Now that she's the official nominee, is anyone else excited about Kamala Harris's chances?

Just to get it out of the way - I am completely against Trump being elected President. I'm pretty excited to see Kamala being officially nominated, and looking forward to her fighting a strong campaign - albeit slightly nervously. Anyone else?

Also highly ironic is Harris’s labelling of Trump as “weird.” The only weird one here is cackling hyena Harris LOL.

So... all you have is... she laughs. Okaaaay. 'Weird' is very mild given what he has lobbed at Harris. Questioning her ethnicity ('she happened to turn black' ??) 'crazy, 'nuts', 'dumb as a rock', she has a low IQ, she can't pronounce her own name, and more.

At this point I think we can assume the anti-Harris people don’t have anything that is both recent enough to matter - given that people grow - and well reasoned.

They kept trying to stick her with the immigration mess until we pointed out that DT ordered the Congressional Republicans to vote against a bipartisan bill that would have been a big first step towards solving it , supported by Biden and Harris. DT didn’t want immigration solved.

With Walz MAGAs are trying to say he 'stole valour' as he left the national guard before seeing action but in fact he had applied to retire before the outbreak of the war in question (Iraq), so basically they're just left with ye olde racism, sexism and lies. If other politicians like Elizabeth Warren (I believe) did better than Harris in the primaries, should they not have been selected? I cannot understand, given technology, why the Democratic party could not have had a re-vote to choose a candidate. Can anyone explain?

Also, would Hillary Clinton not have been a prospective candidate? Or has she completely withdrawn from wanting to be president?

This is all irrelevant since the deal is done to the satisfaction of the democratic party as evidenced by the roll call/vote that chose Harris after Biden dropped out.

Harris is the nominee.

There was no mechanism for choosing previous candidates for president in previous democratic primaries—those votes or that self nomination didn’t hold over in any legal, social, or moral sense.

Don’t worry, the US will never be able to be more embarrassed by another president having had Trump, no matter how hard they try!

I know I said I was going to leave this thread and I will after this post. I just feel that I have to correct the misinformation (again). Stolen Valor means claiming that you saw combat action when you didn’t. This is actually a federal offense and deeply offensive to veterans. Walz said he fought on the battlefield when he didn’t.

You have to be a complete dolt to think that a woman who is known for her cackling (in inappropriate situations) and her incomprehensible word salads, and who was the most unpopular VP in history is somehow fit to be leader of the free world because of media rebranding.

She is hugely enthusiastic about the mutilation and sterilisation of children, which is reason enough to detest her. But even putting that aside, she hasn’t had a sinfle unscripted appearance or interview since she was handed the nomination. She has literally never had to answer any difficult questions about her record on the border for example.

Hate Trump all you want but it is utterly undemocratic to not face questioning when going for the most powerful job on the planet. Her identity is not reason itself to make her president!

False. Just false. The Army National Guard did not deploy in military situations until Iraq. He served for 24 years and retired without deploying to Iraq since he had gone deaf. He did not make combat claims.

As well he should. The AR-15 was invented for military use, to compete with the AK-47. I dare say you'll find few people on a predominantly British website who think civilians should own one. The manufacturers hugely promoted AR-15s as sport weapons.

And as for Trump - he said John McCain was a loser due to him being imprisoned and tortured as a POW for five years. Trump managed to get a series of deferments and then a medical note to avoid the draft. He called American soldiers who died in war 'Losers' and 'Suckers'.

Harris just doesn’t seem to have enough presence and character to carry the electorate with her. Rightly or wrongly the impression given is she’s done little as VP and was picked as a running mate principally to tick a couple of diversity boxes. She may be great, but she’s not sold herself as leader material to the public and that’s what she’ll have to do to get over the line. Maybe things will change as the campaign ramps up but they better get a move on or it’ll be too late for the Democrats.
