Why are people in Hartlepool and London rioting following the horrific Southport stabbings? I understand it seems to be the far right but what are they actually rioting about? I genuinely don’t understand-the news doesn’t seem to say an actual agenda. What do they want?

If his parents had legal right to remain in the uk, from whatever their immigration route was, then their children would be able to be British citizens. Other countries have different systems and rules. Many countries allow anyone who has residency to take a citizenship test and apply for naturalisation and become a citizen of that country.

Yes of course it would make you Italian! And Scottish. My husband’s father is Scottish actually and DH was born and raised abroad. He’s as ‘of that country’ as you can imagine, no one believes his Dad is Scottish at first. DH is more foreign than Scottish. Of course, he’s white, as is that country mainly, so that stops questions/riots/finger pointing. The UK is historically one of the most invaded countries on earth, there really is no ‘true’ British beyond being born here or having British parents.

I get the British citizen/ Italian citizen - I just can't get my head round calling myself Italian if my parents were Scottish etc.

@OneFrenchEgg if you were born in Italy, grew up in Italy speaking Italian, going to an Italian school with Italian friends... why wouldn't you think of yourself as Italian? Maybe Scottish as well, of course.

Some people in my area are planning and promoting a 'peaceful protest'. I asked what the protest was about and was told 'how many more British people have to die?' When I asked what they were referring to, they got a bit confused. I can certainly tell you that they all seemed really thick and were spoiling for a fight. No facts at all, just regurgitating sm nonsense. I would rather live in a street of illegal immigrants than a street of them. They paint themselves as 'defending England' but have never done anything positive for England, or their own community, in their lives. They are an embarrassing drain on society for the most part. Rubbish lives and desperate to blame someone else for that.

Further info on this- a man was arrested for bringing a knife to the vigil (to be clear- not the original 17 year old perpetrator of the stabbing, another man). Photos circulated online claiming her was Asian/arab and this was used as a “reason” to attack the mosque. It has now been released by police and reported in the press that the man was Jordan Davies, a far right thug. See screenshots from X (Twitter) below.

He's a young black man, with Rwandan parents. He was born in Cardiff but only lived there until he was 6. I don't know why they keep referring to Wales, when he only spent the first part of his life there.

A black 17 year-old born in Wales, to Christian parents from Rwanda, murdered three children on Monday and severely injured many more children.

The thick, ignorant, racist halfwits of our society assumed this heinous crime was carried out by an Asian “illegal migrant” who arrived to this country on a dinghy from Calais.

They “want our country back”, although I’m not entirely sure who currently has our country and where it is.

It’s all quite confusing. Rioting, looting and hurling bricks at police officers and mosques in the name of three deceased children by a lone, most likely radicalised, psychopath. I honestly despair.

A local town to me, Wath-Upon-Dearne in Rotherham: residents are planning a ‘peaceful protest’ outside of a Holiday Inn hotel on Sunday where asylum seekers are currently being housed. There is a post on social media advertising this and hundreds of comments full of vile, racist shite.

Although none of them can actually explain the reason for the upcoming protest apart from “taking the country back”.

An Asian owned Mini-Mart was targeted as part of the riots- windows smashed, stock looted such as alcohol, cigarettes and sweets and chocolates and aisles smashed up. The owner was interviewed on the BBC news.

They are just twisting it all to make some kind of weak connection to what they see as their cause. Then they have an excuse to go and cause trouble/set fire to stuff/violence.

It’s funny how they’ve tried to make the Islam connection to then target mosques when he may not even be Muslim - but they haven’t been the slightest bit bothered at the news he apparently was once in a west End theatre show and have made no attempt to say all actors are a problem ! They just have a set agenda and will take any opportunity to get out there and be racist twats

I worked with a lovely colleague, a really sweet person. When she had a baby she didn’t do fb so a mutual friend suggested I looked on the dh’s fb site for baby pics and I was shocked at the racism on there.
Someone obviously said something because his page is very private now.
It horrifies me that his 2 beautiful dc will grow up to have racist views.

I don't get why BBC news is making a big deal out of the perpetrator being diagnosed with autism. What has that got to do with it? After this weeks riots they never fucking learn do they? Idiots.

Can you coherently explain these points with evidence from credible sources please? As perhaps, like the OP, I need this explaining to me like a 5 year old.

Very confusing to know what they are rioting about, but I think the reason is possibly immigration. These are young working class men, in the main, who feel disaffected and ignored by those is power.

Many, I guess, are unemployed and angry with how they have left behind in terms of jobs, housing etc. This is not in any way supporting what they are doing, far from it. Just offering a possible reason.

For a time Mumsnet was allowing itself to be used for spreading the same rumour.

You think people being rude and inconsiderate, and there being gang violence, is new? Which decade are you suggesting was polite and law-abiding, and how old were you then?

You think the reason that so many people were so eager to believe the lies that those girls were killed by an illegal asylum seeker had nothing to do with racism?

Their method for this involves starting fires, damaging property, beating up police, all while dressed in a Fred Perry, a tracksuit and a too tight pair of jeans with a can of Stella in the back pocket.
As soon as they’re finished their great work there, they’ll go back on the train to ‘protecting the war memorials’ until football starts back up.

@Dibbydoos That still doesn't explain why they're taking the tragic deaths of young children as a gleeful fucking excuse to throw bricks and terrorise people who were quite literally nothing to do with that attack. Imagine being one of those grieving parents and your child's death being made all about the oh so poor, marginalised white men who are full of hate. If people want "their country" back why don't they fucking contribute. Volunteer at charities, youth groups, anything.

It's like people who complain about how we should "help our homeless veterans first" - I volunteered for years for homeless charities and I can honestly say not one of the other volunteers were the ones spouting that shite. The ones saying it wouldn't be interested in actually helping anyone but themselves.
