Now that she's the official nominee, is anyone else excited about Kamala Harris's chances?

Just to get it out of the way - I am completely against Trump being elected President. I'm pretty excited to see Kamala being officially nominated, and looking forward to her fighting a strong campaign - albeit slightly nervously. Anyone else?

You're adding that - he didn't.

It’s a moot point now anyway as he can’t unilaterally decide to leave NATO. He will need a 2/3 majority in the senate to enact that.

Valeriekat · 03/08/2024 03:00

Given how awful she has been as veep, no!
Have you not paid attention during the last 4 years?

Specific examples?

Specific examples?

Well, she was appointed by Biden to tackle the border crisis. She never went to the
boarder and then when asked if she had been to the boarder she said “no, I haven’t been to Europe either. I don’t understand the point you’re making” Just bizarre behavior from a senior politician

But the President could certainly decide whether or not to come to the aide of a European "ally", and Trump said he never would.

Again, if you're an American and think isolatitionism is the way forward I guess that's your prerogative, it just doesn't make any real sense for Europeans to want anything other than a Harris win.

BlackForestCake · 02/08/2024 18:45

No –– she's a genocidal monster, no better than Trump.

Is she a convicted fraudster?
Is she a repeat sexual assailant?
Has she ever tried to subvert democracy by asking officials to "find" votes for her?
Has she ever tried to subvert democracy by launching a violent mob on the White House when a vote hasn't gone her way?

No? That makes her better than Trump.

Well NATO is by it’s inception

  • an attack on one is an attack on all.
poetryandwine · 03/08/2024 04:34

@Molly70 It pains me to say it when considering Trump, but there is a long, sporadic history of US presidents occasionally terminating treaties. It hasn’t caused much controversy.

It takes a 2/3 vote in the Senate to enact a treaty

I have. Have you not been paying attention to Trump over the past 8 years?

If I was American I’d vote for Trump because he’s already been president so I know the world can survive a Trump presidency.

I’ve no idea if the world can survive a Harris presidency.

Then I am very glad you aren’t. There are enough people making choices in this way which makes zero sense

Aussieland · 03/08/2024 05:43

FayeGreener · 02/08/2024 22:11

It’s happened under his watch therefore he has to take a certain amount of responsibility for it. Presumably he could have done something to stop it happening.

In the last couple of weeks while trying to deal with the transition of power and make policy plans he should have entirely turned around the far right in the UK? Sure. People don’t just suddenly decide not to be racist thugs because there is a new government.

on the other hand a Trump presidency would bring them all out and legitimise them in the USA which may seep across and is not good

Aussieland · 03/08/2024 05:46

Justcallmebebes · 02/08/2024 22:39

Yes, look into why she climbed the ladder. Far more of who she knew and slept with rather than what she knew

Wow. This is absolute misogynistic disgusting crap and you should be ashamed of yourself. You do know that what Trump and Vance say isn’t gospel truth right? No wonder they are even in the race when people will believe anything they and their mouthpieces say.

I don’t think you can prove that all deaths were caused by the riots. For example some cause of deaths being myocardial infarction (heart attack). They were likely unrelated. Stress is not a big risk factor for MI.

Stress of a group of rioters trying to overthrow the government where you feel the weight of the world and democracy on your shoulders, without the president saying a word to help protect you. Not really entirely unrelated possibly

hattie43 · 03/08/2024 07:04

I don't know much about her but from the snippets I've seen she doesn't seem a good orator and wouldn't get me excited .
M incredulous a country the size of the USA can't find stronger candidates.

MacDonaldandHobNobs · 03/08/2024 07:09

Just seen some great news regarding the Jan 6 riots.

Because of the Supreme Court presidential immunity ruling, Judge Chutkin is now required to consider the Jan 6 evidence to determine what were presidential acts and what weren't. Which means she should announce early next week evidentiary hearings in the next weeks/months (before election) in which Jack Smith and the DoJ can publicly present all of their evidence on what Donald Trump's role was in the Capitol riots. Most of it has been unseen until now. There's apparently some real bombshells in the evidence from Trump's own inner circle.

So essentially it's a public mini trial to determine what charges will be brought against Trump.

This is great news for the American people who can really evaluate their Republican candidate and what he is really capable of doing when he doesn't want to relinquish power.

The question wasn't about Trump, was it? Enough with the "but what about Trump?!" comeback any time another candidate or potential candidate is being discussed. It is so fucking tedious. The question was about Harris, as was my answer.

😂Dont be so deliberately fucking obtuse (or just plain fucking stupid?)! It's fucking implicit, given that it's a binary fucking choice between two fucking candidates, it's a perfectly valid fucking point to make. If you would prefer Trump, at least fucking own it! 🙄

DiamondGoldandSilver · 03/08/2024 08:03

Pretty shocking that posters are saying Kamala was promoted to District Attorney and Attorney General because of who she slept with. No one is that good in bed! It’s such a myth that success women are promoted because of who they sleep with. It’s pretty offensive.

DiamondGoldandSilver · 03/08/2024 08:06

I think the poster who has accused Kamala of sleeping her way into senior roles should post the source for this, or apologise.

DiamondGoldandSilver · 03/08/2024 08:08

Also- she was elected to the role of Attorney General and elected as District Attorney. Unless she slept with all the voters it was literally impossible for her to use sex to become elected. PP really needs to apologise for spreading misogynistic misinformation.

Fedupmeds · 03/08/2024 01:45

Absolutely agree , repulsive and vitriol to be expected, they are like school children. Behaviour is appalling and hostile.

School children are the ones that use childless words like “Orange Baboon “ in these threats. Also, lies are coming from everywhere. I also want evidence of where did Trump advise people to inject themselves with bleach? How is he supporting a think tank that proposed project 25 and many other things that people listen and exaggerates and change.

The fact that people hate Trump does not mean Biden, Kamala and the duplicitous bunch that is the Democrats are much better. Have people been paying attention but it also seem cultish now. Denying facts and foaming is not the way to win elections.

Westfacing · 03/08/2024 08:22

If I were an American I would vote for Harris as president rather than Trump, but wouldn't be excited.

She and Biden have presided over the carnage in Gaza with barely a critical word - so no excitement from me. I can't stand Trump with his small brain and stupid rhetoric but deep down I don't really care who wins.

DamnUserName21 · 03/08/2024 08:22

Unfortunately, KH stands no chance against DT.

Trump seems to bounce back from everything: bankruptcy, rape and sexual harassment allegations, bad press, conviction, and still gets nominated. What does that tell you!!

He is popular in Republican states, has prolife and gun lobbies, and he is a rich, white man. He will win be taking the electoral college.

Hope I'm wrong but doubtful.

cheezncrackers · 03/08/2024 08:23

I feel the Dems' chances are considerably improved but it's not a shoo-in. From what I'm seeing, Trump and GOP are running scared BUT in know I'm in a bit of a lefty echo chamber online. IRL there are plenty of people who will still vote for him for some ungodly reason.

Some people will always vote Republican, in the same way that some people will always vote Conservative, because there are certain policies that are Republican that appeal - small government, low taxes, etc. And there are things that a decent chunk of US voters liked about Trump's first government, even if they didn't like him personally - things like protectionism, isolationism, strong borders, tough talk with allies, etc, those go down very well with a lot of voters who think that America and Americans should come first. So there are the hardcore Republican supporters, the people who love Trump and all he stands for, and those who will hold their noses and vote for the candidate they consider the least worst option - like we do here.
