Long standing close friend came round for dinner and we were nattering away, and she just mentioned off hand in the conversation that she had voted Reform. i am really shocked. We don't discuss politics much. But I would have guessed lib dems or labour. I love her dearly. But I do wonder if I should think about her differently now, or just carry on as before

YANBU - She is not such a good person as I thought all these years
YABU-its all fine

Okay thanks for the link.

First of all it's a very bias article but lets that slide and its an opinion piece.
Lets also be clear it is full of words that state alleged, it is also full of snippets of information that have been taken out of context or no full context or commentary given. It would not pass for an unbiased bit of evidence as its just an opinion piece.

The piece also refers to plenty of instances where he is not the issue or was not directly part of the issue take the debanking scandal, or just friends with Trump does that make him guilty of any thing no it does not.

The bit on Russia and Putin has zero content as I know the full story and its a one line quotation from a full dialogue he had when questioned about russia and that quote had been deliberately misrepresented as its taken the one line out of a full discussion.

That's not factual evidence may be you need to learn what factual evidence is, it's certainly not an opinion piece from someone who clearly dislikes him i can get that from here.

1 for effort.

What was it you said to someone upthread...word salad?

How unfortunate that one man's remarks are so very, very frequently "taken out of context" so as to appear racist. Just trying to imagine any context where those remarks are ok and coming up short.

"coming up short."

I fully agree with you there, I have quoted you in exactly the same way and I now have evidence from your own person that you have admitted you are coming up short.

Trump’s latest cacophony yesterday. He spits his dummy out in the first 3 minutes and it’s downhill from there. But it’s derailing the thread and I’m off to the cinema.

Most people seem to manage to get through life without dancing so close to overt hate speech don't they?

Most people don't like being misquoted, but it seems some on here see that as evidence, but when its happens to them they don't like it. Funny that 🤔

So just to be clear, all the racist remarks Farage has been reported to make, the ones that have been linked to on this thread and reported by multiple news sources, you're saying he was misquoted? Every single time?

What about the comments he's made on the radio, did they get a voice actor to impersonate him?

As i have asked many many times, if he made racist remarks he would have broken the law and been investigated by the police, hence the article said alleged.

When has farage ever been investigated and charged for racial hatred or racist remarks. If they are documented so well and evidenced then obviously he has broken the law and will have been charged or investigated.

Otherwise these allegations have zero meaning. If you feel you have valid evidence and proof he is racist then report him to the authorities and i will welcome seeing the results.

You'd begrudge an elderly person an extra £10 at Christmas. Wow.

You're as bad as the person on another thread who suggested that elderly people struggling to pay their heating bills should save towards it by not going out once a week for a coffee. This same person then said that they were planning to save £100,000 for their 2 children to go to uni and another £100,000 to help with house deposits.

Absolutely no idea what poverty is. Yep the left are really starting to show their true colours.

It's not about grudging an elderly person an extra £10 at Christmas. The bonus hasn't gone up in years, has ceased to be as meaningful as it was and in my opinion can be dispensed with.

And I'm a state pension recipient myself.

2dogsandabudgie · 01/08/2024 14:23

How would you know who your friends voted for unless you asked them. I never ask people who they vote for, it's none of my business. I'm probably friends with people from all the parties, I really have no idea, so many other things to talk about.

In the case of the OP she says her friend told her. She seemingly didn't ask.

Your continued insistence that a person cannot possibly be a racist unless they have been investigated and convicted of a criminal offence is utterly baffling.

What he said about maternity leave isn’t wrong, though….

T1Dmama · 01/08/2024 16:37

I know people who voted differently from me…. Thank god we live in a democratic society!!
My ex husband was a good man, fought for our country, worked hard, … he messaged me and revealed he’d voted reform .. He has friends of all nationalities and cultures, worked along side lots of people from the common wealth while in the majesties services… however he was massively against human trafficking and illegal immigration (not to be confused with genuine asylum seekers). I think he agrees with a lot of what Nigel Forage says… believes he’s the one who will deliver on what Brexit was promised to be (but hasn’t been).. etc… the slogans like ‘make Britain great again’… I think some people are just desperate for change..

Well for any normal person quite possibly they may not, but such a high profile figure who has every word uttered recorded and plastered all over the media, its extremely strange they can come out with racist, Islamophobic and xenophobic statements and not be investigated.

After all its all public knowledge not like someone muttering it in a pub or in a private place.

Same for GB news and Reform they are such public facing organisations surely they will also be immediately investigated and reported it would be wholly strange if they were not.

Oh now you want me to provide evidence of something, no you pick a quote from your imaginary arsenal. You have yet to provide me anything i asked for so you first.

You obviously are grasping on to a I got you, which does not exist. Are you asking to to pick a quote from an opinion piece that had strong bias to farage? or do you want to still provide me evidence of his racist, Islamophobic and xenophobic statements.

You claimed that way way back and still not have provided any proof so you first provide me the proof from previously, then we can hold me at the same scrutiny as yourself or will you now try to squirm out of It again.

Well you described them as "misquotes" and ranted about context, so I think you do accept that they exist.

You previously described Farage as a man that has spoken and written racist, Islamophobic and xenophobic statements. Yet here we are where are they?

You first, please stop grasping at straws. I have asked plenty of times before you asked me anything. you have refused to provide me anything. So it's about time you did something. Come on were all waiting for you.

I didn't say that. Other posters might have. Other posters have also linked to what you have described as "misquotes" taken out of context, so select one and we assess whether or not it is in fact a "misquote".

Hmm. Not sure I entirely agree. Its like saying Labour are the party of workshy commie scroungers who want something for nothing, open boarder enthusiasts except for Jews, sorry, zionists who are evil. Those people do exist and gravitate toward Labour and the Greens, possibly that moron Galloway too. But is it fair to characterise Labour voters that way? I don' think so.

Do racists gravitate to Reform? In my experience, yes. But I think many of their voters are natural Tories who became sick of their ineptitude and broken promises, and people who have very real concerns about society working for everybody but them. If you don't listen and address these concerns, their vote will go elsewhere.

So do you apply the same logic to people on PIP who get the £10 Christmas bonus or is it just the elderly you would like to see suffer even more, after all a lot of pensioners this year will be struggling to pay their heating bills.
