Long standing close friend came round for dinner and we were nattering away, and she just mentioned off hand in the conversation that she had voted Reform. i am really shocked. We don't discuss politics much. But I would have guessed lib dems or labour. I love her dearly. But I do wonder if I should think about her differently now, or just carry on as before

YANBU - She is not such a good person as I thought all these years
YABU-its all fine

Makes up claims? I don't think opining that someone isn't very nice is a "claim". That's just an opinion.
You're the one who is so scared of google proving you wrong....

Google has not proven me wrong until it has come back with some credible information, it has not and you have not been able to prove to anyone that it has, it's a simple copy and past of your evidence you refuse to share for us to discuss

StaunchMomma · 01/08/2024 15:30

If I'm absolutely honest, I would be sickened to hear that too and I wouldn't look at them the same.

orchiddottyback · 01/08/2024 15:28

No one cares if they like us or not what we care about is backing up what they say, if your going to the holier than thou approach. Make sure your not acting like you are labeling others.

I am afraid just like not necessarily being your friend, nor can you tell me what I may do. That is the great freedom we all have in choosing friends, making remarks, and exercising judgment

MrsSkylerWhite · 01/08/2024 00:22

It does if they’re racists. .

Do you think all reform voters are racist? Are people who question immigration policy or are worried about radical islamists racist?

No one asked anyone on here to be their friend? What are you talking about please explain?

I do like your technique but obviously it is a bit simple.

I wasted time earlier googling and sending a long response to your request for quotes. I copied and pasted individual quotes and sent a link. Several other posters also sent evidence. All you need to do is scroll back until you find all our posts. Seems you can't be bothered to read them and would prefer to keep saying we can't provide evidence (when we already have). It's rather convenient that you haven't found them, I must say!
I have no idea if people in this country will be prosecuted for the types of remarks he makes. Seems that he and many others (Laurence Fox etc) get away with making all sorts of offensive remarks.
Farage has also made remarks about women, saying a woman who takes maternity leave is of less value and that he has these views because he's impregnated so many we over the past. That breastfeeding women should sit in the corner.
This is why I and others don't like him and would think less favourably of people who did. If you think he's the sort of man who's worth defending, that's up to you.

Farage has 4 children with 2 different women, so ...........

Because? Please be specific. For the record I didn’t vote reform, I’m just wondering why people are having such a strong reaction to the point of changing their entire opinion of a friend

You have completely lost me? not the first time this thread is full of people making claims with no substance.

bombastix · 01/08/2024 15:35

Maybe you can explain @orchiddottyback . Start where you were at the beginning of the thread and play your notes again. Points however will only be awarded for new arguments

Yet more word salad and no direct link. To be honest I didn't bother to read it's pointless to ask for a simple web link to evidence even a video, so we can see the full context of the conversation you are quoting and when it was said.

I find your response rather rude when I told you I spent significant time copying and pasting individual quotes for you.
I'm most certainly not going to find video links for every remark Nigel Farage has made (I do have a life and have wasted too much time on this already).
Here's a link to an article about Nigel Farage racism and sexism:

www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/nigel-farage-most-controversial-moments-reform-ukip-brexit-b1122381.html

There are dozens of other articles on racism within Reform for those who wish to Google.

2dogsandabudgie · 01/08/2024 15:33

Oh I absolutely believe Farage is a misogynist and I’m happy to give direct quotes if anyone was to question me why.
I’d not vote for him based on that alone but I wouldn’t judge a friend if she did. After all, misogyny is pretty rampant across all the main political parties. I’d have a very small friendship group if I was to do that.

Everanewbie · 01/08/2024 15:42

I think asking your 'friend' why she voted for Reform would tell you more about her views. She might believe that £20,000 is a more appropriate personal tax allowance than £12,570 where there is this stupid charade of low earners paying tax then having some returned to them in tax credits.

Or perhaps that immigration is out of control and that we should limit immigration to what works for us, not the rest of the world. Perhaps she thinks that the current NHS model is unsustainable and needs reform. All pretty reasonable views. I could debate that and have respect for those opinions.

Perhaps she just wants all muslims slung out and foreign languages banned. Very unreasonable. That's just nasty and racist.

RosaRoja · 01/08/2024 15:42

@SallyWD i think the PP are being goady and feign ignorance, despite the many links in answers, want someone to lose their rag so they can cry about the nasty lib who used bad words towards them.

orchiddottyback · 01/08/2024 15:31

There does seem to be the idea from the op that the decision to grant friendship is with her

Maybe the friend will find out the op has been writing negative mn threads and decide for the op

RosaRoja · 01/08/2024 15:44

Apropos of this, have you seen Trump complaining like a big baby about a journalist being nasty? He’s such a creep. Apologies for the derail but it was almost funny. In fact it’s scary.

Edit to add the journo was t being nasty. She was just telling him the disgusting words he’d used. He shat the bed at that.

Okay thanks for the link.

First of all it's a very bias article but lets that slide and its an opinion piece.
Lets also be clear it is full of words that state alleged, it is also full of snippets of information that have been taken out of context or no full context or commentary given. It would not pass for an unbiased bit of evidence as its just an opinion piece.

The piece also refers to plenty of instances where he is not the issue or was not directly part of the issue take the debanking scandal, or just friends with Trump does that make him guilty of any thing no it does not.

The bit on Russia and Putin has zero content as I know the full story and its a one line quotation from a full dialogue he had when questioned about russia and that quote had been deliberately misrepresented as its taken the one line out of a full discussion.

That's not factual evidence may be you need to learn what factual evidence is, it's certainly not an opinion piece from someone who clearly dislikes him i can get that from here.

1 for effort.

bombastix · 01/08/2024 15:49

Well he’s a likely narcissist so they hate people joining stuff together like that. You see you are supposed to forget that stuff

Edited

He's utterly repulsive.

But as he's Nigel's mate I'm sure someone will be along momentarily to tell you that you're slandering Trump and to repeatedly demand you post video links and full transcripts of conversations to prove that he is in fact a creep.
