to not want to contribute money towards a wedding present collection

for some random woman in my department?

Another person has sent an email round saying she'll be coming round to collect money for a wedding gift. A couple of months ago I was sent an email asking me to the hen night (the email went to all the female staff in the dept) - I didn't go as I thought it was a bit odd.

I don't work with this woman though we are in the same department. I don't know her, I have never met her husband. I don't want to contribute frankly. I have enough people in my family having birthdays and getting married thank you.

Thing is I know that if I don't then it will get round and everyone will bitch about it.

what do you do in situations like this?

We have this birthday card system. About once a week I get about 3 cards shoved at me to sign, which I do. I never know who they are for, though. Then I eat the cakes they bring in of course.

Ah happy, don't resent it. I know how I manage my money, you know how you manage yours. We all have different priorities. There is not need for resentment

Triggles, can you tell work that sending Christmas cards is so over!

Far better to put out a donations tin (near the coffee machine*) and a sign-up list. Then send an email round to everyone wishing everyone a merry christmas on behalf of everyone else and in lieu of cards the department's collection has raised £x which will be donated to

*As list and tin are near coffee machine, everyone is likely to go up there sometime. Those that can't afford to donate can sign up to wish their colleagues merry christmas anyway.

LOL Sue - they don't send them, but they put them in everyone's work bins. So annoying! Can't they just SAY Happy Christmas and be done with it?
