shocked my best friend voted Reform

Long standing close friend came round for dinner and we were nattering away, and she just mentioned off hand in the conversation that she had voted Reform. i am really shocked. We don't discuss politics much. But I would have guessed lib dems or labour. I love her dearly. But I do wonder if I should think about her differently now, or just carry on as before

YANBU - She is not such a good person as I thought all these years
YABU-its all fine

@Fluufer - of course it’s a repellent idea but the point is that not a few Reform voters regard diversity and inclusion as exactly that, a situation where they are forced to be pleasant, whereas really many would like the following

“I don’t usually like your sort but you’re alright”

(my judgment…)

I haven't made any claims. I think Farage is a twat. I've no interest in "proving" it to you. Evidence has been posted previously, if you can't be bothered then fine.
It's probably actually easier for you to give example of when Farage isn't saying something nasty.

So the time it took for you to type that, according to you, you could have provided a link to prove me wrong.

Very odd way of having a discussion. 😂

VerySadCase · 01/08/2024 15:07

orchiddottyback · 01/08/2024 15:01

You keep saying the evidence is there to google it unfortunately it is not?
You are obviously far more skilled than most of us, so share.

Also it is not for me to prove your accusations, believe it or not its for you to prove he is what you claim. I'm not the one making these accusations or slurs.

I don't think you need any particular googling skills. There is tons online but if you don't want to engage with it or if you're not capable of understanding it, I can't help.

I've posted tons of evidence on here over the years, but I've realised that some people aren't worth the effort.

In any case, I'm not really sure why anyone is so bothered by this thread in any case? Why you even want to be friends with someone who thinks that you're a deeply unpleasant person? Surely you can see that you would have nothing in common with people who find your views repugnant? Don't you want to mix with people who like and respect you?

So no evidence to back up your slander then, as I expect all hot air. Welcome to the TICTOK generation.

BloodyHellKenAgain · 01/08/2024 15:09

Aligning beliefs is one of the ways I know how compatible I am with someone and this how much time amd effort I shpuld put into the relationship.

I find this quite an unpleasant attitude and one I've heard time and time again, usually from someone who is into leftwing politics.

Someones personal beliefs and who they vote for are their business and notcyo be disclosed at will do others csn check you are 'the right sort of person'.

Whatever happened to making friends with someone just because you seem to get on ?

FayeGreener · 01/08/2024 15:10

I’m still waiting for someone to post a list of Reform’s “racist policies”.

Surely it can’t be that there aren’t any?!?!

Its almost like they’re a completely ordinary right-of-centre party rather than a cabal of evil Nazis.

Do you get on with people whose views you find morally repugnant?

It sounds like you must have very superficial friendships if you really don't care what kind of people your friends are?

Tarquina · 01/08/2024 15:14

Well at least the reform party knows what a woman is

Well in the adult world most of us are grown up enough to do so.

Natbro · 01/08/2024 15:15

you would be doing her a favour if you stopped being friends wither her. I Would never give someone as judgemental as you the time of day! I voted labour btw before anyone suggests anything.

I just don't get it. Talking politics doesn't have to be quizzing them on their voting practicing, or favourite policies. It's basic chit chat about current affairs, the news, what happened in a soap opera. All that kind of stuff just comes up as you get to know someone. If your values don't align, you don't end up friends in the first place surely?

scatterolight · 01/08/2024 15:17

AvrielFinch · 01/08/2024 14:26

None of my friends would vote for Reform UK in a million years. I know.

I was once sat next to my best friend at work while she regaled the whole office about "Who on earth would vote Leave. Has anyone even MET ANYONE who would vote Leave? WHO ARE THESE AWFUL PEOPLE?". Yes, dear reader, I voted Leave.

That's the problem with Lefties, so convinced of their own righteousness they pour out their bile into the ether with no conception anyone might think differently.

Try watching GB news at 6 tonight Dewbs is on there is even a lefty for you. There is a thing called common ground and adults are grown enough to find one.

You don't have to agree with everything about another person you can have friends with join interests only or maybe that's too complicated for some to comprehend.

Sorry I can't see the links. care to share them their are so many. Also if you claim he was racist why was he not charged or investigated by the police?

You have failed to provide any link to where he was found guilty or do you believe the justice system in the country does not apply to you?

Guilty until proven innocent if he was so bad he would have a criminal record for it, so where is it?

Edited

I wasted time earlier googling and sending a long response to your request for quotes. I copied and pasted individual quotes and sent a link. Several other posters also sent evidence. All you need to do is scroll back until you find all our posts. Seems you can't be bothered to read them and would prefer to keep saying we can't provide evidence (when we already have). It's rather convenient that you haven't found them, I must say!
I have no idea if people in this country will be prosecuted for the types of remarks he makes. Seems that he and many others (Laurence Fox etc) get away with making all sorts of offensive remarks.
Farage has also made remarks about women, saying a woman who takes maternity leave is of less value and that he has these views because he's impregnated so many we over the past. That breastfeeding women should sit in the corner.
This is why I and others don't like him and would think less favourably of people who did. If you think he's the sort of man who's worth defending, that's up to you.

Yet more word salad and no direct link. To be honest I didn't bother to read it's pointless to ask for a simple web link to evidence even a video, so we can see the full context of the conversation you are quoting and when it was said.

There's no middle ground with Farage in my opinion. You can disagree, but we can't be friends. He is an odious man, I would not trust him to run a bath, let alone a political party or, God forbid, a country.
We don't have to agree, nor do we have to be friends. Everyone has a line, this is one of mine.

VerySadCase · 01/08/2024 15:23

orchiddottyback · 01/08/2024 15:14

Well in the adult world most of us are grown up enough to do so.

Well, we all have to get on with some shitty types in work etc.

But we can be more discerning with our friends if we choose to be. Are you really saying that you have no moral standards for your friends whatsoever? I find that hard to believe.

I mean, I get that some people don't care about racism. Perhaps they feel it doesn't affect them or perhaps they are racist themselves etc. Same with things like homophobia, misogyny etc. People have different values and are willing to tolerate different things.

But having no moral standards for your friends at all is quite extreme. Would you want to be friends with someone who argued in favour of legalising paedophilia for example? (Not a perpetrator, to be clear, but someone who actively supported legalising it.) For me, it would be impossible for me to be friends with someone like that because I would find their views so objectionable, but you seem to be saying that different values and opinions shouldn't matter?

That's fine, you have now made it abundantly clear you cast aspersions and accusations with no intent to back up what you say and you prefer only to live and have friends within a narrow echo chamber. It's your life crack on with it no one is having a go about that but. But there is an issue when you call out people without proving or backing up your claims.

I think that's the conversation over then isn't it. No point in arguing with someone who makes claims but is not willing to back them up with any facts.

Makes up claims? I don't think opining that someone isn't very nice is a "claim". That's just an opinion.

No one cares if they like us or not what we care about is backing up what they say, if your going to the holier than thou approach. Make sure your not acting like you are labeling others.
