Kids want Halloween over AI holiday in turkey

My two children age 14 and 12 would prefer Halloween in the uk over an all inclusive holiday in Turkey with onsite waterparks. Am I being unreasonable to be upset about this and think my children are brats?

Will the hotel be doing something Halloweeny ?
At that age they do as they are told
Missing a weeks holiday for one day ...well Evening is batty 🦇

Why don't you compromise and go for a short break somewhere sunny 26-30 Oct, but be back so they can go trick or treating?

Temperatures in south Turkey are ok then, but unless you have heated pools they are fricking freezing and you won't be able to use them!

Have you read the thread? One child is autistic and the op has a back history of posting about her abusive partner. These poor kids don’t want to be stuck with him in the UK never mind a road where they can’t get away from him at all.

OK, so Halloween is on a Thursday this year. I'd be tempted to fly out Friday and return morning of Halloween. Love Holidays is very easy to do different dates etc.

Not bratty behaviour. Fair preference. Go a different time of year. February in Dubai instead?

Can you get a family member to stay and go on a mini break with your partner instead? You could still go to Turkey if you wanted then!

Aww. My DC would get all dressed up and go out with friends at that age... The following year they felt too old. Enjoy the dressing up and pumpkin carving whilst you can!

Halloween is probably my favourite holiday - I have honestly such wonderful childhood memories of Halloween parties with my school friends going out trick or treating and a few early at home fireworks. The crisp autumn days and evenings .. it’s my favourite time of year.

Aww, my now 15 year old daughter used to be mad keen on Halloween! Embrace the enthusiasm for life while it lasts Grin

Surprised some people expect Turkey to be cold and miserable in October. I’ve been to Turkey once- in October- and it was definitely swimsuit and sunbathing weather. In fact I stayed in the shade as it was too hot for me. July/August would be far too hot in Turkey for many Brits.

Didn’t the OP mean it would be cold and miserable in the UK and that’s why they would like a break in Turkey?

My mistake. OP didn’t say that. Other posters did 😊

Do they have 2 weeks for half term or just the one - schools vary?

Is there a compromise / eg. you could go for 10 days instead of 14, or 5 instead of 7?

On the other hand, they may find their friends are all going away for half term away anyway.

Ponderingwindow · 31/07/2024 04:26

Halloween is my child’s favorite holiday. I think I could get away with saying we are going to skip Christmas, but not being home for Halloween and going all out for it would be sacrilege.

She is 15 and has already been talking about our preparations for a couple of months now. Our house would be covered in decorations inside and out if I was willing to indulge her.

The problem isn’t Turkey or Halloween or kids that are brats.

Its that Ops boyfriend is an abusive twat.

LaDamaDeElche · 31/07/2024 09:06

How are they being brats? Most kids that age prefer to be with their friends, especially on a fun night like Halloween. Most teenagers I see at hotels look bored and are on their phones while their parents are enjoying the unlimited booze.
