THe upper middle class favour immigration

The upper middle class favour immigration because the alternative would be paying locals more and that would men them paying higher taxes to support the wage demands by care workers/Nurses/council workers etc.

Poor people are affected much more by immigration. Unskilled jobs, social housing. Many immigrants work for less than minimum wage, and they go straight to the front of the social housing queue, especially if they have children. I don't blame them for any of this, I blame the government.

Immigrants don’t go ‘straight to the front of the social housing queue’. If you need social housing and have children, you’re a higher priority than people with no children, but being an immigrant does not make you a higher priority. Please don’t write stuff like this that’s not true.

YourOpinionIsWrong · 31/07/2024 23:50

It’s okay if you are Dutch. Genetically really similar to the English.

Because OP- the reason they have allowed mass immigration in last few years is due to Brexit and large gaps in the workforce. They forgot to mention that on the side of a bus. The fact is the working classes don't want to do certain jobs and would rather not work even if you offer higher money -and why should the workers you mention earn more than a hospital doctor who has 7 years of study and a ton of debt to qualify

Because, the market rules.

I work in a very deprived area and immigration is having a negative impact. That’s not me being racist but a fact. Social tensions are sky high and it all
comes down to housing primarily. Many working classes communities have simply had enough.

I’m sorry about the tensions. The main cause wasn’t immigration though - it was housing. It’s the government’s responsibility to build enough housing.

Owning a chain of care homes has made some owners very rich in the UK. I suppose the problem is that increasing worker's wages would dent the profits, and private businesses can pay what they like as long as it's above NMW.

Migrant worker's have living costs as well you know. Unless they are here illegally and working cash in hand. They also have to pay for their visa for right to remain.

They would if it paid enough. 20 quid an hour, get loads of applicants.

£20 an hour - lol.

£20 x 8 hours x 5 days x 52 weeks = £41,600 = £48,000 (approximately) with on costs x 14 staff = £672,000

£672,000 on nursery staff alone.

Do have any idea what nursery fees would have to be to cover that?

By increasing the charges and taxes on the upper middle class.

I do wonder about some people's thought processes.

This is a good point. I think it would be helpful to nationalise social care, partly because the private care model is not effective and because it’s just making a small group of care home owners very wealthy.

where I am immigrants are getting better housing quicker- locals are left to be ‘homeless from home’- sharing with parents etc whereas immigrants don’t have anyone to be homeless from home with so are moved into the desirable family hostels. Whole hostels now are full of migrants. Plus the local hotels with local people then offered B and Bs miles away. It’s an absolute nightmare.

Because, the market rules.

If you really believed in letting the market rule, you'd be arguing in favour of open borders and an end to immigration control altogether. That's the logical conclusion of the "let the market decide" approach.

Why are ‘immigrants’ being offered better housing? How do you know this?

Please stop perpetuating nonsense. Immigrants do not go to the front of the housing queue. It is points based for all applicants.

Carers definitely deserve higher pay and real career progression opportunities.

Do you think it should be a graduate profession OP, like medicine or nursing?

If only... I think it would be wonderful if the majority of care work was carried out by certified carers who had undergone professional accreditation and were remunerated to reflect this. I just don't understand how we as a society leave the care of our most vulnerable to people who are sometimes quite unsuitable. Someone I'm acquainted with does care work as a second job and I'm really sad about how she talks about it, like the service users are just dozy, leaking parcels who should be grateful for her perfunctory, bare-minimum approach. Oh, and she's as English as they come. And doesn't even try to hide how racist she is.

There is no land to build the housing!! That’s the issue. Local people where I am (NI) don’t want to be housed away from their families and local connections whilst the available housing stock is going to those with no local connection.

stayathomer · 31/07/2024 23:59

The reason people favour immigration is because every human being should have the opportunity to make a decent life for themselves- if you decide you want to relocate to Australia or America or Spain you won’t face a ton of racist shit- why should other people?

Why is the housing stock going to people with no local connection? Have you written to your MP about it?
