Long standing close friend came round for dinner and we were nattering away, and she just mentioned off hand in the conversation that she had voted Reform. i am really shocked. We don't discuss politics much. But I would have guessed lib dems or labour. I love her dearly. But I do wonder if I should think about her differently now, or just carry on as before

YANBU - She is not such a good person as I thought all these years
YABU-its all fine

None of my friends would vote for Reform UK in a million years. I know.

Or they would never tell YOU they were voting Reform, as they’re aware of your holier-than-thou attitude. It’s clear many people kept it quiet that they were voting Reform for precisely this reason.

orchiddottyback · 01/08/2024 14:49

It's like talking to AI,

can you provide facts that reform are racists.

My predertimed answer is "they are just racists"

Why?

"According to Twitter they are racists"

Yes AI bot but why, where are the facts?

"According to TICTOC 198,000 Posts and 2 million likes say they are racist"

I give up 😂

Which policies of reform’s are racist?

The leaders of reform are racist, and their policies are very clearly designed to appeal to racists, while just managing to stay on the right side of the law.

It is pretty obvious that a party that was started by a racist and that is led by racists could not be anything other than fundamentally racist at its core.

Even a number of Reform's own candidates quit because of the racism.

You can choose not to see it if you like. Or maybe you voted for them and you don't want to think of yourself as racist. But they are a racist party through and through, and even a little bit of research will evidence this if you actually want to engage with it.

VerySadCase · 01/08/2024 14:33

But how could you be friends with someone if you didn't consider them to be a nice person with values that you share? Why would you want to spend time with someone that you didn't like?

I know lots of people, some are close friends who I see regularly, some friends I see occasionally and others are what I would call acquaintances, mainly other dog walkers who I see whilst out dog walking and who I chat to. All are lovely people. None of them have ever told me who they voted for. But let's say one of them voted Conservative, one Labour and one Reform. It wouldn't change my opinion of them. They would still be the same people whose company I enjoy, and people vote for all kinds of reasons.

FACT CHECK - "The leaders of reform are racist,"

Prove it? have they been investigate or found guilty of racism. Have they been arrested, charged or have ongoing investigations for racism.

Can you provide links to this racism?

Well will all wait whilst you google search feverous again.

VerySadCase · 01/08/2024 14:52

orchiddottyback · 01/08/2024 14:43

So again where are your facts and links please, some credible direct source that all Reform voters are racist or Reform is?

If Reform are how are they still an official part and not faced sanctions, where is the investigation into their racist acts as would be illegal in this country?

They are legitimate government candidates now.

Sorry, I don't have facts and links to prove that my friends aren't racists or far right extremists. I don't conduct background checks, I just use my judgement. It really isn't hard to spot the Reform types to be honest.

bombastix · 01/08/2024 14:54

People are allowed their own judgment. Whatever their politics. I afraid that is part of democracy when it comes to voting.

Reform hired and external company to back ground check their candidate due to the short notice of the elections. One slipped thought and did not leave he was sacked.

All other parties have also previously suspended and sacked candidates for racist remarks in the past. So are they all racists too?

Go on then enlighten us how you spot a reform voter on the street or in the office?

Several of us posted evidence of the racist and sexist things Nigel Farage has said after you asked for quotes. Are you ignoring that and still asking for more evidence?
I'm sure I could Google and find more examples of racism from Reform as a party (as could you) but I'm walking home from work.

Back to this again. I don't need to Google it, I've seen and heard enough over the years to not be in any doubt.

There is a ton of evidence out there but I am not your virtual assistant... do your own googling if you really want to know.

It is not my job to prove to you that Reform is a racist party. The evidence is readily available for anyone that wants to see it. I'm not trying to stop you from voting for Farage and his cronies. It is a democracy. You can vote for who you like, and it's clear that your positions are already entrenched.

All I'm saying is that I reserve the right to be friends with people who hold what I consider to be morally repugnant views. I don't think that's particularly controversial.

Sorry I can't see the links. care to share them their are so many. Also if you claim he was racist why was he not charged or investigated by the police?

You have failed to provide any link to where he was found guilty or do you believe the justice system in the country does not apply to you?

Guilty until proven innocent if he was so bad he would have a criminal record for it, so where is it?

Bloody hell, you're walking home from work and on Mumsnet? Get off it and enjoy the world around you! It's a beautiful day today!

Gogogo12345 · 01/08/2024 15:00

Well judging by the results then thousands of people voted Reform. It's a personal thing and sod all to do with anyone else
I usually vote Tory but couldn't this time and no way on earth would I vote labour so went for Green instead

Read back through the thread. Use the search function. It's not that hard.
And raise your standards. People can be horrid without being criminally horrid.

You keep saying the evidence is there to google it unfortunately it is not?
You are obviously far more skilled than most of us, so share.

Also it is not for me to prove your accusations, believe it or not its for you to prove he is what you claim. I'm not the one making these accusations or slurs.

So again we have another who is not willing to back up their claims, there seems to be a running theme from those throwing mud.

They are able to type reams and reams of insults but very lacking In the evidence department 😂

Quite sure thanks. If reform were in government we would no longer live here.

Paintedmirror · 01/08/2024 15:04

It seems to me that the 4 million plus who voted reform are far more intelligent than the idiots who voted Labour/Con/Libs. You didn't change anything they are all the same. They don't work for you they work for the WEF.

I haven't made any claims. I think Farage is a twat. I've no interest in "proving" it to you. Evidence has been posted previously, if you can't be bothered then fine.
It's probably actually easier for you to give example of when Farage isn't saying something nasty.
