I mean how long does it take to write son, daughter, husband? And they're not always darling or dear are they? TBH. My personal bug bears are LOL, IMHO and, most of all, worst of all. AF! Just say period for god's sake! What are we, floral apron wearing, valium munchers, living in middle america in the 1950's?

lilolilmanchester · 14/04/2008 12:23

Bucketandspade, it does sound defensive doesn't it? But I think people just get used to it. Yes, there are lots of throw-away posts but they're not the most useful. Start another thread on something more constructive so we can all have a more positive conversation with you!! Draw a line under this thread and move on (can't tell you how often I've had to do that! Even namechanged for a while after starting a thread I've regretted ever since!)

SheikYerbouti · 14/04/2008 12:23

I'd use sging (shagging) and MC (monthly curse)

but I'm as common as muck, me.

Don;t even get me started on baby-dust

coppertop · 14/04/2008 12:23

I can just imagine what it would be like posting on SN without acronyms:

"My second-born child has an appointment with the Speech and Language therapist and the occupational therapist. Our Consultant Paediatrician at the Child Development Centre has also promised to write a report for our Disability Living Allowance claim and suggests also enclosing a copy of the Individual Educational Plan as further evidence. The following week I will of course be seeing a doctor about my Repetitive Strain Injury brought on by typing posts on the Special Needs board......"

Sorry but YABU.

mrz · 14/04/2008 12:24

DH DS DD & DC MMWTP TBH

MinkyBorage · 14/04/2008 12:24

what's baby dust?

WanderingTrolley · 14/04/2008 12:25

bergentulip look in mn classics for the tickers thread.

If you're feeling very brave, google netmums and babyworld.

Am I wrong to send someone there? Have I committed a sin worse than Froot Shooting?

I say henceforth we all use Latin.

Oblomov · 14/04/2008 12:25

Love it coppertop. I would be like reading War and Peace, just for an explanation, of why your kid hadn't been invited to Timmy's birthday party.

MinkyBorage · 14/04/2008 12:25

MC = Miscarriage, has to be OTB = On The Blob

BucketandSpade · 14/04/2008 12:25

Hubby, you're right, that's even worse. And while we're at it, who calls their partner...well....their partner? Been with mine (and I love him very much too, Omlomov) for 15 years. We have two kids, but "partner"...I just can't get used to it. Will there ever be a good word for unmarried but long term committed. MehgaLegs. So nothing. Just saying.

OP posts:
MinkyBorage · 14/04/2008 12:26

NMBLTC obviously BAS

Oblomov · 14/04/2008 12:27

hey Mamag, I saw your post on Nov antenatal. How you doing ?

bergentulip · 14/04/2008 12:27

Ooooohhh...... jsut went to have a look at 'that other site'..... don't like it. It's all pink, and fluffy around the edges.
Far happier hiding here in the dark depths of MN-
Oooh, those acronyms do it for me every time....

SheikYerbouti · 14/04/2008 12:28

I cxall my partner "slave"

SheikYerbouti · 14/04/2008 12:29

I used to post on BC.

I had a post delteed because I's said cock.

That was the only time I swore on there as well

I can say cunt here, tis marvellous

MamaG · 14/04/2008 12:30

I'm great thanks Ob, how are you?

Tippychick · 14/04/2008 12:32

OMG (!) I have just learnt what "babydancing" means - before I thought it was some weird reference to that dancing baby on AllyMcbeal in the nineties. I'd never seen it used in context obviously, just in a "words I hate" list.

I actually feel a little ill, who would say babydancing? yuk yuk yuk

I don't understand AF though, absent friend? I know it means period but what does it stand for?

Have to say I find it odd that a site used by people who can use the word C%%t freely is also used by those that can't say sex or period.

Slubberdegullion · 14/04/2008 12:33

Aunty Flo apparently, equaully nausea inducing.

Slubberdegullion · 14/04/2008 12:33

or Flow,

was in a bod moment there

bergentulip · 14/04/2008 12:33

Wandering Trolley. Just looked in the classics bit. There was one thread that mentioned 'ticker'. What am I looking for? Sorry to be thick!!!

BucketandSpade · 14/04/2008 12:36

Aunty Flo! It's an American thing, I think. My mum used to say she had the decorators in. My Grandmother used to say "Jane's here." Go figure, as our cousins across the pond would say.

OP posts:
Tigerschick · 14/04/2008 12:37

I really like the acronyms - they make life a lot easier when you are quickly bashing out a post.
However, I am firmly in the 'period' and 'sex' camp - can't stand either af or bd. At a push I might use 'dtd' (doing/did the deed) but as it's 3 letters it's just as quick to type 'sex'!
If you don't like DP why not use OH?
It is very easy to slip into acronyms in RL tho - which just causes people to go

RustyBear · 14/04/2008 12:38

This one, I think bergentulip

Oblomov · 14/04/2008 12:39

Not too bad MamaG. Can I have a tickle too ? I am rolling over as I type. Oh yes, Now I remember, thats what got me into this predicament in the first place. Tickle away.
