I mean how long does it take to write son, daughter, husband? And they're not always darling or dear are they? TBH. My personal bug bears are LOL, IMHO and, most of all, worst of all. AF! Just say period for god's sake! What are we, floral apron wearing, valium munchers, living in middle america in the 1950's?

while were at it, as i have never been pregnant what does the 22 + 3 mean in pregnancy conversations mean?

WanderingTrolley · 14/04/2008 11:49

Ah, P&L is right about some not being acronyms, but I always thing YANBU is pronounced Yanboo! very crossly and YABU is pronounced Yarrrboooooo in incredulity.

For a brief time, rofl became roffle. What happened to that? One would post "I am roffling, I really roffled."

VictorianSqualor · 14/04/2008 11:49

TBF, I don't think I've ever seen BD come up on MN, it's just there.

Sorry, that should say...
To be fair, I don't think I've ever seen baby dancing come up on mumsnet it's just there.

Nope sorry, took too long, back to the acronyms for me.

peanutbear · 14/04/2008 11:49

BD makes me laugh I was once told it stood for baby dancing but apparently on here it means bed down!!!

VictorianSqualor · 14/04/2008 11:49

hifi, it's the number of weeks and days pregnant.

WanderingTrolley · 14/04/2008 11:50

22 weeks and 3 days, hifi

peanutbear · 14/04/2008 11:50

obviously changing a nappy before pressing post means 100 have said it already

Oblomov · 14/04/2008 11:54

Are you new ? I hope so, because clearly you just don't get all this, do you ?
Acronyms are the best thing EVER.

OverMyDeadBody · 14/04/2008 12:03

WD I still use roffle, and have seen it lots here, so it hasn't died out yet!

Acronyms are part of internet forums, if you use them you need to embrace acronyms tbh.

I do agree that AF and BD are silly and imature though, but thankfully they aren't used very often on MN are they!

BucketandSpade · 14/04/2008 12:05

What's to get? Obiomov?

And what does YANBU even mean?

I get that it's faster to type DH, DD etc...it just....I find it all a bit cutesy and ditsy and inane. Hate is too strong a word, obviously. And yes, extra word in title a mistake.

PortAndLemon · 14/04/2008 12:07

Of course, 22+3 is only used by first-time mothers. Second-time mothers are "around 22 weeks" and I suspect after that you get to "umm... five months or so, probably".

KelaS · 14/04/2008 12:07

YANBU = you are not being unreasonable (I take it y9ou can work out YABU from that!)

MehgaLegs · 14/04/2008 12:08

Well, you're not going to change anything. We are not all going to stop using acronyms because you don't like them.

What is it with these sort of posts? Peolpe join MN and then start slagging it off.

You Are Being Unreasonable (YABU)

VictorianSqualor · 14/04/2008 12:09

PAL, 40+6 dear, 40+6, no way am I 'around nine months'

hifi · 14/04/2008 12:09

ahh, get it.thanks.

Oblomov · 14/04/2008 12:09

Go to the acronym list, and it may become clear. Top of your screen, maintoolbar, under useful stuff is the acronym list.
When you post alot of mumsnet, it becomes essential.

MinkyBorage · 14/04/2008 12:09

imho yabu lol

VictorianSqualor · 14/04/2008 12:10

Bucketandspade, please don't use 'etc'.

WanderingTrolley · 14/04/2008 12:11

CHrist B&S if you think we're inane and cutesy here for fark's sake don't go to netmums, you could be killed by tickercide.

lilolilmanchester · 14/04/2008 12:11

I found it odd when I first joined, but I soon got used to it. It's part of the MN culture and we all have a choice whether we want to be part of it or not. I don't think you can wade into an existing culture and expect to change something which is really trivial compared to the huge benefits this site brings. IMHO....

Oblomov · 14/04/2008 12:11

Maybe Mumsnet is just not for you.
Or maybe it just is going to take you a bit more time to get used to it. It was a mystery to me to begin with.
Now we are all addicted.

MinkyBorage · 14/04/2008 12:11

but BAS, D doesn't have do stand for Darling, I often meand dickhead when talking about dh

BucketandSpade · 14/04/2008 12:12

I'm not slagging it off Mehgalegs. And I know it's not going to change. Just thought I'd see what other people thought. It's really no big deal. There are plenty of throw a way, put it out there posts on here aren't there? You seem a bit defensive to me.

OP posts:
SheikYerbouti · 14/04/2008 12:13

Agree that BD and AF should be outlawed by the EU

But as for the rest of it, YABU

esp for somemone like me who can't typoe for shit

VictorianSqualor · 14/04/2008 12:14

'can't typoe for shit'

Love it sheiky!
