has serious deficiencies, and simultaneously not be enamoured with Trump?

Do you assume that criticisng Harris means I must love Trump?

I think the points he made here stand regardless of who RFK is. The fact that she's pro-war, pro-censorship, Big State, and so on and so forth are truths that don't depend on the moral character of one individual who pointed these things out.

And why is everyone assuming that disliking Harris means liking Trump?

poetryandwine · 19/08/2024 22:02

Hi, @Stumped7

I don’t think there is a general assumption that disliking Harris means liking Trump. I don’t believe that.

But realistically American voters are faced with a binary choice. I happen to be fairly enthusiastic about Harris. But even if I were not, I would be asking myself whether someone with many years of experience in local and state government in California - which would count as a member of the G7 were it a country - as well as a strong reputation in the Senate and coming up to 4 years as VP in an Administration that has done well by Americans through very challenging times (though the maths of inflation make this difficult to see) is a better choice than a convicted felon. And worse if you consider the civil judgment against Trump in the E Jean Carroll case

It is that simple
