Just to get it out of the way - I am completely against Trump being elected President. I'm pretty excited to see Kamala being officially nominated, and looking forward to her fighting a strong campaign - albeit slightly nervously. Anyone else?

She's a word salad moron, with a highly inappropriate demeanour that flips from maniacal laughter to faux seriousness. That viral "to be unencumbered by what has been" video basically sums her up.

Again, more posts labelling Kamala Harris as stupid, when objectively she has held incredibly demanding roles which require significant intellect. This really typifies what women are up against- she could have a PhD in nuclear energy and I suspect she would still be accused of using sex to get ahead. The misogyny is astounding!

Because objectively, any criticism of Harris on this thread is true for Trump by many multiples.

Plus, she isn't a criminal and nor has she attempted to undermine democracy or encouraged treasonous actions.

He was quated on the news regarding drinking bleach fact.and the word hate its a strong word there is a fine line betwen love and hate and the word should not be used out of context. We only ever hear slanging matches from him never educated debates and that is concerning, its as though he has a cult following , there is no reasoning , his remarks are quite shocking But if he does win there will be unrest he has an ideology that a country is ruled by dictatorship alone , as he said and I quote "if he wins you will never have to vote again" make of that what you will.

I am not convinced she'll do that well. She was so unpopular before, I tend to think she is really being bigged up by the media. The fact that Democrats are presenting such a united front, and are so relieved that Biden stepped down, plays ito that.

But will it last until the election? All the reasons she was unpopular before will begin to show themselves, is one problem. She was in fact a DEI candidate, Biden did her no favours saying that out loud, If she's done very well it would not matter so much, but she's not really. She's made a bit of a mess in some off the cuff speaking engagements. She was so unpopular last time she made a bid for Dem candidate she gave up almost immediately. She flip flopped around on issues to be more popular.

But I think what might be the real question is whether the swing voters who voted for Trump before would d move to her. She already has the black female vote, but I don't really see her winning back the black men who left or Hispanic voters - they felt quite betrayed by Obama. She will have a tricky line to walk with abortion - Trump has kind of defused it in many ways for himself by kicking it to the states to manage, but her voters will want her to talk about it, and the Dem attitude seems to be one that does not always speak to middle road voters - particularly that Hispanoc vote. Trump has also been strategic I think in picking Vance, who is indeed weird, but is also known as a huge union supporyer. The Democrats ave not had a great history there of late, many more socialist voters felt really betrayed by Obama's union busting. And the stuff with trans issues is a huge weak spot for her because of her personal support and her tendency to be very authoritarian on issues. Many less natural Dem voters are really up in arms about the boxing stuff at the moment and the ways schools etc are behaving - and it's not just the issue directly, but they think it makes her look like a dangerous idiot - who will support their 13 years olds getting mastectomies. Can she row that back without looking like she is flip flopping again.

I think it's completely unserious and obtuse to argue that she could be worse than Trump. Even setting his awful personal characteristics and history aside - he encouraged a violent insurrection against the institutions of democracy so not liking her laugh or just stating that she wasn't a very prominent VP as reasons not to vote for her seems a deeply frivolous position.
It's a slightly strange situation as it feels like almost any Democratic candidate would be better than Trump. KH is clearly not perfect (who is) and I don't love the strategy of calling Trump and Vance 'weird' as it seems so puerile but I am more hopeful than I have been in many months that Trump can be beaten.

To answer the OP's question, I'm obsessed with the presidential race since Joe Biden stepped down. I've probably read every article about Kamala in the New York Times and the Guardian, and signed up to a bunch of new podcasts as well. After a while I realised I was probably in a left-wing bubble, so I've deliberately been reading right-wing critiques of her, and trying to find right-wing podcasts as well.

The only right-wing podcast I can really stand to listen to is Megyn Kelly's. She's the ex-Fox News presenter about whom Trump said "She had blood coming out of her wherever." She uses her previous combative relationship with Trump to prove JD Vance could be be sincere when he transformed his opinion of Trump - because she has as well.

She has long-form interviews with conservatives who do make good points, and I'm glad I'm listening to the other side. But not the most famous nutcases like Hannity.

Can Kamala's wave of popularity carry her beyond the Republicans' in-built electoral college advantage?

I also find it somewhat annoying but the polls are showing that American voters - amongst whom I count - see through it

She had a relationship with Willie Brown, a California politician, in the early 90s, that ended in 1995. He's much older than she is and had been separated from his wife for a decade. Not the relationship I'd particularly want my daughter to have, but she was an adult and it's her business.
